NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles “The Capture of Splinter” Set – Toyark Photo Shoot

Today we have another long overdue photo gallery that we’re finally able to share. At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, NECA had an exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Movie “The Capture of Splinter” 7″ Scale Figure Set. The 4-pack included 7″ scale versions of Shredder, two Foot Soldiers and Splinter. Along with the figures, a number of interchangeable parts, weapons, and other accessories were included. The great news is, that these figures are going to see a general release as GameStop Exclusives!

Pros

• Outstanding overall set
• Excellent scaled down versions of Shredder and the Foot Soldiers
• Splinter is a welcome addition to the line
• Great sculpts on all the figures
• Very strong paint applications
• Plenty of weapons and a weapon rack included
• Lots of interchangeable hands for Shredder and the Foot Soldiers
• Includes a great diorama back drop

• I do wish the cardboard box were sturdier

Overall
The highly anticipated set comes packaged in a specialized slip cover window box. The outer slip cover features a design based on the Foot Clan outfit. Inside, you get a window box that showcases the included figures, as well as photos of many of the included items on the back. The figures, weapon rack, weapons, and interchangeable hands sit in a plastic clamshell tray.

Splinter makes his NECA debut with this set. Unlike all prior 7″ TMNT movie releases, Splinter does not have a 1/4 scale counterpart. Splinter features sculpted fur, and a fabric cloak. The cloak is torn and tattered, just as it should be. The figure looks quite accurate to the movie Splinter, missing only the messy hair and wiry whiskers. The paint application here is crisp and clean, with a bit of a paint wash over the fur to add some depth. The figure includes shackles around his forearms, which can open to be removed. Splinter is fully articulated as well, with a wired tail for some extra stability.

With this set, you get scaled down versions of Shredder and two of the Foot Soldiers. We’ve seen these figures as excellent 1/4 scale versions. The 7″ scale versions feature sculpts that rival their larger counterparts, as well as retaining most of the articulation. Each has double jointed knees and elbows, which allow for more dynamic posing. Joints are strong without feeling too tight, and I didn’t run into paint locking issues. Shredder includes a fantastic removable cape that has a lot of body to it, with just a bit of edge wiring which helps with posing. Shredder also includes a number of interchangeable hands that include fists, open palm, and weapon grip hands. Similar hands are included with the foot soldiers as well. With the foot soldiers, you get a huge assortment of weapons to choose from. Those include a sword, an axe, nunchucks, sais, bo staff and more. These weapons will be split between Foot Soldiers for the general release, which will a lot of display options for troop builders.

The included weapons rack is a nice bonus. It’s a fairly large plastic rack, that can hold every one of the included weapons easily. The rack is all black, with a clean matte finish to it. Also included is a small cardboard box for Splinter to stand on as he’s shackled to the fence. The box looks great, but it’s a very thing cardboard and isn’t very sturdy.

In the end, this is a stellar exclusive set, made all the better knowing fans will be able to pick them up outside the con. There four fantastic figures, and an amazing combination of display options. The figures look perfect with the Turtles, and GameStop is going to be hard pressed to keep this wave in stock long.
