Hey there were the black people who were just colored to make look like they had black skin but looked, dressed and acted like their white counterparts.
The most racist were the asians at the time. Have you seen the Mandarin? And his flunkies? |

Ok, so this isn't just me showing off each cover and thats it I am going to tell you a bit about each issue.
First up is Captain Savage and his Battlefield Raiders 10 "To The Last Man" Written by Gary Friedrich, Pencils Dick Ayers, Inker John Severin The Leatherneck Raiders are in the South Pacific training on an island in the middle of nowhere when a "Nip Fleet" appears and starts to bomb the island. Captain Savage tells his "gyrines" they need to get back to the base and report in. It looks like an invasion and they needed to get off an alert. During the bombings a tree is knocked over onto Little Bear knocking him out and pinning him to the ground. Savage wanted to leave him behind but Sarge convinced him to lift the tree and then he would carry the 300 pound "rasslin injun" back to base. The rest of the group heads out and starts the defense. The Sarge carries his man but a bomb goes off looking as if he was killed. After a while troops land and the forces are engaged by invaders. Savage was given command command of most of the troops and he did his best to hold the line. Wave after wave came and during the fight there were a lot of punches thrown (why?) but it could not stop the invading "nips". Just as it seemed helpless Sarge, Little Bear and a wave of fresh troops came in from behind killing most (off panel) and capturing the rest. It turned out that this attack was a feint to go after another target. Command figured it out, repulsed the attack and parachuted fresh troops in. The issue had a teaser that #11 would have a death and a meeting of Sargent Fury and his Howling Commandos. Issue 16 "War is Hell...On Ice" Writer Arnold Drake, Pencils Don Heck, Inker John Severin The squad are roaring down the hill on skis, behind them are Japanese. Savage quickly sizes up the situation. He tells his troops to to go left and he will head left. The enemy recognizes the ploy and they follow. Savage looks back and sees that he was being followed he quickly grabbed a grenade and throws it into snow bank causing an avalanche trapping all but the leader. Savage put on the speed but trips as the enemy Lt comes forward and holds up a sword to his throat and say , "I would surrender if I were you Captain." Flash to a lounge and it has a white man holding a pool cue saying the same line. It turns out that the Japanese troops were just ski instructors in disguise having an exercise to just get the Leatherneck Raiders training. They are headed to the Aleutian Islands. When they get there they find a small igloo with a large "piece of tin foil". It turns out it is a radar dish that is part of a new English invention. They blab about it's importance and enter the igloo to find out it is a full blown super-villain base. Or what would be there. Somehow, without leaving any evidence, they build this vast underground base with large elevators multi-floor and 1200 personnel. The squad is there to kill, ummm stop anyone who lands. Pilots from hidden airfields ( I know the army engineer corp is good but this...) fly over and see a sub in the water. Quickly the destroy it and after a while they find out it was a huge balloon (what?) that let the other sub come in and drop troops. Afraid that this is going to be a base for bombers to stop off on their way over to the US (It is the route they would take). So Captain Savage takes his people out to check it out and one of them is injured by a "nip" and they head back to get him help. They come to an igloo owned by an Eskimo named Chaka. He has proclaimed himself "neutral" but helps bandage Yates. He then shows them how to get to the base. On the way out they find out he likes to sculpt and carve figures on idols. Outside his home is a carved totem pole that an "archaeologist" had come there dug around the area with a bulldozer and build the totem pole (how the hell?) While they were gone the Japanese came by wrecked the place except for the totme pole. Chaka does admit that a Japanese man put it up. They figure out it is a sign to where the "professor" had hidden fuel. The group set out to find them with Chaka coming along to get revenge for his destroyed carving, furniture and traps. Chaka uses his dog sled to transport Savage when they cross over a glacier a crack appears. Chaka is trapped but Savage uses his real strong back to leaver open the crack so Chaka makes it out. He is injured so Savage drives the sled and finds his people in a a firefight near a volcano. During the battle Chaka heads over near the Japs and gets hit but he is close enough to through a grenade into the volcano blowing it up, the "nips" up and the fuel. I think if he wanted to he could have remade the statues and traps but hey thats the way he was. It ends with Little Bear saying something nice. |

Ok because I didn't do this the first time when I listed them it is time for the plots of FF 90 &92
FF 90 "The Skrull Takes a Slave" Writer Stan (the Man) Lee, Artist Jack (King) Kirby, Embellishment Joltin' Joe Sinnott It starts out a long and stormy night, the people were gathered in the study discussing the body, no wait that is my tv show. Ok for some reason The Mole Man has given a house to the FF and it tried to kill them. They have him tied up in a closet while Ben wanders the house smashing things. Johnny convinces him not to so Ben decides to go brutalize the prisoner until he gives up the secrets. Reed and Sue come and convince him not to and Ben because he is worried something might happen rips off the ropes to hold the villain in his hand. This freakish creatures jumps off of the Things hand and wanders a round for a moment finds a hidden elevator and returns to "Subterania". When Thing asks Reed why he would do that Mr Fantastic replies that it is illegal to park some place and you can go to jail for it but trying to conquer the world is not a crime so he let the freakish creature get away. (Seriously) Ben gets pissed and leaves (who can blame him) so Reed calls Alicia on the viso-phone and tells her to watch for rock head. He and Sue ooo and ahhh over the baby , who has no name yet, and they say cute things back and forth. Then the house rumbles and Johnny, Crystal, Reed and Sue runs outside just in time for the house to be destroyed. Then they head back to the city. In the city the Thing is mobbed by fans when a skrull appears disguised as Reed. It landed on the planet explained how it can shrink items and hide things. Becomes and old man and heads to NYC, there it observes a guy park his sports car, convertible, and then somehow copies the key from a distance takes the mans shape and drives around town. As Reed he gets Ben to follow and they end up at the outskirts of town where the Skrull has disguised his ship as a rock. He changes shape, blasts the Thing and off they go into space. I swear that is what I read. Ok FF 92 "Ben Grimm Killer" Writer Stan Lee, Artist jack Kirby and Embellishment Joe Sinnot Ok I don't have issue 91 so there is a little bit confusion of what happened but here we go. Ben Grimm is captured in some kind of space prison. The guards are gangsters from the twenties and thirties. They talk like Edward G. Robinson, see? The go to remove the collar, which looks like stocks, from around the Things neck and he tries to attack them but the "hypno-glow" stuns him. Torgo the robot warrior makes a couple snide comments and the Thing is dragged out to get ready. He does various fights (thought the hypno glow kept him docile?) and gets annoyed suddenly they are afraid and fire a brain blast gun at him. they then put him under a comsic piledriver which can crack apart planets. the Thing ate his wheaties that morning and destroys the machine but they point the blast gun and him and he goes friendly like. Meanwhile Johnny searches the city for Grimm but doesn't find him. For some reason Mr Fantastic has surmised that the Skrulls have captured ole rock head. Not sure how that happened as the clue, if there was one, is in 91. Reed tinkers with the Skrull craft to make it go. One the starnge alien planet that looks like New York did back in the roaring twenties gang bosses make plan to have their slaves fight. Who ever wins can take the territory of the loser (sounds bloodless). So Lippy Louie puts a bomb in Boss Barker's place but it misses its target. The gangs are gathered and the slaves get set up. The Thing says that when the action starts he is going to take off. Torgo tells him that if he doesn't fight the Gang leaders will destroy earth. At this time Reed tells Sue that he, Johnny and Crystal are going in space and She has to stay because little anonymous Richards needs a mommy in case the Genius dies in space. Boo Hoo. As the slaves get to the arena Lippy Louie tells his guys to watch the slaves and if they resist use the sonic disrupter to blow the planet up. What???? Sonic weapons in a vacuum? Maybe they should take a look at a physics book. Sorry for the aside. Primitoid and Cat person fights. Cat person says touch that weapon and die. Primitoid says the weapon is made for him. Since this is a battle to the death I would pick up the weapon anyway just to be safe. And then it says, the conclussion nest issue. Which I will order next week to share. But I don't see what part made him a killer like it said. False advertising. Oh yeah, saw an add for a show called Cattanooga Cats, no really. They have youtube vidoes of it. I wonder what they were taking. |

Alright it's Avengers time.
Avengers 61 "Some Say the World Will End in Fire...Some Say in Ice" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist John Buscema, Inker George Klien Ok it starts like this Black Panther and Hank Pym have made a device to charge the Vision's Solar Jewel quicker than normal. While it's happening Hawkeye watches when all of a sudden Black Panther sees a ghostly shape. It is Dr Strange in his new super hero duds (why?) floating in his astral form. Doc needs there help to stop the end of the world. Apparently some guy called Marduk from the Sons of Tibborro sent Doc and Black Knight to a crypt where he has hidden a magic item. It looks to me if Marduk likes wearing red footsie pjs with a hood, (what they hell?) and he gets his Crystal of Doom and he blasts Doc with an mystic bolt but Black Knight jumps in the way and is felled Strange uses his magic to subdue Marduk and gets the Avengers. When they arrive they find Black Knight laying on the ground. Panther and Hawkeye convince Doc to bring the fallen man back to the mansion to help him. (Vision was woozy so he stayed behind) When they get to the mansion they put Black Knight onto a med table and Doctor (he was a Doctor once) Strange use his wounded hands to fix the poor man. The rejuvi-ray (No I am not making it up) to finish the job. Vision comes in and says a giant of fire has appeared in the Antarctica. Black Panther gets a call from Wakanda saying a giant of ice has appeared there. Deciding they need to take care of it the four decides to help out. But just then Dane Whitman (Black Knight) comes in an says he will help out (boy he heals quick, death's door to super heroing quickly). They agree. Doc Strange will try to control the Wand while Vision and Black Panther go to Wakanda and Black Knight and Hawkeye will take BK's special plane that can hold his flying horse to the Antartica (where is he going to land it?). The two groups get there and The polar group find out they are fighting Surtur of Thor fame and because they have no real powers they are quickly out classed but somehow survive. The others get to Wakanda and realize that their target is Ymir. Apparently quinjets are cheap because the Panther flies it into the ice giant but nada, vip, nothing. They fight hard doing little better than the other pair. Doctor Strange manages to master the Wand and uses it to transpose both group to one spot and bamm the two giants destroy each other, or at least banish each other. The two groups of heroes are happy but don't know where they are. (Not to blow it but you find out in issue 62 they are at Mount Kilimanjaro and get a ride to Black Panther homeland.) |

They put the mask to make him more super-hero like, the sales were down. Didn't help much a few months later he was gone until the mid 70's.
I am glad you like the review. It is better than showing just pics. |

Ok next up is Sub-Mariner 19
"Support your Local Sting-Ray" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Marie Severin, Inker Johnny Craig Namor wakes up on a beach not knowing how he got there but surrounded by people at first he is cool until some cops show up and it get's tense he decided he needs to leave but some clowns in a beach tower throw rescue rings at him trying to trap him. The Sub-Mariner gets pissed and knocks down the tower while the cops shoot at him. As he tries to leave he discovers he can't fly so he leaps into the ocean. When he get's there he finds out he can no long breathe. He does a flash back (I assume last issue) and remembers an alien did something to him and he is not sure what. As he swims away he runs into this character called Sting-ray who tries to stop him. Combat ensues and Sting-Ray knocks out Namor. When the Prince of Atlantis wakes he discover that Sting-Ray is Walter Newell someone he thought and ally. The government wants to experiment on Namor but Newell does his best to prevent it. When a clumsy worker spills water on the Atlantean he regains strength and goes wild. He fights his way out with Sting-Ray behind him and they fight around the water in New York. Sting-Ray while trying to get the Sub-Mariner damages and Namor swims over rips up a pipe coming into the water and props upthe weak spot. There vows Sting-Ray not to help the chase on Sub-Mariner and calls him friend, they part on good terms. Overall I liked the book and I really didn't have any of my scratch the head thoughtd except wondering how strong the pipe was. I did forget to tell how triton was with warrior on the alien planet and thought he should look for the monarch but it was so small so I figure it did really matter. If you can get a copy of this book do so. If it really is how the book was written in the long run when I get all of the 239 or at least a good portion this title will be worth picking up. Cover |

Everybody Loves the Hulk right? well I have a little tale or two to spin.
Incredible Hulk 115 "Lo,The Leader Lives" Writer Stan Lee, Penciller Herb Trimpe, Inker Dan Adkins Ha, the vicious army has captured the brave Hulk. They have used foul neutralizer to lay him lo. They strap him down and they take him to the army base to figure out what to do with him. Then the Leader appears offering to help. I know what you are think "He is a criminal and has bad things, they would never take his help." Well nope, the Leader says "You thought I was dead so all my crimes don't count anymore." Well apparently General Ross and Major Talbot are dumb as shit and agree. The Leader goes off to a lab to fix up a means to imprison the jade giant. During the wait the Hulk wakes up and breaks the first neuralizer but a second puts him do. He is then taken to a room that looks like it is made of orange jello. He is inserted into in and Betty, Ross and Talbot go to the control room where the Leader tells them to leave and he is in charge now and there is nothing they can do. The Hulk then wakes up destroys the gurney but cannot escape. More when I get 116 Incredible Hulk 120 "On the side of...The Evil Inhumans" writer Roy Thomas, art Herb Trimpe For some reason Hulk is in the country of Costa Salvo on the side of Maximus the Mad and his followers. The US army is there to fight against them and Maximus is worried about them so he sends the Hulk to destroy the military. Betty is there and whines about Bruce the entire time while Ross plays abusive father. Hulk crushes the army and Maximus plots against them. He threatens the jade giant and calls out a large robot to fight the hulk. He beats on the Hulk and weakens him but he won't give up and gets so mad he lifts up a huge building with his bare hands (WHAT?????? THE?????? F......??????) and crushes the robot. The inhumans flee and the army threatens the Hulk. They didn't realize that he fought to destroy the but not kill. They missed his niceness and brings it. JUst as they are about to throw down the Inhuman's space ship flees and the Hulk leaves while Betty whines about Bruce. |

Ok everyone I know what you all have what you have been waiting for MORE AVENGERS!!!!!!
Ok it's issue 67 part two of a three issue arc. I will fill you in on 66. Avengers go to SHIELD helicarrier to find out information about the wondrous metal know as adamantium. They the vision runs away goes introspective and then steals it. He brings it to Ultron who becomes Ultron 6 and attacks the Avengers. Unto 67 "We Stand at ... Armageddon" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Barry Smith, Inker George Klein It all starts with an explosion (and what a great way to start) and people are looking at Avengers mansion. Inside the Avengers are fighting Ultron 6 who is now stuck to a console of some sort with shift leavers on the side (why?) he has Adamantium on him and Thor slams into him getting knocked back. The Vision stands on the side realizing that he was controled by Ultron to steal the head, the metal and the molculizer reconfigure a thingy. He then rebuilt the dread machine who is doing the bad guy thing. Ultron starts top beat down the Avengers and one by one they go down. The crazed robot then flees with Pym holding onto the bottom. He though Jan was in danger so he climbed on the botttow to make Ultron fly funny (why?) and the robot flies through the roof knocking Hank free Goliath ctahces him and everything looks good. The Vision follows after his fleeing creator. He finds out Ultron is making a bomb to blow up the city with his "atomic piles" (too much 5 alarm chili?) and attacks him. Ultron beats him back and flies off. SHIELD shows up and not knowing the Vision is better attack him damaging badly. The Avengers show up to the base and both groups are unaware of the bomb. Just as the group surprises the crazed machine Yellowjacket sees that it has to flip "one more switch to wipe a city off the face of a map." Ok in 68, Viz gets up destroys the machine and Ultron flees. The Avengers find out Vision is a good guy but badly wounded. They decide to fake they doctor that made the metal is making an appearance at the UN. When Ultron shows up he fights the team and grabs the doctor. He scans his mind and finds out it is Pym and is destroyed. Pym had planted a hypnotic suggestion in his own mind (Wish I could do that to stay on my diet) one phrase over and over "thou shall do kill" and bamm it was over. No I didn't write them but like them, but sometimes you have to wonder. |

OK Patriotic time. Captain America 113
"The Strange Death of Captain America" Writer Stan Lee, Artist Steranko, Inker Palmer (neither has first names mentioned) It starts with a tv reporter down by the docks. They have found a suit of Captain America gear there with a Steve Rogers mask nearby. It turns out that Cap is not Steve and Hydra is to blame/take credit for? Madame Hydra reveals that she is from eastern Europe and lived a hard life after her parents die and her face is scarred. SHe then comes on Baron Strucker and he brings her into Hydra. When she dies, she kills the command staff and assumes command. Proud of what she does she has a solemn ceremony and burns Caps dossier. Cut to Avengers mansion. Rick comes in tearful, Thor asks him to debrief the team but he can't. The Visions says the Rick must be overcome with grief. They head to a funeral parlor to hold a service for the fallen hero using a dummy as a stand in. Halfway through it Fury finds a card that when moved triggers a gas trap than knocks the SHIELD people and Avengers out (Isn't the Vision and android?) and they are taken prisoner by Hydra. Madame Hydra has decided to kill them off as a final judgment. Rick sensing something wrong heads to the funeral parlor and finds that the victims are being hauled away in boxes. he hides in a truck and follows them. Meanwhile a man stands on the corner watching. When Jones gets to the graveyard he sneaks around and sees that Hydra is digging holes to bury the heroes (How will that stop Thor?) and decides to get help when he gets caught by a good. He tries to get away but then comes a voice! Cap is not dead. He fights his way to Rick, tells the boy to grab a gun and run. When the two get close enough he tells Jones to shoot the tank and blow up the motorcycle killing many Hydra soldiers. Madame Hydra sees them and has he troops fire on Cap to kill him and he defeats them. Sensing she has lost and it is her fault she resigns to die, and take Cap and Jones with her. She fires heat seeking missiles she just happened to have laying about. Cap and Rick duck into a grave and the missiles hit a monument and blow up killing Madame Hydra (for now). Once it is over Cap tells Rick he set it up so he could get back his secret id, everything didn't matter like the assault on his friend, the destruction of property and the deaths of many people. Good thing he freed the Avengers before he he left, no wait he didn't. Hope they dig themselves out. |

Ok, onto the next
Daredevil 48 "Farewell to Foggy" writer Stan Lee, artist Gene Colan, inker George Klien Daredevil is out and about and it seems to be safe on the streets and he is upset. I guess he likes crime so he patrols until he finds some hoods. Spying on them because he is a stalker, he overhears one goon tell the others he is sick of Foggy Nelson and his campaign to be DA. They seem to be afraid of his winning so good one hires the evil Stilt Man (nope he is real) to grease Foggy. DD jumps in and before he can question them more a fight breaks out and two goons get into a car and start to drive off. DD's super hearing is so great that over the roar of the engine and in the car he can hear what is going on but he must stand still. Just as the car is about to hit him he drops low and over it goes. Finding out the next night Stilt Man will strike and the Nelson and Murdock offices DD goes there the next day. Karen Page has com\e back and he is smitten. He loves her dearly like all super folk had the untouchable girl friend back then. Knowing he has to get Foggy out of the office Matt spouts off saying he needs the office that night. Foggy gets mad and leaves taking his wife and Karen with him. Matt sits alone not realizing that he could have said daredevil was doing a sting. He changes and waits for the vicious felon who breaks his way in. DD was waiting for him and combat ensues. Stilt-man uses his super stilts to almost kill DD but our hero uses his billy club to save his life. They battle outside the office in the street and DD devices a way to use his club like a whip to injure a man in metal armor. While he hovers somehow in the air, or for 5 panels, he snaps the cord making it slam into Stilt Man knocking him over. The police show up and Stilt-Man ducks into a building that sells perfume and he gets away from DD and the Police who could not see a man standing seven feet + and in blue armor sneak away. the next day Foggy wins but doesn't find out about the battle. He then makes a nasty remark about Matt who storms out of a press conference, all seems to suck for him. |

Ok the first of four Daredevils in a row.
Daredevil 56 "...and Death came Riding" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Gene Colan, Inker Syd Shores Ok it starts with DD swinging and singing. He is happy because after finishing up with Star Saxon and Mr Fear he is ready to see Karen Page. He zips through the city and ends up at Foggy's office. He swings into the room and there are all theses groovy hip kids there and they swarm ole Hornhead. Foggy hears a noise and rushes in to get DD away from the kids and they enter the secret sanctum, well Foggy's office and it is then revealed that Karen is not there. DD asks about where and Foggy says "Say--I thought the quiz shows were all on tv." (wow that kind of writing back then is amazing). A quick search of her employment file her dad is a scientist who invented the cobalt bomb. He refused to give the secret up even with Congress putting on the pressure. Foggy wonders if he could use a patent lawyer and it is revealed the man retired to Vermont. Cut to Karen, she is on a train and has a flashback to a man called Starr Saxon. She is captured and she relives DD coming to save him. She then thinks of the newspaper with the headline Matt is dead. She feels there is a connection. She gets off the stop at Fagan's Corners and it feels a bit sinister. No one seems to recognize her and after searching she gets someone to drive her to her family estate but he drops her off about a mile away. As she walks she starts to cross the old wooden bridge when she hears the clip clop of horse feet. A ghost like creature on a skeletal horse appears and tells her to go away it calls itself Death's Head. Karen ignores it and heads to the house. When she gets there a new butler named Garth greets her. She is taken to her mother who tells her that her father was kidnapped and told not to tell or else he would be killed. Meanwhile Daredevil rides the top of a train thinking about the blonde haired beauty. He is harassed by Death's Head but he makes it to the house. He reveals himself (no he keeps his pants on) and Karen is glad he is there. She tells her problem to him and he decides to help. He goes outside and Death's Head threatens him from a tree branch. DD goes to kick him and finds out that it is a costume balloon. Using all the agility and skill he has follows to the ground. The real Death's Head attacks blasting shafts flame at him, The evil creature uses bolos to knock him out. The criminal ties him up and dresses him in an outfit. He then send Daredevil on his horse at police that have shown up. They get afraid and shoot at him at what looks like his chest. Ok that is that for now. I will do the others later |

Ok these three books I am not going to give a synopsis on. The first two are Chili 2 and 8 and they were about as good as I imgained they would be. The last is Kid Colt Outlaw 140. It is not as bad as I thought it would be and the condition is nice but not a series I need many more of.

I have a few minutes before I go to bed that I will review Daredevil 57
"In the Midst of Life" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Gene Colan, Inker Syd Shores Ok last time we saw our here he was on a skeletal horse being shot in the chest but now they are breezing by his head. It turns out in the breif seconds DD was out his jaw was wired shut so he can't tell the police who he is. The skeleton horse jumps the car and runs off. It seems to be flying in the air over the ground. The cops follow and one takes a shot out the window and hits one of those small ropes to free DD who then jumps off the horse. He falls on his other shoulders and the cops catch up and take off the mask which allows DD to speak and then he gets them to take him back to the Page place. Speaking of the Page Place Foggy calls who wants her to come back this guy named Willie Lincoln (who looks like a black Matt Murdock) who has found out about some gang stuff. He browbeats her to come back and as she hangs up the phone DD shows up. He tells her what happened but reveals the horse, which in the art was flying, was just a regular one with special paint to make the bones show. Well if you think about it thats not realy a plain ole horse. He implies that Mr Page my be dead and Karen thinks the same thing. As they talk DD uses his super senses and notices that someone is in the room and it is Garth the butler who gets flustered when DD exposes him then our hero goes to get some shut eye while Karen follows Garth down to the bridge. The wily man goes into the old mill and she follows doggedly. Inside she finds a technological base (read super villain). Getting suspicious she grabs a handy piece of rotting food and moves forward. Garth realizes that she is there grabs a gun and shoots the board. Just then Horn Head swings in (not sure how he got past the other two) and whacks Garth knocking him out. Death's Head shows up. The villain spouts off how he is going to kill DD and reveals that the poor horse, who did nothing wrong, has died from the chemicals and then makes a ball of blue fire appear in his hand. DD uses his club to lasso DH hand and knocks the fireball away. Death's Head taunts DD and says "A pity it shall gain you nothing -- but a traitor's death." DD figure it out jumps the guy again and reveals that DH is really Karen's father. They struggle over a big cauldron of boiling chemicals and DD falls to the floor. It breaks free and the vat starts to pour DD and Karen. Death's Head jumps off the railing and knocks the pair out of the way while the chemicals fall on Paxton Page and kills him. It turns out Paxton was making new weapons and Garth was a Fed sent to watch ouit. Paxton grew crazy thanks to the cobolt radiation and snapped. The next day they bury Paxton in the rain. DD confronts Karen but she says she wants to be alon. He tells her to take off his mask and when she does she finds out he is Matt Murdock. Until I read 58 and 59. The cover |

Ok it's late but I have time to kill on my Avengers Facebook game so I will do another book. It takes way to long to get energy so I had a chance to read another book
Captain America 110 "No Longer Alone" Writer Stan Lee, Artist Jim Steranko, Inker Joe Sinnot Ok Cap is walking through the street as Steve Rogers and is smoking a pipe when he hears a pounding coming. He looks around trying to figure out what it is and suddenly coming crashing through a wall are two large green hands of the Hulk. He dodges just in time for the army to appear (apparently they mover real quiet with their boots and ionic cannons.) They chase off Rogers, who turns into Cap and attack the Hulk. They use their Ionic Cannon to stun the Hulk and Cap rushes forward to help the misunderstood creature. He catches the site of Rick Jones who warms away the Star Spangled Man with the Plan by saying when the Hulk awakens he will be angry. Jones moves up to the Hulk who awakens and confused knocks Rick over and knocks over a building. Cap jumps in and saves the boy as the Hulk jumps away. Cap takes Rick back to the Avengers mansion, which now looks as if it some groovy swinging bachelor pad and lays him down. When Rick gets up he rifles through closets and find a Bucky uniform that was put there (why? by who? are they trying to torture Cap?) He puts it on and shows Cap who freaks. Rick says look if you don't think I can do it tell me not giving some Hamlet act. Cap changes his mind and accepts the boy to train him. The then hear some kind of pinging which tells them where they are needed to go (I guess Cap would understand a Mother Box if he needed one). They find under the city some Hydra goons. They attack and Cap realizes Rick hasn't been trained and tells him to run away. A Hydra goon in a power vest attacks and we meet Madame Hydra. She tells the goon to kill Cap who uses his shield to break a wall open. Power Vest guy follows. Rick outsmarts the guys following him and doubles back to see power vest come back with Cap's shield claiming he killed the Star Spangled Avenger. Rick freaks and we find out that Cap is in disguise warns Rick but Madam Hydra tells her troops to open fire. During a brief battle Cap breaks open a water main and floods the passsage. the water pulls away the Hydra agents and from what I surmise drowns the green rats. Cap saves Rick from the water while Madame Hydra get's away. the two leave as partners with a bright future ahead. I think they teamed up for 3 or 4 issues. I guess Rick ain't that good. |

Ok its Avengers time. After this issue I need just 71 and I will have all of the Avengers from 1969
Avengers 70 "When Strikes the Squadron Sinister" Writer Roy Thomas (My favorite Avengers writer) Artist Sal Buscema, Inker Sam Grainger Ok Kang the Conqueror is mad, and talking in third person, because this being called The Grandmaster is making him wait. The Grandmaster offered Kang power and he wants it. So he sets a couple of his troops nearby in the ceiling (why?) to shoot the alien. I guess killing the guy is the best way to get him to give you power. The Grandmaster is aware of them and blows them up real good. he then threatens Kang and decided to set off in a contest. If Kang wins he gets power is Grandmaster wins earth dies. The Avengers are on Kang's side which cheeses them off being his enemies and all that. Gathered on the Earth is Captain America, Thor and Goliath while Wasp, Yellow Jacket, Vision and Black Panther waits. The team on the ground are waiting for their last team mate who turns out to be Iron Man. The funny thing is in the issue before, and what would be in their time hours earlier, Tony Stark was on death's door. Donald Blake had to do emergency surgery to save his life or he would croak kind of thing. But here he is all happy and fine (must have been Stan's suggestion) when a group calling themselves the Squadron Sinister shows up. They were given their power by the Grandmaster and were (clones of JLA charcaters) Whizzer, super fast runner (Flash), Dr Spectrum, energy weilding man (Green Lantern), the agile and acrobatic Nighthawk (Batman) and Hyperion last survivor from a dead world with powers beyond mortal men (Superman). They must travel to four places on the globe and fight each other. The Avengers must win. In New York Cap fights Nighthawk over the Statue of Liberty. Nighthawk uses his special plane with magnets on it to lift up the statue to take it away (WTF????) but Cap stops him and it's one win good guys. At the Taj Mahal Iron Man fights Dr Spectrum who has his power prism who talks to him. They battle until Dr Spectrum puts up his "Poly Chromatic Shield" to be safe from repulsors. IM evades and suddenly gets an idea and uses his nifty ultra violet beam on his chest that somehow drains the Prism's power. Thor goes to Egypt and fights Hyperion near the Sphinx using his hammer to shrink Hyperion into a crystal ball as a trap. Goliath is dispatched to England and argues with the Black Knight by Big Ben. Whizzer strikes and knocks over Goliath so Black Knight knocks out the Whizzer. Goliath gets mad and takes away the Knights sword b ut it is too late. Grandmaster is upset and snatches away both groups and taunts the Knight who after everyone is gone vows he will follow somehow. |

Alright going to do a double shot. Daredevil 58 and 59. Just glad to get them out of the way. Not that Daredevil is all that bad but I have no use for him outside of the Facebook Avengers game. And onto the show.
Daredevil 58 "Spin-out on Fifth Avenue" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Gene Colan, Inker Syd Shores Ok our little tale starts with the summation of a trial for a guy who is a mobster. He has done bad things and should be in jail, at least that is what Matt Murdock thinks so it must be so. Flashback a few days earlier and he shows his face to Karen she faints (he must be one ugly sucker). He takes her back to the Page House and tells her that he faked his death and the appearance of his twin brother to find a blackmailer. (but he did not tell her he killed him.) He tells his origin and she is happy, the hug.....awww lovery stuff. He then travels back to New York as Matt and is a hit in the papers. Foggy has a press conference for him and in the middle he anounces Matt is on his team. The blind dude agrees and all are happy. Hell he even asks Karen to marry him pledging to stop being Daredevil (does that even work? I mean how many times...) They are having a big rally and as he gets to tell everyone he quits some loon in a souped up motorcycle comes down the street. This guy is awesome. Somehow he made jets to make it fly and have cool gadgets. He wants to be rich, imagine if he sold it to Harley. But he get beaten falling out of the sky with the bike landing on his chest with what I believe are his dying words he says some man named Crime Wave (lame name) was paying him a grand to cause problems and was going away. Daredevil changes his mind and doesn't give up his costume and Karen walks away. Cut to the end and they won the case and bad guy goes to jail and Karen says nothing to him. Daredevil 59 (the last in the run) "Torpedo will get you if you don't watch out" (friggin long title_ Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Gene Colan, Inker Syd Shores Ok DD is going through town and he stops at a convience store (maybe he needs polish for his white cane, I know that was wrong) and comes upon these two guys robbing it. He beats them up but the owner refuses to press charges. It seems as if this is happening all over the place. The DA is concerned and babbles about it when Matt shows up, Karen ignores him. They hear the tale of Willie Lincoln. Apparently he is a blind cop (no I am not making that up) and he was out looking for clues and came to a club. He could sense it was a bad place and walked to the back. he leaned on a wall and fell down a chute that would be in a fun house down to the lair of Crime Wave. He said he was blind and they tested him with bright lights. He passed so he was let go. he thens goes to Foggy who thinks he can use the testomony of a blind man to catch a crimnal named Crime Wave as an eye witness. WTF???? How the hell? You know Roy Thomas is a good write I think that when he gets a hold of a crappy character like DD his brain went fuzzy. Anyhow they put him in protective custody by putting him a run down hotel which DD will stake out. This guy named Torpedo is hiding in the closet and uses his gas spray to knock out the cops and the witness. (Did I tell you how Willie reminds me of a black Matt Murdock?) DD crashes through the window and they fight. DD is so tough that he can break a 4 by 4 with his feet and a guys head without hurting himself. The bad guy is not phased and shoots his cool pistol thingy. DD jumps out the window he came and Torpedo runs up to the roof. Willie hears the villain monologue and follows. Turns out Torpedo has a razor had like Odd Job and tries to kill dd with it. It cuts through a flagpole and then flies back to Torpedo, but don't worry he has special gloves to catch so he doesn't hurt his hands. DD lands on the edge of the building with his hands and Torpedo stamps on him. Just as our hero is about to fall Willie runs up and tackles Torpedo who falls to his death, Dd saves Willie from certain death. DD then swears that "Judgement Day's A-Comin" for Crime Wave. This is kind of crazy but 3 or 4 villains die in a course of one year. I have read and reviewed a few and Mr Fear, Stuntmaster Death's Head and Torpedo all have died. If you want to live don't fight DD cause it is bad luck. The Covers |

Ok time for some FF
Fantastic Four 93 "At the Mercy of Torgo" By Stan Lee and Jack Kirby , Inker Frank Giacdia Ok The Human Torch, Mr Fantastic and Crystal have gone into space to find the Thing. Johnny and Crystal are not sure but Reed has a plan. Johnny will fly out in space and use his flames to make a ghost image that can be followed. Yes you are reading that right. Kirby and Lee think that the Torch can fly in a vacuum and make flame. You can tell they needed to wrap this one up quick. On the far away planet the Thing has been taken to to fight as an arena slave he watches Cat man trying to killing primitoid. He is then thrown into the ring to fight Torgo. Torgo informs Ben that these skrulls have a device called a sonic dirsupter and they can use it in space, a vacuum, to knock plantes into star. I guess physics has nothing to do with it such as sound, like fire, does not exist in a vacuum because it has no way to burn to travel. Next thing you know some dummy will be putting sonic charges on spaecships and use them on their enemies in an asteroid field. They fight punching each other and at some point a bomb is thrown in there which the Thing grabs and it explodes. he then gripes about it. The arena guys can't decide if it should count as a win so they throw in new weapons. The look like long poles with a large square opening on one side and what looks like a stone box on the other. Torgo uses the opening to grab the Things foot and knock him down and they fight some more. Reed and the gang find the place and find out they are messing with skrulls and get mad. Meanwhile Thing takes his weapon and wraps it around Torgo to crush him. Torgo is a robot dude and he destroys the device turning his on the Thing spraying him with a gas knocking him out. The two slave owners argue over whether or not it counts as Ben didn't know how to use the weapon. At Boss Barkers place, Ben's owner, a man shows up saw he is with the Reed Richards gang he tells the goon there to take him to the arena and they fly off real quick like while Torgo says he will not kill the Thing. The skrull who is dressed like a ganster from the twenties goes to use the device but it is destroyed by a female, turns out that Reed, Johnny and Crystal move so quick that during one fight they showed up on the planet retrieved information, made a plan went to the bad guy's house grabbed his goon and traveled across a large city to save the Thing, Damn I thought Quicksilver was fast. Because the device is destroyed Torgo leads a revolt. The FF flees in a wrap up in a mere 7 panels rushing the plots that twist. |

Sub-Mariner 17
"From the Stars..The Stalker" Writer Roy Thomas, Artists Marie Severin and Jay Hawk, Inker Joe Gaudioso There is an evil priest in Atlantis known as Kormak and he seems to want the throne. Namor knows this and is angry, so angry he smashes an idol placed in the throne room. Kormak comes out and tells Namor he must go on a sacred quest to take the Trident of Atlantis to the Living Flame in the place where Atlantis used to be and dip it there. The High Priest has the right to declare such things so Namor has to do it. He knows it is a trap but he goes anyway. As Namor leaves Kormak tells Lady Dorma if one Prince fall another shall take his place. On his way to the polar cap Namor is so in tuned with the oceans he can sense that all the currents have shifted and are heading in a southerly type of pattern. We then learn that Kormak has allied himself with some aliens to capture Namor. He doesn't know why and when the message screen goes blank they make fun of him. Namor, unaware swims into a trap by the Stalker an alien that looks like a fishman. They fight for a moment and the Stalker uses a weapon to stun, or at least he believes so, Namor who lies in wait to her the villain's plan. When he finds out there are more aliens Namor jumps him and beats him down. Stalker is sucked back into space but Namor avoids the trip. The Stalker, also know as Dynor, leads a people who go to various worlds and rape them of water. They have now come to Earth and talked to Kormak who mistakes his allies for something else not knowing he is dooming the planet. Back in Atlantis the tides are making people nervous and they believe Namor is dead, they have no evidence just wacky water but hell let's declare him dead. Kormak makes to step up when Namor makes it to Polar Atlantis. As he kneels to honor his fallen mother Princess Fen the Stalker attacks. Namor gives him so old fashioned beat down and thinks he kills his foe and he then turns to his task. We find out that the Stalker has two hearts and is still alive he then uses his funnel device to suck Namor off planet. To be continued in Submariner 18. |

Ok its time to see the doctor, Dr Strange that is.
Doctor Strange 176 "O Grave Where is Thy Victory" Writer Roy Thomas, Artist Gene Colan, Inker Tom Palmer Ok it's raining and Doc is out in it. He is off looking for Clea who, unknown to him, has been kidnapped by someone calling himself Asmodeus. First he checks with the cab guy who may have brought bad guys to his place. The man is in a trance. Doc wakes him and asks about what happened. The hack reveals that three guys, one calling himself Wong, wanted to know where he dropped off Clea, he wouldn't tell them and he woke up later with no memory. He also said the guys called themselves "the Sons of the Spanish or something'!" Strange goes across the road and uses his Magic Amulet to open his third eye and discovers three men lurking that call themselves the Sons of Satannish. Now this cross overs with Avengers 61 and I mentioned they look like they are wearing footsies, they are still dressed for bed. They have a brief fight where Doc is impressioned in a mystic cube that he breaks free of only to find the three are gone. He decides to fly to the city where he gets ambushed by magic that turns his magical ball spell into rock. He then plummets to the ground but at the last minute he disperses the spell and he flew off. He then returns home using his new magic painting to see what he can find out. Clea is bewitched and is sent to the Sanctum where she tries to stab Doc. he mystically stops her allowing her to follow what she was sent to do. She takes a book and Strange to a cemetery. She heads to a crypt and Strange leaves his body outside and goes in astrally. The see him and try to trap him. Strange uses his magic to pull his body there. He destroys an crystal wand but he is stunned by a bolt from a second. They gloat because they have his cloak and amulet so now they can complete their spell. Using their newly gotten Book of the Vishanti, Marduk opens a portal to another world...... Until 177 |
