My basic collecting aim is to get some representation of every character I liked as I was growing up, which includes Sonic and Mario.

I'm quite keen to have them in the same scale, which as far as I can work out is either 2" or 5" scale. This means for Sonic that it has to be First4Figures (which also has the bonus of being Mega Drive/Genesis era Sonic), and for Mario, PopCo (or Goldie, the company seems to have changed names several times).

(I'm aware of the Jazzware figures but they don't seem to match the Nintendo figures quite so well.)

Does anyone else collect these figures? If so which scale did you go for - I've got the 5" scale figures, but I find myself umming and arring over whether to downscale - I've not got a lot of space and somehow 2" seems more appropriate as that's roughly how the big characters how big the character would be on a reasonable sized telly!

Then again the sculpts at the larger scale are much better.

Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on the subject? Also, anyone else going mad waiting for the later waves of the Mario figures!? I'm sure I've had Wario on pre-order from BBTS for almost 2 years......

Yeah, I was tempted by the Jazzwares figures as they're posable, but decided against it as they're not in scale with the Nintendo figures.

Having a Robotnik/Eggman figure would be good though.

My wife and I finally got tired of waiting and ordered a Goomba and a Toadsworth (the 5" PopCo figures) on ebay. We'll probably eventually order more. I don't understand why they won't release them here.

I believe the company making them (PopCo) was taken over by Goldie and so resulted in delays - some of the Wave 03 2" figures have actually been released now, so hopefully we will see the 5" stuff soon.

Apparently the quality on the 2" stuff - the paint applications isn't quite so good though.

I don't yet, but I am a HUGE Mario fan and would love to add some figures to my collection, especially of Mario and Luigi. I guess the one thing holding me back is the total lack of articulation present in the Pop Toys versions currently available at retail. Yes, the sculpts and paint are very nice, but it'd be even nicer to get these toys into some nice, classic Nintendo-esque poses if you ask me.

I think it's their cunning way of getting more money out of me at a later date!

Did you ever get any of those Mario Kart 64 figures from back in the day? The figures seemed to be pretty well sculpted and were posable enough to stand up or sit in their karts. They go for a pretty penny on ebay nowadays.

Target had some radio control Mario Kart toys the other day. Nothing I hadn't seen before, but the accessories were amazing.

My brother has the Luigi from that series and yeah, they were pretty awesome! But, like you mentioned, they go for some serious coin on eBay these days and I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on them.

I don't have any yet, but eventually I plan on getting the 2'' ones.

Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, and Metal Sonic in particular.

What would you guys recommend is a good collection of Super Mario figures to collect? Especially Mario, Luigi, Bowser and such.

It seems to me that the PopCo/Goldie/Global Holdings 5" or 2" are your main choices, I would be happy for anyone else to tell me otherwise.

I initially opted for the 5" option, then convinced myself that 2" was much better due to space, went to the shop to buy them, looked at the 5" figures again and decided that the sculpts were that much better that they were definitely the way to go.

I reckon it's inevitable that at some point we will get a line of posable Nintendo characters, (probably not long after PopCo finish their current line!), so from that point of view perhaps the 2" is better as it's cheaper. I see the current lines as fillers until that happens.

Mario and Luigi are available in both size points, Bowser is planned (see Nintendo 2-4" Figure Collector Case with Bowser Figure - Nintendo Figures and Nintendo 5" Classic Figure Series 03 - Set of 5 - Nintendo Figures), but the later figures have been a long long time coming.

These figures (or similar ones) have been available in Japan for a while now and you can probably get most of the figures together if you ebay them. I'm not sure what the deal with Bowser is though, as he seems a bit small, which hopefully won't be the case with the PopCo ones if they ever see the light of day.

Hope that helps!

I do. Looking forward to the expanded library we're getting this year for Sonic's 20th from Jazwares.

Retro-style characters, badniks, (hopefully improved) re-releases, the list goes on.

Way past way past cool.
