sup arkers. got a question i thought was a pretty gud one. like the title says is being a doubles collector wrong. i just started doing it. if its one i been looking for (x-23, crossbones, joker etc...) then i get one to open and one for my wall. is that taking away from the next collector who just came in the store 3mins behind me and missed out cause i got the last two?
whats your thoughts on this.....

yes its wrong...lol na jk i personally dont do it and dont really mind if someone else does. If its something someone i know is looking for or for trade though i will, i hardly keep anything on card. I think the only thing i have on card are the Revell cars from Bullit and American Graffiti and the mini Kotobukyia Joker oh and SDCC Monochrome Captain America.

I've never done it. Have only gotten doubles so I could give one to my little brother - usually GI Joes.
But I am planning to do it (Loose/MOC style) if I'm lucky enough to come across two Marvel Universe X-23's since she's my fave female Marvel character and all. I will apologize to any future "come in 3 mins after me" guys. I'm dead-set on doing this. |

I think it's a bit silly... costs twice as much, and deprives other people. Kinda seflish. Either open and display, or leave it and display.
I realize that I might sound a bit judgmental, but that's honestly how I see it. |

Nah, if you have the money than its up to you. Noone should be telling you how to spend your money as long as you are able to live comfortably even with spending money on your doubles.

What's wrong with collecting doubles? I've got lots of doubles. Especially when army building.

I don't think its wrong to get doubles. The way I see it; more sales = more toys.
You should collect doubles, no triples... no, quadruples of Arctic Destro! That way all the toy stores in my area can re-stock the Joes.

It only bothers me when collectors buy every new fig on the shelf and then come on here and advertise them for sale with a small mark up. It's hard be a collector and a dealer. It's fine to sell off your extras but buying up all the retail product only to sell them for more $ bothers me. I only buy multipes & extras for my self to keep one MOC or for a friend to sell at cost. Less actually if you count taxes and my cheap friends lol. But seriously I've met several generous fellow collectors in my area and in cyberspace who def hook people up.
I do not think it is wrong to buy multiples for yourself. Some figures demand that you buy more than one, ie Cobra troopers & MU Mutipleman.

Scalpers hit up all the toy stores in their area right when they open, befriend stock boys so they can find out about when new figs arrive, and fight children; sometimes grabbing new figs right out of their chubby little hands. It isn't easy. They deserve to bend us over for our hard earned money after all they've gone through to get those figs.

You dont have to justify buying doubles to anyone. If that's what you want to do then go ahead and do it.

I'll be honest, I hate scalpers, but there are definitely exceptions. For instance, the DC Crime Syndicate set is priced for an astronomical $75 at Wal-Mart (a company I loathe) and I've gone out of my way to relieve them of these overpriced action figures, and I openly resell them to others. Hell, I'm giving one of my newer friends on this board a set for $50. Granted, this feeds my toy collecting habit as much as it will his, but we all do things for different reasons.

1 or 2 extra? No, that's cool, many people do this to display in and out of package. The entire case? Dick move. Period.

I always buy two, one to keep in the package and one to open and display, but ONLY for the characters I really like, which is rare.
I don't think it's wrong to get one or maybe two extra, but if you're hoarding every last thing, then yes. Hoarding is just as bad as selling imo. |

I don't see a problem with it. It's your money. In fact, when I read people getting pissed and calling each other out over buying doubles, buying an extra for trade bait, etc,.. it makes me want to clean out the stores and rub it in their face.

hahaha, there you go man, the winning post in this thread! As I said, how in the hell can another person tell you how to spend you money or how many of a certain item you can buy as long as you are making ends meet?

My MU collection is the only collection I buy doubles, so I can open one and display the other but that is only if I like that character. The MOC figures goes on my wall and the open figure goes right in front.
They only time I bought a double for profit was the Spider-Man 3.75 Shocker that is so hard to come by. I had found them in my local Zellers.. Had to fight to get them because they didn't scan in the computer and the worker there didn't want to sell them to me because they "weren't in the system". After talking with the manager, I was able to leave the store with 2. 1 for my shelf and other for trade. When I uploaded the pic on my facebook ( like I do for all my collections) the owner of the Store that I get almost all my figures from offered me 20$ in store credit because that what he would sell them for in the store and he had someone looking for one. So it wasn't a huge profit, to was a few bucks. But it did help out another collector in my area. And what I liked was the store didn't mark it up once they credited me. I find that really honest. theres my 2 cents |

I was just thinking about this! I collect doubles, one MOC, one to open and display, of MU and Star Wars. I was considering selling my loose figures but had a change of heart...I like having both. I don't buy out stores, I'd hate to deprive other collectors or kids of a shot at a character they were looking for.
