This time I'm gonna review Super Fire Dagwon. It was really a piece I had acquired 'because it was there'. I was after braves. Any braves. This just so happened to turn up on ebay from hong kong and it was cheaper than buying from Toyarena so I snagged it. I then bought Power Dagwon to accompany it. Well since then I've warmed up to it. Its final form is certainly more thought out than Fire J-Decker's.
En was the usual high school delinquent. He would rather spend the day at an arcade than at school. One day his town is invaded by sand based aliens and he and his friends would have been killed if Brave Seijin (alien) had not come to their aid. Prior to this Brave Seijin had taken several earth vehicles, copied and modified them for combatting Alien invaders who had broken out of the Sargasso Galactic Prison and set their sights on earth. To protect earth, Brave Seijin grants these five (soon six) teenagers the power to become Dagwon and fight these escaped prisoners. When En as Fire En is not enough he calls Fire Stratos to his aid. Fire Stratos is your usual police car transformer. With a shout of "Yugou GattaI! (Fusion Formation!) he becomes one with the Fire Stratos and becomes Dag Fire! It has a basic transformation comparable to Dran's. He also wields the Fire Blaster. He has one articulation at each elbow. Fire Jumbo is En's personal jet that he likes to sleep in. Its got a massive under carriage that you wont find on any other plane. Take note that I forgot to pull down the wheels for these shots. Fire Jumbo can transform into a base mode. Fire Ladder and Fire Rescue can be stored in the undercarriage. Fire Stratos can also store inside the body of the vehicle behind the cockpit. "Kaen Gattai!" (Flaming Formation!) "Fire Dagwon!" Its a very TV accurate form though the mouthplate looks a bit strange. It has basic articulation (two at shoulders and one at elbow. Disappointing when Goldran had the extra arm swivel). His ladder can extend into the Fire Blade. His hips have clips which are used to attach a special base for Gunkid to mount in Mugen Cannon mode. Onto Power Dagwon.

The Fire Jumbo is damaged in the fight against Ark Seijin when he threatens to bring earth into a new ice age. En crashes the Fire Jumbo into Ark Seijin's fortress and they are both lost at sea. After this incident Luna, another Dagwon member arrives on earth after the Queen of the Ant Seijin. In DagFire's time of need she transforms a nearby shovel into the Fire Shovel and gives it to En as a replacement of his lost Fire Jumbo.
The toy comes with a second Dagfire figure. This time it is molded in two parts and more accurate to the TV version but it cannot transform. Thats just as well since he can combine with Fire Shovel just the same. The Fire Shovel is ok. Why it needs two driver seats I will never know. Also the dragon head at the back doesnt help. "Gouriki Gattai! (Powered Formation!) Both the old and new DagFire can fit into power Dagwon. Because of his inablility to move his arms outwards and his legs being practically stuck together Power Dagwon has a more rigid appearance than Fire Dagwon. Apart from his Shovel arm he can also add a drill or claw to it. And they can be store on the back of the shovel arm. Unlike Fire Dagwon, Power Dagwon has a lever especially used to attach Gunkid. To his credit. He can actually walk forward. He also has a 'tank' mode. After a some episodes without Fire Dagwon, one incident takes En underwater wherein he is saved by Brave Seijin. Brave Seijin reveals to him that he had repaired the Fire Jumbo and that it would help him greatly. After that Rai accidentally stumbles upon data revealing the union between Fire Dagwon and Power Dagwon. This is a rarely used combination. Only appearing in 3 episodes (41, 45 and 47). Its first combining causes En to collapse and and he is taken out of action for a bit. This is nothing to be laughed at. Also his combined attack with Lian and Gunkid is called 'Triangle Christmas Beam' which IS funny. "Rai! Fire the Super Fire Union Wave!" "Chou kaen Gattai!" (Super Flaming Formation!) "Super Fire Dagwon!" The additions Power Dagwon gives makes Super Fire Dagwon all that more bulkier. It looks very cool but the shovel arm likes to drop because of the heaviness of the arm. An accidental buy that I love now . Its a bit simplistic though after what Great Goldran gave us.

Yes, but the thing is gigantic in every respect. You should track down a Gunkid and a Lian, they make the final thing even more gigantic if that is even possible:

I've been thinking about it. But they cost almost as much as a combiner team each from Toyarena. That really kills the deal for me. And I've still got a few combiner sets to buy (Super Build Tiger and Land Bison) as well as leaders (Granbird and Dagarn X). My hands are tied and I wont be able to buy them for a while.
And these are only the stuff I absolutely want. Theres other stuff thats been tempting me as well like J-Decker and Super liner Dagwon (although Toyarena only has Liner Dagwon). Brave is too addictive. I'm glad I'm not tempted by the the Brave Goukins now . Because that would make my wallet feel even worse.

There should be episode summaries of the Brave series. Some notable ones are Goldran, J-Decker, Da Garn, and Dagwon. Fans should know at least the plot of those series.

I can sum up most of the series in short. Major props to Tarngold of TFW, he helped us all learn some more of what the series are all about:
Exkaiser The space pirates, the Geisters, come to Earth in search of treasures. Hot on their heels are the Kaisers, an intergalactic peacekeeping force. The six Kaisers - Exkaiser, Blue Raker, Green Raker, Dash Max, Drill Max and Sky Max - all take on earth mode disguises so they can lie in wait and act whenever the Geisters make a move for a treasure (which can in their definition be anything from an antique camera to a space shuttle mission). The Geisters can transform inanimate objects into dinosaur-themed mecha, and also fuse them together in new configurations. They are led by Dinogeist / Dynoguyst, a powerful warrior easily the rival of the strongest Kaiser warrior, Great Exkaiser. Fighbird Fighbird takes a similar theme but puts a more mature spin on it. The villains, Draias and his followers, come to Earth and ally with a mad scientist Dr Jango. Their scheme is to gather "minus energy" and ultimately remake existence as a twisted, dark version of what we know, with Draias as its god. Opposing him are Fighbird and his allies, who like the Kaisers from Exkaiser, are energy beings who take on earthly vehicles as bodies. Fighbird has a human identity - Katori Yutaro - and he lives with the family of the good natured if a little wacky Dr Amano and his two grandchildren. As the series progresses, Draias gains a powerful and near unstoppable mechanical body and destroy's Fighbird's Firejet, leading to the creation of the Fire Shuttle / Granbird. When Firejet is rebuilt, Fighbird merges the two vehicles to form his ultimate form, Great Fighbird! Da Garn Da Garn takes a more arc-based approach to the story, with each group of episodes chronicling the attack of a different member of an alien alliance out to drain Earth of its energy. This time around, the Braves are the spirits of the Earth (except one who is the spirit of an alien world...). When the main character finds the Brave Stones, which contain the spirits of the Braves, they enter nearby vehicles to become robot defenders of the world. Arguably one of the best series, it's a lot more fast paced with some memorable and well-developed enemies, each with their own personal "style". Pink uses feminine mecha. Debutcho mostly uses genetically engineered kaiju. Redlon uses classic styled mecha (he later pilots the Red Geist, a Dezaras inspired design) Might Gaine The best way to sum this up is Batman meets Brave robots. Sempuhji Maito is a rich orphan and head of his father's business empire in a world where fossil fuels dried up and everything runs on electric engines. He's partnered with a Super-AI robot, Gaine, and together they fight a colorful rogues gallery which includes a cat burglar, an amusement park shogun out to restore feudal japan, a mad scientist, and a former military pilot turned rebel without a cause. The story picks up mid series when the truth behind the death of Maito's parents is revealed and a shady businessman who is pulling the strings from behind the scenes, Mr Exeve, is revealed. From that point onwards, things kick into high gear, as Maito and his friends race to stop Exeve's plan of world domination. (This series also features Sally, whose constant job-swapping cameos is one of the better light-hearted moments, although sometimes she seems to just exist to get in harms way). J-Decker This series is one I've not seen so much of. It basically revolves around a boy Yuuta who accidentally discovers and activates a super-AI robot named Deckard, forming a bond between the two. Yuuta gets enlisted into the police as he's the only one able to bring out the full strength of the super-AI robots. The show mainly takes the form of "criminal of the week" for the first half, with a new recurrent villain Guilty O'Reilly showing up mid series. There's also an ongoing subplot involving the tragic past of the initial super-AI project. Goldran Goldran is something of a parody, a much lighter-hearted series with lots of humor. The story is about journey or adventures, with the motto of the final episodes seeming to be "adventure never ends". I don't know Japanese so I'm not sure of anything beyond the fact that the final bit has the dialogue "bouken" a good number of times. Anyway... The story goes that the three main kids are journeying the world, racing to find the mythical power stones before the villain, Walter Walzack, does. Whoever claims them all can unlock the path to the legendary power of Legendora (or something like that). When this actually happens mid-series, the gang set off into outer space and have many adventures on alien worlds, all the while going up against Sirius Walzack, Walter's brother. Walter's still about under the Harlock-inspired identity of Itar Izack with possibly one of the coolest mecha of all time, Captain Shark - a pirate mecha who turns into a gigantic spacefaring shark. Dagwon Dagwon is the Sentai-styled series. Five (later rising to eight, if you count Luna) teens are selected by Brave Seijin to counter the inmates of the alien prison Sargasso (named for the Sargasso sea theory). The inmates have taken over the prison, and Earth is their next target. Very character based, this one, with some ongoing arcs between episodes. It also spawned an OVA, which was very light on action and had no real mecha appearances at all. The ending to this series, the final episode, was one of the show's best and arguably one of the best anime finales ever - the last battle is over, and the heroes have to come to terms with the cost that victory came at. And last but not least: Gaogaigar The greatest of them all, arguably. Gaogaigar follows the story of Guy Shishio, a former astronaut turned into a cyborg to keep him alive following a near-fatal space shuttle accident, and young Mamoru, a boy with alien powers. No angst over their unusual situations in this series, though - the heroes accept their gifts and use them to fight for the good of mankind against the Zondarians, and their Zondar monsters. The Zondar are created from people with a lot of stress or anger, such as a scientist angry about being overlooked in favor of a rival. On purification, these Zondar repent their ways, with some even joining the heroes later in the series. Part way through the series, the mastermind of the Zondarians, Pasda aka EI-01 is defeated. But a new enemy emerges - the 31 Machine World Primevals. These 31 prove much tougher than the Zondarians, and new weapons and allies are needed to fight them. Even then, they are no laughing matter. Ultimately though they too are defeated, along with their "true" united form, the Z Master. Gaogaigar has a sequel OVA, known as Gaogaigar Final Final is the Ragnarok of the Braves. After the destruction of the Z Master, the 11 Masters of Sol activated and began a quest to recreate their lost solar system. The heroes of the GGG tried to stop them of course, but the battle was huge and costly. Even with the true power of the ultimate form of Gaogaigar, Genesic Gaogaigar, they were hard pressed to win. It's eight episodes of the best, purest, hot-blood action out there, and the ultimate sequel to one of the greatest series ever made. There's also a couple of videogame Braves: Baan Gaan Appears in the first two Brave Saga games. Baan Gaan and his companions at VARS fight against the evil forces serving Grandark, along with a host of enemies drawn from all the other Brave series (except Gaogaigar who is featured in the sequel). Varion Varion is the main mecha who turns up in Brave Saga 2, along with some other characters like Magna and Flash, who could all be considered part of Baan Gaan's universe as I think they all hail from Astaria, but I might be wrong. Gaogaigar plays a relatively prominent role in this one, and adventures from the other Brave shows not used in the first game, such as the Satan J Decker saga, are also incorporated. Both Brave Saga games are basically crossovers, but it is so good to get to play as a lot of these guys. Rayserver Appears in the PS2 New Century Brave War game. I've not played more than the first couple of missions, but it starts out that the hero and Layzer / Rayzer go after one of the villains who hops through different realities at will with the hero's childhood (girl) friend in tow. No idea where it goes from there, I've got to play through the second Brave Saga first! |

Just a note. The Fire Shuttle was not created to replace the Fire Jet. It was introduced while the Fire Jet was still functional. But by then Draias had gotten a bit wiser and shot down the Fire Jet while Katori was helpless and the Fire Shuttle had just at that moment arrived to help and katori seems to draw the inner energy from the Fire Jet into the Fire Shuttle (thats what it looks like, no explanation was givven) to allow Katori to remote control the Fire Shuttle and combine with it.
The Dagwon ending was very emotional indeed. The whole episode dealt with the characters coming to terms with En's loss and Maria's belief that he would come back. The moment En is revealed to be still alive is one of the most touching scenes I've seen in anime. Of course I havent been keeping up with more recent anime so it may not have as much impact on you guys . Magna and Flash are considered part of Brave Crusade Baan Gaan but not Varion. Strange. It should be noted that the first Varion mecha(Moto Varion)'s combined form is very much like Getter Robo or Aquarion in that different combos makes different forms.

Next up its Great Might Gaine! Now this is not the original Great Might Gaine figure. This is the reissue that came out a few years ago. It has muted colours and more colour on the chrome pieces as well as a lot more painted parts rather than stickers. I've been contemplating getting this set for a while now but its always slipped from my grasp. Until I found a auction for it on ebay in which very few people were bidding. I won it for only ÂŁ60 or so. Pretty good I'd say. I also have to say that both Brave Revival Great Goldran and Brave Revival Great Might Gaine's boxes are HUGE!
Now Brave Express Might Gaine is a change from those that came before it. No energy life forms or earthern spirits possess vehicles in this to make them magically transform. This was an all technology based series. With everything (including Locomoriser) running on electricity. The Braves are commanded by a rich kid called Maito who runs his parent's company and fight crime in the process. Very Batman like as Sol Fury said . This is Gaine. The first AI Brave introduced. He takes on the form of a bullet train. Very nice and white . It should be noted that this particular train form is used three times throughout the braves line. First as Earth Liner (becomes Dagarn X's legs) and third as Dag Turbo. Quite popular eh? Gaine makes a pretty good look robot. He features his signature Gaine Magnum weapon which is shaped like the front of his train mode . The guns on Locomoriser can attach to his legs. He only has two articulation (one at each shoulder). I like that they completely painted his arms rather than requiring stickers like the original. Next up is Might Wing. Its vehicle mode is used again for Dag Wing. Its the same size as Gaine's vehicle mode. This vehicle is pilotted by Maito. It can transform into a 'flight mode'. Locomoriser is the biggest of the three trains. Mainly because of the combination. Take that, scale! Its very nice. The changes are more noticeable for this vehicle. The blue is not quite as light as the original and the gold is a lot more brighter and nicer looking than the original. Also the lights have now been painted over. Not many steam trains transformers so I apprecite it . Gaine and Might Wing with Locomoriser. Gaine and Might Wing can dock inside Locomoriser. "Let's Might Gaine!" "Might Gaine! Kidou!" (Might Gaine! Activate!) Locomoriser becomes the main body and Gaine and Might Wing forms the arms. Very nice if not a bit rigid. The legs splt apart but barely. The muted colour scheme makes this form all the nicer. It has about the same articulation as Goldran in the arms but the arms cant go out to the side because of his transformation... "Might Shield!" "Dorinken!" One of the best parts about this reissue is the fact that the Dorinken is now chromed in the correct colours. Very nice. The guns can still be attached to Gaine's legs as arm cannons. Next up Might kaiser.

Later on we learn why the Brave Express project was created in the first place. To fulfill Maito's father's dream he continues to create more Brave robots. Nearing the halfway mark we see the Kaiser machines nearing their final adjustments and fine tuning. But all is not well as Might Gaine is defeated by Ace no Joe. With Might Gaine out of action The other Braves seek Ace no Joe for revenge. An injures Maito joins the fray but as he is about to be shot down the Drill Express appears to aid him.
The Kaiser machines are stored in the Kaiser Carrier and Kaiser Drill tows them. This is called the Drill Express. There is a small storage space for each Kaiser machine. Kaiser Drill is the 'made for combining' vehicle. The front looks good but the back... You can tell they are the robot's upper legs. Kaiser 1 is a jet. Pretty compact. Has a giant 'lump' on its back (to carry Might Kaiser's head). Kaiser 2 is a drill. Kaiser 3 is a crane. Kaiser 4 is a submarine. Kaiser 5 is a shovel. All Kaiser machines together. All the Kaiser machines (and parts from the carrier) can form together into the Kaiser Jet. You know what is the most annoying thing about the anime? The fact that the Kaiser machines are so versatile and yet the anime never uses them aside from being the power up device... After docking into the Kaiser Drill Maito quickly activates the change into Might Kaiser allowing him to go toe to toe with Ace no Joe's Hiryu and eventually defeating him making him question his ideals. "Change Might Kaiser!" "Might Kaiser Kidou!" I have to say, the head scuplt for Might Kaiser blows. The cylinders on the side of the mouth plate are too big. It has only two articulation... "Kaiser Drill!" Leaves a giant hole in his enemies. Cool huh? Next up Might Gunner.

After retreating from a fight with Ace no Joe's newest mech Goryu, Maito discovers that a giant asteroid is headed straight for Earth. What solution is that but that blast it head on with Earth's mightiest weapon? Might Gunner is first introduced as the Dan Gan Express (Bullet Express) with no apparent AI built in yet. After a short fight with Goryu Maito flies Great Might Gaine up into Earth's atmosphere and prepares the Perfect Cannon only to find that the fight had exhausted too much of Great Might Gaine's energy reserves. As all hope seems lost Goryu flies up towards Great Might Gaine. Is he up for a rematch? No. He came to help! Attaching Goryu to the Perfect Cannon as well they blast the asteroid into next year.
His vehicle mode is another steam train similar to Locomoriser. Its guns at the back can move up and down. Another improved colour scheme. Its original green was VERY bright. Afterwards an AI is placed into the Dan Gan Express officially making him the last Brave Express member to join the team. Despite carrying a BFG in his chest he is all about accuracy. His robot mode is pretty basic. Two articulation again. I do like the head sculpt though. He has a weapon called the Self (serufu?) cannon which is not used in the anime. He has a gun handle on his back and you can 'load' him up and fire . Might Gaine, Might Kaiser and Might Gunner together. "Lets Might Gaine!" "Great Dash!" "Great Might Gaine!" Great Might Gaine is Might Gaine on steroids. Kaiser Drill bulks up Might Gaine's body and Kaiser 4 and 5 become shoes while Kaiser 3 and 2 becomes arm weapons. He also gains wings and a V crown. Its a good upgrade though his arm length has always bothered me. A bit too short for this form. Add in Might Gunner and you have Great Might Gaine Perfect Mode. The gun handle remains on Might Gunner . This mode is HUGE! One of the more impressive 'Great' Braves. The Great Might Gaine set is great. Especially the reissue with better colour scheme. But it takes up a lot of space. But most Braves do . I'm just dissapointed that Might Kaiser's individual vehicles do not have bot modes.

You asked for those in the last thread. Most of us havent even seen those series and even if we have we might not understand them because they have not been subbed yet. I've given you a summary of some goings on at the end of dagwon before.

Sally from Might Gaine reminds me of Kelly from RID.
I also have to say I like transforming steam trains and think that there should be more, regardless of the advent of bullet trains and the like. They are just an iconic design in their own right.

Yes. His mother and sister (if I recall right) ask if he's secretly got a girlfriend when he keeps sneaking off to see Deckard .

the art design on that series made a lot of characters look feminine. Guess it was how they drew the hair.

That series and Goldran had really different art style to the otherseries. Goldran is a lot more cartoony (is that possible?) and I cant even describe J-Decker's.

Ok Heres a quick bare bones review of CM's Raijinoh. I have very few of its accessories. And no changeable hands.
First up is Ken-oh (Sword King). He is very articulate and is pretty accurate to the show. He should have a sword hilt that slots on his back but I lost mine. 60% Diecast. Next up. Ho-oh (Phoenix King). It looks nice from the top but his body is primarily the frame that fits on Ken-oh as the arms/head/back. Has a show accurate hand transformation . No diecast. Last up is Ju-oh (Beast King). The way the legs fold up is ingenious! He has agood head sculpt too. The legs tend to collapse under its bodies weight because Ju-oh is 80% diecast. Ken-oh can sort of ride him. "Muteki Gattai! Raijin-oh!" (Invincible Union! Raijin-oh!) His complete form is very accurate to the show. Right down to how his hands are revealed and how Ju-oh's legs collapse into themselves. Problem is his legs are 80% diecast. Kenoh's legs likes to fall down under the weight when lifted by the body. His 'crown' is also made of really thin plastic and mine has some stress marks on it.It has good articulation though the knee is slightly limited. Cm's should have packaged Raijinoh by itself and sold Bakuryu-oh seperately! And the crown should have been made of more sturdy plastic. Some clipping system should have been used for Ken-oh's collapsing legs. Its not a bad toy really beut it couldve been improved.

Double review today. First I'm gonna review Granbird then his nemesis Draias.
The first vehicle Katori has access to is the Fire Jet. During episode 29 Professor Amano creates the Fire Shuttle to launch a probe into space thats supposed to generate solar energy and send it to his lab so he wont have to pay his bills (but it turns out recieving the energy costs more than he is already using). During battle Katori was tricked into leaving the Fire Jet defenseless and was severely damaged by Draias' surprise attack. Amano arrived just in time to save Katori and seeing his friends in danger channels his burning justice to bring the Fire Shuttle to life and combine with it. It is irregularly used after this. "Fire Shuttle!" The shuttle mode is ok. Nothing too amazing (Fire Jet was more inventive). You can clearly see the robot arms in this form 'hiding' as side blasters. If you turn him around you can see his head where the thrusters should theoretically be. He's also got a hole near the back on the right side of the back fin (used for combining). The two halves of the Gran Cannon can be placed on the side of his arms. Unlike the Fire Jet, the Fire Shuttle does not have flip up windshield. Instead you split the cockpit in half to fit Katori inside. It should be noted that Katori has a white 'backpack' in the original japanese Granbird release (as opposed to silver in the Fighbird release) but it seems the korean one sticks to the same silver back. Fire Shuttle and Fire Jet. The back fins can be flipped down and the Breaster Jet can fit on top. He is is very close to the Armed Granbird mode lol. Katori fits into the slot on his chest. Note that the cover that folds down on his face doesnt hide it very well. "Form up! Granbird!" Practically just the shuttle mode stood up. It has only elbow articulation. It looks ok. Rather lackluster compared to Fighbird. The 'wings' on his head are supposed to flip back but thats a minor complaint. His arms can revert to cannon mode. Granbird and Fighbird. "Breaster Jet! Jet Gattai! Granbird!" The Breaster Jet can be combined with Granbird to form Jet Union Granbird. He uses this form to activate his devastating weapon the Gran cannon which are supposed to be housed in his shuttle cockpit halves (in the show). In the show the missiles next to his head can also be folded onto his back (not here). "Gran Cannon!" Jet Union Granbird and Busou Fighbird.
