Late last year, NECA released their Alien Queen Ultra Deluxe Figure. This massive, in-scale figure was a stunning new addition to the Alien line. During San Diego Comic-Con 2015, NECA surprised fans with a retooled version of the Alien Queen. The new version was based on the Red Queen Mother from Aliens: Genocide, a 4-part comic series by Dark Horse Comics. In the comic, the Red Queen Mother is locked in a civil war with a regular Alien Queen, all while a group of humans lead an expedition to harvest the secretions of the Queen Mother, which is an addictive substance for humans. The figure features some newly sculpted pieces, including a new head for the Red Queen. It also includes a stand an a cool backdrop diorama print.

Overall
The Red Queen Mother comes packaged in a large window box. The figure sits in a plastic tray with a few twist ties holding it in place. A large printed diorama backdrop is included, featuring painted artwork based on the alien world from the comic series. It includes the figure, two swappable inner jaws, back attachment pieces and a figure stand. The figure can be easily put back in the tray for display or for storage.
The Red Queen Mother stands at over 30″ long from head-to-tail and has over 30 points of articulation. When standing straight up, it’s easily over 15″ tall. The tail is bendable, allowing you to use it for stability while posing, however, you can use the included figure stand. That stand includes two poles, allowign for it to be placed at different heights to stand the Queen up and dynamically pose. The new tooling includes a newly designed head crest and mouth. The new design features white tendrils that stick off of the head and lower jaw. The figure is painted red with white highlights, some black detailing and also features a wash over it to bring out the detailed sculpting. The paint is handled very well throughout. The paint is clean with little to no bleed or cracking. The use of white is the stand out here, as it helps the red to pop even more and really separates it from the original Alien Queen figure.
The joints on the figure are very tight, but never felt paint locked. Like the original Alien Queen release, the figure has a staggering amount of articulation. Arms feature movement at the shoulders, two articulated elbow points and an articulated wrist. The head and neck features multiple points of movement as well. The legs can be posed in a number of ways, allowing it to stand quite large over the figures. The back attachments can swivel and bend for additional display options. The tight joints, along with the bendable tail allowed me to get most of the poses I wanted to without propping it up. So, I rarely used the figure stand while shooting.
The Red Queen Mother is an excellent release. I ran into no quality control issues while reviewing or posing the figure. No paint cracking, no locked joints, no broken pieces. The Red queen adds some great color diversity to the Aliens line, while pulling from the expanded universe of Aliens. Fans of the line, who have the room, should definitely pick this up.
