What a difficult question. Best Marvel Villain would either be Doom or Magneto as well rounded characters. However, that doesn't mean they would be the biggest threats. Thanos, Ultron more likely would be.
However, I think that a well-written, well executed storyline would also raise Apocalypse to this level. He really needs to be the center of a Marvel Event - "Apocalypse Now" written by someone other than anyone who has written him in the last 15 years. |

Yes and No. House of M is one of my favorite events in the MU, and Dooms F4 was badass. With Doom being engaged to Scarlet Witch, whats to say he tricks her into giving him everything he ever wanted?

But, when Marvel's management changed hands between Secret Wars II and III, the writers were told to get rid of him. So they retconned his origin (and Molecule Man's) to say that it was a cosmic cube that had somehow gained sentinence, along with giving Molecule Man his powers. And apparently, the other cosmic beings (Living Tribrunal, Galactus, et. al.) went along with the Beyonder's apparent "omnipotence" to in order to ease his transition into a sentient being. Basically it was a big FU to Jim Shooter (who created Beyonder while EiC of Marvel). And yes, there is more than one Cosmic Cube. Technically, the Cube itself is a containment device for an omnidimentional type of energy. Such containment devices aren't always in the shape of a cube, either. And according to Marvel, after an unspecified time the contained energy eventually gains sentience and bases its overall personality on a composite of whomever it came in contact with while still a cube. Of course, Marvel would never retcon a retcon. ...oh, wait. Quote:
I'm changing my answer to Molecule Man then.

@Trebleshot
FYI Franklyn Richards isn't a super villain... yet! Imagine if Franklyn Richards grew up to be the Beyonder, I mean The Beyonder did take the form of Steve Rogers when he first came to Earth, or maybe that was just a buff Franklyn Richards? Either way, make mine Marvel.

Gravition and/or Molecule Man. With Molecule Man they'd have to give him a spine in order to do some REAL damage. Absorbing Man would be awesome if he wasn't portrayed as a moron.

The Beyonder was originally supposed to be a cosmic entity created out the escaped energy of a pocket dimension. That "event" was also supposed to be how the Molecule Man got his powers, since he was the one who opened a gateway to the pocket dimension.
And according to Marvel, after an unspecified time the contained energy eventually gains sentience and bases its overall personality on a composite of whomever it came in contact with while still a cube. I'm sure Jim wishes that was still the case. Of course, Marvel would never retcon a retcon. ...oh, wait. I think Franklin Richards could take him. A strange cocept and fans really hated it so Bendis seems to have dropped presuing the idea. The issue itself was excellent though- a great showing for namor and Black Bolt and when the Beyonder grants the Illumaniti their greatest wish, Doctor Strange wakes up in bed- with Clea and the Scarlett Witch! Gotta say, that's a pretty good damn wish. While I looove me some Thanos, I have to add Gorgon to this list- his first outing saw him easily kill Wolverine and Electra. Really, the guy's got a slew of powers- some form of telepathy, healing factor, super speed reflexes, enhanced endurance, and strength...and a utan power that turns people to stine when he looks at them. Half the time he fists with a freakin blindfold on! Oh, and he's been to hell and back- twice. So he fears nothing: fear and phobia powers dont work on him- nor telepathic attacks. Unfortunately whether Doom has something to say about it or not is moot so long as Evil-Reed has that inhibitor collar on him.
Oh, yeah, I went there.

The Beyonder has (somehow) been retconned yet AGAIN (in Illumaniti) to be an Inhuman Mutant that got exposed to the Terrigen Mists and went super-cosmic: this seeems to happen in the future as Black Bolt was present, but has o memory of it happening and time-travel means zip to the Beyonder.
A strange cocept and fans really hated it so Bendis seems to have dropped presuing the idea. I agree it's a stupid idea. IIRC Inhumans could not be mutants because they aren't human to begin with. Having an Inhuman become a mutant too is like drilling holes in swiss cheese. Quote:

The biggest threat that I know of (I don't know every character) would probably be Galactus.. or maybe Thanos, but my favorite is easily Magneto. Love the back story, love the ongoing "is he really bad or just so passionate about his mutant dream?" And he'll fuck you up.
