A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors is considered by many fans to be the best film in the Nightmare franchise. The film corrected course for the franchise after the poorly received Freddy’s Revenge. The movie took Freddy off of Elm Street and hand him tormenting the teen children of his murderers at a hospital. The fresh setting, the return of Heather Langenkamp’s Nancy and a surprising amount of dark of humor made the film an instant horror classic.
NECA continues to celebrate the franchise with a new retro Mego style figure. The Dream Warriors Freddy Krueger 8″ Scale Figure is scheduled to begin hitting stores around October 20th. NECA was kind enough to offer Toyark a first look at the figure. We have a full high resolution gallery and review. Read on to check it out.

Overall
Like all of the retro Mego style figures from NECA, the figure comes packaged in a resealable clamshell backer. The card features are by Jason Edmiston. Freddy includes a cloth outfit, a removable hat and a Chest of Souls attachment. A few twist ties hold the figure in place.
With Dream Warriors, New Line gave Freddy a more streamlined burn makeup, which went on to basically become the definitive look for the character. The makeup used here became the basis for Freddy’s look in parts 4, 5 and Freddy’s Dead. I still think the Part 2 Mego Freddy has my favorite head sculpt, more because I love his more demonic appearance in that film. But NECA’s sculptors did a fantastic job at capturing his look here. The sculpt features a sinister smile, showing his smoke covered, rotted teeth. The eyes are painted to look off to the side, giving it a different feel than the previous Freddy releases. The painting on the head sculpt is top notch.
One of the most iconic scenes from Dream Warriors has Freddy reveal the trapped souls of his victims, portrayed as trapped faces on his chest. NECA found a way to include that with this figure by including a removable chest piece. The attachment simply slides over the chest under his sweater. If you compare the sculpt to screen shots of the movie, you can see that it’s amazingly screen accurate. Each haunting face is handled with great care and the paint matches up perfectly to the head sculpt.
There’s really nothing to dislike about this figure. The sweater is a much tighter fit now, making his proportions feel better. The addition of the Chest of Souls and the new head sculpt make this worth owning.
