One of the newest classic video game series figures by NECA is also their one of the first Sega Genesis based figures (Robocop vs Terminator could have been either Genesis or SNES). Overall
The classic video game series continues with an outstanding new release. The Predator 2 figure is a repaint of their Masked City Hunter Predator figure. It comes in a flapped window box featuring the same artwork as the video game it’s based on. This release is one of the first classic game figures to not come wrapped in cellophane, instead featuring a velcro spot to keep the flap closed. This allows customers to check out the figure, without cutting the plastic and/or damaging the package.Once opened, the figure sits on a new tray, which gets rid of the cutout holes for the arms and legs of the previous game releases (yay!).
The roughly 9″ tall figure features a paint scheme similar to the Predator in the Sega Genesis video game. Like many of the recent classic video game releases, the Predator 2 figure has a cel-shaded look to it, giving added depth and dimension to the sculpt. The color scheme is composed of assorted shades of purple and tan, with highlights of bright blues, oranges, and yellows. Some areas have a dark wash over them, causing the sculpted details to pop nicely.
With this being a repaint of the City Hunter Predator, fans should know that the excellent sculpt and articulation hasn’t been altered. This is personally my first go round with the City Hunter, and it is a fun figure to pose and shoot. It feels like it has more articulation than the Jungle Hunter Predator, which is also featured in this shoot. The figure is solid and sturdy, and I only felt the need to use the stand on a couple of occassions. It included a spear and a human skull and spine trophy. The blades on the right arm can extend and retract easily. They’re actually pretty sharp, so take care when handling. Other nice details include the strapped pouch, soft plastic dreads, and a movable shoulder cannon. My personal favorite was being able to store the Smart Disk on the hip.
If you’re into the classic video game line, or are a fan of NECA’s Predator line, then this is a must buy. The colors stand out nicely, it has solid construction and great accessories.
