Godzilla 2014 hit the box office this weekend. Fans have been flocking to it in droves and it looks like the film may get near the $100 million mark before the weekend is out! To coincide with the films release, NECA’s Godzilla 2014 figure has hit toy shelves. Their Godzilla 2014 figure measures 12″ from head-to-tail and stands at around 6″ tall. It features over 25 points of articulation. I was able to grab one at a local Toys “R” Us and couldn’t wait to tear it open and snap some pics.

I had been looking forward to this figure since we first saw it. It looked like it was going to be a nice, inexpensive way to get a great looking 2014 Godzilla. I was not disappointed. Immediately, I noticed thatt he sculpted details were fantastic. It looks like a near perfect representation of the movie design. Construction is very solid and doesn’t have that “hollow” feeling that some of NECA’s figure can have. It’s a surprisingly heavy figure and even features a nice weighted tail. This is especially helpful as the design of the new Godzilla has surprisingly small feet, so the third point of contact at the tail is appreciated.
There’s a ton of articulation on this guy. The head can move up and down a bit and swivel from side to side. There’s multiple spots along the torso that can be twisted or bent for upright or hunched over poses. The tail also gets a bunch of joints that hold their poses very well. The shoulders have a ball jointed design, with swivel joint elbows and ball jointed hands. The legs are designed the same way, so it’s possible to hit just about any pose you want. The best part, though, is that the figure has a nice “overlapping” design that hides the joints well without hindering movement. The only real issue I have is that there’s very little “color” to the figure. There’s a slight wash on the underbelly, painted eyes and mouth. Otherwise it’s a very monotone figure. A slight wash would have done wonders, but it’s a minor quibble.
Bottom line is that for under $20, this is a pretty great 2014 Godzilla figure. Nice articulation and great sculpting make it worth owning if you dig the design.
