Alright CJ, I'm on board with your theory that Amon is Aang's son after yesterday's episode. Because to be Aang's son means he is also Kitara's son, and Kitara is the only bender (other than Aang in Avatar state) that we've seen resist blood bending prior to Amon doing it.
Quote:
I feel like out of all Aang's kids, Amon was the only one without air bending or water bending talents...but Aang secretly developed and taught him Spirit bending with strict guidelines on never using it unless absolutely necessary. What could be more necessary than losing faith in your own father's justice system he worked so hard to maintain when your family is killed by fire bending
gangsters? Taking matters into your own hands by taking away their most lethal weapons makes sense at that point. Quote:
Anyone else notice how Amon has taken the powers away from pretty much everyone who's attacked or crossed Korra so far? Wonder if that's more than just a coincidence?
It works both ways. If he turns out to be Aang's son, I can't think of a reason for him to protect Korra like that, but then we don't have all the facts, and he's also obvioulsy mentally disturbed. So sometimes it doesn't have to make sense. It's the reincarnation of his father, after all. On the other hand, all the people who crossed Korra, also crossed Amon as well. So we might also be looking *too* deeply at this. Either way, this plot is a lot more fun than TLA. While I love that series more, this one is more fun *after* the episode. Rarely does a series make me think so hard about it's plots and where it's going. TLA, we all pretty much knew how it'd go down long term. (It was obvious from the start Zuko would become Aang's firebending teacher)

I just went through watching/catching up with this series today, and man its just as good as TLA. Hope it'll have a longer run after the second season, but just a great show! When i was done, i had that "man damn" feeling cause i want to see new episodes lol, but i also dont want it to end, we'll see what happens.

But any lie that includes additional unexpected episodes is one I'll happily live with! I'm not so sure Asami is a mole. But after the way Mako has been hanging all over Korra, I'd not be the least bit surprised if she betrays them. And watching Lin's sacrifice almost brought tears to my eyes. The only reason it didn't is I was expecting it almost from the start. And the more badass she got, the more it seemed likely. Half expecting Tenzin to lose his bending, too. But hey! Iroh! (I'm assuming it's Zuko's grandson, if not great grandson) WAAAAAY cool to see the Fire Nation coming in as the heroes! All in all, this episode is completely on par with all of the best of TLA! Avatar the TV series predates the The Last Airbender movie by a few years. (Also predates Cameron's movie that stole it's title, too)

I think Korra will have the ability to restore bending and undo what Amon has taken away...

That's certainly an interesting thought... I'd never considered anything like that before...

That was absolutely amazing!
I think the only thing that reduces how amazing it was is how short the season was.

I kinda felt bad for Amon, the way he cried near the end i think he knew it was gonna happen.
The ending was good, but it was still no where near as good as the original Avatar series was. The fights this season have been bland and boring, i remember the fights in the original Avatar and they were just EPIC. So that was the only let down, i was expecting a major fallout battle with Amon but it was meh. |

I agree and dissagree.
I do feel that the endings for TLA felt more satisfying. Especially the final battle between Aang and Ozai. But I also feel that that's partly because it was such a long and hard journey to get there. Every character had his and her share of hardship, and had such a huge role at the end that the Sozin's Comet arc was just so satisfying. If LoK had even half that journey, if we got to see Mako and Amani's relationship happen and end, if we really got to see the pain Amani went through over the betayal of her father, got to see her and Korra become rivals then friends... and in continuity let it play out over 8 or 9 months, the length of Tenzin's wife's pregnancy... basically if it was a full series then t would have been a lot more satisfying. Everyone always bitches about series when they have filler episides... but as far as Avatar goes, those are as important as the main storyline.

Mixed feelings about the ending, agree with CJ and Havok though, and well almost feels like the entire story of Korra is over...so is there a book 2/season 2 after this? If so what would it be on, the growing relationship with her and Mako? Kind of how we missed Aang and him growing up with Katora.
Also now that we know what Amon was capable of doing, I don't think he actually had the true knowledge of energy bending like Aang did to take away people's ability to bend, just a knock off version of it... |

There is a book 2 season 2. I'm looking to attend the Legend of Korra panel at Comic Con in a few weeks and I'm sure it will be brought up.
There are way too many episodes in the original series to try and make any fair comparisons to this one. I loved TLA but I thought the fights in this were epic too. Watching a young Amon and Tarlok practice their blood bending on animals was enough to make me cringe at how cruel their childhood was. What I would like answered next season is how exactly Amon was able to blood bend away the bending of others? How did he train himself to learn that? It wasn't the same spirit bending way that Ang did that's for sure. I thought maybe, like the way chi blocker can strike meridian points to temporarily disable bending that Amon found a way to sever those meridians with his blood bending technique...but that theory was shot to shit after Korra still managed to airbend after. Your thoughts?

Another theory I had was that Aang was the reason why she could not learn air bending in the first place...because he knew all along that she would need a hidden bending ability after Amon took the others away.

Your thoughts? Very true, liked how they portrayed that. Although IMO I would want to move away from Amon in season 2, the ending was more than enough to fill in the gaps and just keep moving forward with Korra and flashbacks of the past. Quote:
I think Korra didn't have the connection to the air element before Amon severed her connection to the other elements. Then after that is when she was able to air bend. That's why she acted surprised when she could air bend against Amon.
Another theory I had was that Aang was the reason why she could not learn air bending in the first place...because he knew all along that she would need a hidden bending ability after Amon took the others away. |

I like solidwii's first theory. I don't like the theory of Aang knowing all along, though, because then it detracts from the fact that she was just struggling with letting go of her Earth personality and be able to accept change, accepting change is what Bagua (martial art used in this series for air bending) is all about. She unlocked her air bending in my opinion because in that moment where she saw Mako about to lose his bending after he saved her she lost her stubborn earth personality for a bit. Then she lost her anchor to all the things that made her who she believed she was (bending) and hit rock bottom to unlock her spiritual side, like Aang said.
I feel like once her spiritual connection was unlocked it would have all flowed back to her anyway. But as far as Amon, I liked him as a Villain and wouldn't mind him playing some sort of role in the next book. In agreement with every that there needs to be more flashbacks!

Wasn't able to make that panel. And neither were the 1000 people in front of me because they reached the 6500 room capacity in line about a day in advance.
But for those who wondered, here's the good news! Comic-Con: The Legend of Korra Renewed Through Season 4 - IGN

What do you think the last book will be about? Book 3 was good, although the fight scene too familiar with Aang and the Firelord.

Apparently the next season will drop in October. They are really trying to burn off the remaining episodes quick.

I guess that's sort of a good thing and a bad thing. Supposedly they pulled it off CN cause ratings dropped and posted it online only which duh ratings are going to drop because it's summer, every kid will be out and about. Hopefully when it's shown in October ratings will soar. This is a great mini series.
