This is the thread to post your BIONICLE pics, discuss news or new sets and the like and stuff that's in that area of things...
... I, however, have nothing, so I'll leave this thread up to whoever finds it and I'll come back when I have something. |

There's no prefixes set for this forum yet, which is why you couldn't pick one.
In actual news, I don't know how long it's been like that, but Target took down those Glatorian assortment listings. |

I should post a few pics of my sets. I recently got Makuta Icarax at the LEGO Shop at Woodfield, Toys R' Us always seems to overcharge for exclusives now. He's awesome, I feel like villains such as the Makuta should be this size....

I've done reviews for three of the six new GLATORIAN sets. Originally written up for TFW, I've brought them here for those who want some insight on three very awesome BIONICLE sets.
These are the Glatorian, named so because of their gladiator-type style of fighting to resolve issues and for sport. They also act as protectors of the Agori. First, lets start off with the one Glatorian who went too-far and was banished for taking a life: Malum! Boy, this guy is COOL. His build was straitforward, but not quite like a lot of what we've seen before, mostly due to his hands and head. He looks very buff and heavily armoured. The new claws are great and would be awesome for MOCs. Articulation is good but a little limited in the shoulders, but it's a sacrifice well made-up for by the pure awesomeness of the design and colour choice. Which brings me to my next point: the colours. Notice how there's very little silver. This is great, as even though I like silver when it's a core part of the colour scheme (like on the Toa Mistika or Hydraxon for example) the past years of sets have silver mixed in for a very oblong deco. Here, the silver takes the back seat to the other colours, like red and yellow. Grey shows up, too, but it is more of "skeletal" colour used only for the inner limbs, hands, groin and neck, as well as the thornax launcer base, which brings us over to the next part: I really like the Thornax launcher. The fact that the Thornax are fruit makes it quite funny, actually. It's very simple, it's a multi-part peice, which is good as the two halves can make great parts for MOCing. They're solid black plastic cneter with soft gold sides. They're springy and squishy funness and they shoot rather far, which is good for the game, which brings us to yet another point (I apologize if you feel like luggage at this time): The life game. First off, it's actually pretty cool. The dials are nicely tucked onto the back in a very simple assembly. The game is fun and the wheels (being partially obstructed and mounted on the back) do not interfere with the colourscheme at all. It's simple, get hit, lose a life point. Five hits and you're dead, Jim. At the very least it's a new part and creative MOCers could find many uses for it's gear/wheel design. SPEAKING OF NEW PARTS (segue city): The new helmets were a very clever idea. Malum's design is great with the flames. It has exposed eyes and exposed mouth holes, with an all-over ornamental design the compliments the rest of his design perfectly. The new head, helmet and it's mount also mean that the head has even greater motion then yyou're typical head and mask. This next one is not an individual, per-se, but a "species". The Skrall are not Glatorian, but their own race. In there hierarchy only Skrall deemed above-average worthy by Tuma are allowed names. Obviously boyo here wasn't that fantastic, but seeing as all Skrall are supposed to be super strong and badass, it makes you wonder what the guys with names are like. But yeah, Skrall, everybody! This guy is so nice I forgot he was a BIONICLE set. Seriously, I almost don't know where to start! First off, he's the most "mechanical" of the designs. He's also not as humanoid as others, being a hunchback. He's also rather skinny, but he doesn't look weak, more like he's more agile-looking, despite the hunch. This is amplified by he sleek armour, with a long-streamlined helmet and knife-like bladed armour. His colours are just great. The only silver found is on the bit of exposed life-counter and his launcher. The rest is black and red. Not much else needs to be said. He carries a large sword that is similar to his shoulder armour, being the same peices, and a bladed, buzz-saw shield with an intricate design that has the raised edges painted. Very nice that instead of going just painted one or just moulded one, they opted for both when it came to the shield pattern. Mounted on his sword is his Thornax launcher which is nice as it bulks-up his sword making his blade more of a giant bayonette. (sp?) His life-counter is on his foot. This is a bizzare case in that it really should be a negative, as it is not that small and does make him asymmertric, but combined with the rest of his look it's really not that noticeable and doesn't really get in the way of any natural pose. We also get to see his new hands! Yes, these simple little peices add so much to this figure I can't even find the words o express how much I've been waiting for them. They're very simple, symmetric and still look very BIONICLE-y. They allow a slightly greater range of motion that standard Y-hands of yesteryear, too. And off course we shall touch onto the new peices, such as the head, shoulders/sword and aromour peices. The helmet is very nice with tons of moulded detail and a nice, intimidating face. The "crest" matches the design of his weapons perfectly and really ties this set together. The swords are great. they seem to be the "Lewa Nuva Swords" of 2009, and rightfully so, as tehy're very cool and can serve multiple purposes. The thigh/chest armour is very nice, looking very blunt yet sharp and dangerous. Next is one of the 'good guys'. Tarix is a fair-fighter, and a very good one at that. Winner of many battles, he helps the helpless and punishes the wicked. And beats the living crap out of whoever he's paid to do so to. A true character of 2009, the Glatorian of the water tribe: Tarix! I'll get this out of the way first: Tarix kicks your ass until it's nothing but soup and butt-fuzz. This is just a gorgeous set. He's very simple to build, with a few extra twists for fun. He has a very royal and ornate look to him that combined with his mechanical look typical of BIONICLE and his "breather" reminds me of an Atlantis warrior. His articulation is standard, helped out by the new head and hands design allowing for that extra little bit of motion. I dare say his weapns are the best in BIONICLE. Two-toned blades that look dangerous and ancient yet decorative at the same time. The gold is just so nice and the light blue accents the blue and dark blue of the actual set. One blade holds his launcher mounted on a ball joint, which is good as it allows more freedom of movement. His helmet is just too nice. Before getting him I was not totally into the helmet being dark blue, but in-hand it's really better they went that way. In fact, I think that the amount of dark blue compared to regular blue is very well applied. The gold on regular blue would've been too bright and garish, but on the dark blue it really accents his design. I LOVE how he has the silver horns on the gold shoulder pads. Silver is actually made a part of the deco with the life-counter mount in silver. Not much to say other than the fact that it blends slightly better thanks to silver actually integrated into the main layout. Still, it's fun. This guy is just great. I really wish I had gotten Strakk and Vorox, too, but I could not afford all five at this point. Gresh wasn't even there, as I guess since he's the young dude and the 'main character' (I put that in brackets as they're all the main characters, but he's like Eric from That 70's Show or Homer on The Simpsons in taht sense) kiddies want him first. Funny, I thought Malum would be the one everyone went for. (and to be fair, I did get the last one, so he could've been) |

I was actually surprised to spot the Glatorians at my local Wal-Mart, along with only Power Miners and no other 2009 Lego, oddly enough. At least one of each, and only one or two Agori left. Although he's not supposed to be an individual character, I gave Vorox a try anyway. I wasn't disappointed! As much as I loved the 2008 Makuta, Vorox alone makes them look like crap in comparison. I totally agree with SPLIT LIP that the minimal use of silver parts definitely pays off and makes the figures more eye-catching.
I only got him, but compared to the other Glatorians based on pics alone, he's not as unique as some of the others like Skrall but still has a lot of neat touches. The base of his tail? An old-school original Toa foot! Sword a bit inadequate? Well, he's got his own third "limb"! Let's see Tuma pull that off. And of course, he's not yellow or orange, but properly tan. No complaints here about that. Thanks to SL, I see that I'm definitely going to need Skrall. I like what I've read of the featured Skrall in the comic too; shades of Dinobot, anyone? Not sure what I'd get beyond that and their corresponding Agori. We'll see. |

Copied from my own post on TFW:
I got the final three Glatorian today! REVIEW TIME! WWHHHHOOOOSSHHHHAAAAA!!!! Yeah! First on the list: he's big, he's grumpy, he's a tad greedy and all chilly, it's STRAKK! I really like this dude, first, his design is pretty much Skrall mixed up a little and reversed, but I honestly don't know which I like better. They both have the relatively same design using the Makuta butt-connector, but wheras Skrall had chest armour opposite the butt-thing, Strakk's is actually build into it rather creatively at an angle. I really like how it looks and shows that Lego's tricks of design, like securing it using a stud-pin so it doesn't wobble. Despite how he looks, he's really articulated. His shoulder armour actually angles "forward" to allow the arms to move around the shoulder. He's also interesting in his colour. Dominantly white, as expected, he also has light and dark blue, aswell as translucent blue. The cool part is, his "ice" parts on his shoulders are soft while the base is solid. I like how his arms are dark blue while his legs are white. Not very often you see thsi kind of difference in limbs. The ice fading I mentioned is found on his shoulders, axe and helmet. Oh, speaking of which: Badass. I really like how we're getting specialized parts and weapons for these guys. Really nice axe as it's nice and large and all solid. The axe is really hard to describe, but it just feels cool. I mentioned his colours, and even though from the front they're nice and cool, there is a hitch: Silver blob, silverblob, why do we put up with you? This part could've been made much more attractive if it were white or blue. Though it is on his back, so it's not that bad. But combined with the otherwise tolerable amount of silver that is the actual life wheel, it looks bleh. But on a high note: The helmet is awesome. I love how it looks like he has an old metal barbarian mask with the ice crest. He has a neck that is made of a Metru arm, so he has a great ranch of motion and can express more emotion in his stance. This is probably teh closest thign to an "issue" I have with him. I've already established that I like the Thornax launchers, but his is built right into his hand. It doesn't affect the look at all, but I like to be able to remove the launchers without disassembling them. But, I must say, this guy is pure rock. He's a cool dude, and- oh, oh man, I've been saying 'cool' this whole time. Geddit? Cool, as in ice? He's from the ice tribe? Bahahaha!! I'm so funny. This dude is great, if you really like the Glatorian, he's deffinately one to check out. Okay, this next guy is another 'troop builder'. While Vorox retain individually and have individual names, they have a sot of pack-mentallity. Reverting from a once proud race of warriors to beast-like sand-creatures, the Vorox are nevertheless, as ruthless and dangerous as ever. Also they're kinda creepy, but in a cool way. Vorox is just great. He's original, he has great colours, he's fun to play with and looks great on a shelf. His build was a little bizzare, but it works. On thing I love is that his mask design has an almost boney appearence, which brings out the "boniness" in the Metru legs and Toa mata foot on his back. What's really great is: he's tan, and BROWN. Yup, there's brown on him. Added with teh black is quite nice. It's a little bit but it goes a long way in breaking up the tan and making him look more colourful and cool. Unfortunately, silver makes a half-hearted effort to weasel it's way into the pallet, but without the advantage of having gold or blue offset it, he looks a little less dynamic, but still very striking. A not-so great aspect is the lack of any new weapons. He's the only Glatorian to not have a new part for a weapon. Luckily it doesn't look bad and is more than made up for with the tail on his back. Yup, he has a nifty scorpion-esque stinger-thing on his back that really adds to the individuallity of the set design. He also has a semi-unique way of attaching his life-meter: Like Skrall, he has his on his foot. Vorox has it a little better, though, as he actually has a reason for attaching it there, as no light modification could move it somewhere less-intrusive, not that it intrudes at all here. However: Another not-so-unique feature he shares with a fellow Glatorian is the awkward Thornax launcher mount. Same with Strakk, not a visual botehr and doesn't affect playability, but I would've liked an easier-to-remove setup. Vorox is really a nice set. The tan and bits of brown with black background are a great combo. Rock on, sand-dude. Now the last guy here's a real sweet fighter. He's nimble, sleek and pretty skilled. Gresh is the "main character". He's the youngest, he's the one kids think is teh "coolest' and stuff, and he deserves it. The first thing that gets you about Gresh is that he's nice and bright green, though my camera fails miserably at showing it. His designmay look like a regular Toa Inika, but it's really quite interesting. The leaves/spikes on the helmet, along with the shoulder pads, sheild, feet and leg armour really drive home the plant-theme, but doesn't over-dure it to the point where it comprimises the design. He's very lean and slim, but it fits as he's the agile dude who does backflips for no reason and swings and dashes in between trees. Despite what the shoulder pads seem, he's very posable. The sheild is just great, as it actually looks like it could help deflect Thornax and stops sword blows. Better even, they come of as arm blades, and they work as arm-blades, too. This adds a lot to playability and is great for shifting poses on the shelf. His helmet is just cool, as it's simple and sleek, just liek him. It's quite long, not Skrall long but longer than your average helmet or any mask. It's also angled to fit perfectly with his Inika torso armour. Unlike Strakk or Vorox, he holds his launcher the best. Like a regular blaster, it has a handle that just pops out of his hands. I can't really describe how asthetically pleasing he is, so i just snapped some more pics. |

Nice reviews, SPLIT LIP! I think I like Vorox the best for simply three-armed awesomeness.
I will pick up some 2009 soon, but as for now, I have been taking advantage of 2008 Wal-Mart clearance. Mazeka, who is a Wal-Mart exclusive, is $17 from $30, Vultraz is $11 from $30, and the Axalara T9 is $64 from $80. But I picked up the LEGO Star Wars Droid Gunship instead of Mazeka, as it was the last one.

Well, seeing as there are people here, here's my reviews of the Glatorian and Agori I have so far, copied from my posts in my Non-Transformers Reviews thread:
It's been a while since I posted a review in here, but here we go. It's a review on Malum, one of the 2009 Bionicle sets called Glatorian, and is the former Fire Tribe Glatorian. Here we go! Malum: Malum is a nice combination of red, orange, and gray. While silver is used in this set, it took a massive back-down because in the Mistika, silver dominated all colors. While I am a fan of silver, it's nice to get back on focusing on the colors of what element the Bionicle is suppose to be. Back shot of Malum. On his back is located a health counter. Close-up of the health counter. The reason for this is because Bionicle now has a game that involves two Glatorian battling each other. The new pieces that Malum comes with. From left to right: Glatorian/Agori head, flame claw, straight Hordika neck, one half of Thornax Launcher, Thornax fruit, Malum's helmet, health counter. Malum comes with many new pieces, it's just so awesome. There are a few things about Malum you should know though. For one, the Kalmah Hordika feet on his arms slightly hinders his articulation. And he's also the shortest Glatorian in the Winter 2009 sets. My Final Thoughts: Just like everything else in the world, pro's and con's accompany this set. Pro's:
Con's:
This is a great set. If you were thinking of passing him over, than you're wrong. He's a great addition to your collection, and you won't be disappointed. Stars: 9.5 out of 10 Malum's getting ready for his "Rider Kick"! Here's another review, this time for Skrall! Skrall: Now, before I begin, Skrall is actually a species, not just one being. Skralls don't have names until they are granted by Tuma, who must see if you earned it by doing something honorable and worth mentioning by history. So anyways, a Skrall will generally carry a sword with a built-in Thornax Launcher, and a buzz-saw shield that can be thrown like Captain America's shield. They're also perfectly balanced with their colors, which consists of Toa Mata red and black. Back shot of a Skrall. You may notice that a Skrall's body is connected with a Makuta Phantoka Shadow Matoran connector. And on his heel is his health counter. Close-up of a Skrall's health counter. Now this slightly peeves me off, because of the fact that his health counter is on his heel. This is very sad, but I have a solution to this, which I will show later. New pieces that a Skrall comes with. From left to right: Glatorian/Agori fists, one half of a Thornax Launcher, a health counter, a Skrall blade, a black straight Hordika neck, a Glatorian/Agori head, a Skrall shield, a Thornax fruit, a Skrall helmet, and a new black thigh/arm armor. Skrall, like all of the other 2009 canister sets, comes with boatloads of new pieces. They look agile, despite being hunchbacked, and powerful. My Final Thoughts: Even if this guy is great, nothing comes flawless. Pro's:
Con's:
But still, great set, I don't regret getting him, and I suggest that you also get yourself a Skrall. Stars: 10 out of 10 Skrall is ready for his battle! But before I go and make Strakk's review, I'll show you how I put my Skrall's health counter on his back. First, build your health counter normally. Second, find a black Inika shoulder pad and put the health counter on it, like so in the picture. Third, you use a three-cm. x-axle and put it in the Inika shoulder pad. Fourth, look for the hole nearest to the Matoran connector on Skrall. Fifth, you find a small blue pipe connector (like in Strakk's set) and place it in the hole. Sixth, you place the Inika shoulder pad on the lowest hole on the Matoran connector, and push the three-cm. x-axle in (as seen in the picture below). There you go! It's on his back. But how do you see the health counter without picking Skrall up? Here's how: (Sorry about the blurry picture) So there you go! Now you have the health counter on his back now! It's a bit wobbly, but it does it's job. |

Here's the rest:
Now's it Strakk's turn to be reviewed. Strakk: Strakk is a nice combination of white, dark blue, ice blue, and baby blue. I really like the clear ice blue on Strakk's shoulder pads. Back shot of Strakk. He uses the same idea that Skrall uses, but it's executed in a totally different way. It's awesome, I say, awesome! It makes him look like a hunchback, but he's actually the tallest Glatorian I currently have. Close-up of Strakk's health counter. Nothing for me to say hear, really, but it makes Strakk have less empty space on him. The new pieces that Strakk comes with. From left to right: Thornax fruit, one half of Thornax Launcher, Glatorian/Agori fists, Glatorian/Agori head, icicle shoulder pads, Strakk's helmet, his ice ax, and a health counter. Like all of the other Glatorian of Winter 2009, Strakk is filled to the brim with new pieces, it's really cool, and plus it rocks! My Final Thoughts: Even if he's really cool (heh heh, pun), Strakk can't escape the inevitable pro's and con's. Pro's:
Con's:
Stars: 10 out of 10 He's a great addition to your collection, you won't be disappointed. With his helmet's under-bite, combination of colors, and awesome ax, he is worth the 13 dollars you spend! \ "I'ma swingin' mah ax at ya!" Now that I have covered the thee Glatorian I currently own, I now review my only Agori, Atakus! Atakus: Atakus is your standard Av-Matoran design, being finished in a blink of an eye to veteran Bionicle collectors. His colors consist of black, gray, and his red head. Back shot of Atakus. He's not that amazing, but with his awesome swords, hands, and head he's got amazing articulation. The new pieces that Atakus brings us. From left to right: glow-in-the-dark Skrall swords, Glatorian/Agori hands, Glatorian/Agori head, and his helmet. His helmet looks like a smaller and skinnier version of a Skrall's helmet, but you can tell it's his own. With the terrible neck problem that the Av-/Shadow Matoran had gone, Atakus is a great small canister set to buy. My Final Thoughts: But will he pass the pro's and con's? Pro's:
Con's:
Stars: 10 out of 10 He's the only Agori I currently own, but I can guarantee you, I will be buying more small canister sets than I did the years before. Look out! He's coming for you! I'm just going to get this review out of the way. Tarix: Tarix is the Glatorian of the Water Tribe, and he's appropriately blue. His hands and feet are Mata blue, a color we haven't really seen since the 01-03 (Personally, I think they should have used more shades of blue for him, it's looks to weird with just the hands and feet being a different color). Back shot of Tarix. It's nice how they made silver a part of the color scheme, rather than to have the Thornax Launcher and the health counter to be the only silver parts in this set. Close-up of Tarix's health counter. The new pieces that Tarix comes with (NOTE: I show pieces that are new to the series/years, like the hands. That's why I show the hands in each review). From left to right: health counter, one half of the Thornax Launcher, a Thornax fruit, Tarix's helmet, Glatorian/Agori hand, an unbent Hordika neck, Glatorian/Agori head, Tarix's water blade (the blade part, not the hilt). Well, Tarix isn't that impressive as a set alone, but what really makes this set pop out is his character, which makes him almost knight-like, with his codes of honor and willingness to help others before himself. My Final Thoughts: But will Tarix's codes of honor win out in the pro's and con's? Pro's:
Con's:
Stars: 9 out of 10 Stars Not too well. I don't really recommend this set, but it's not a bad deal at the same time. But if you're going for a budget and choosing what to get, Tarix is one of the few sets you can look over. "I challenge thee to a duel!" |
