This is one of the precious few times I'm regretful that I cannot take pictures.
Today my Saint Walker and Rorschach figures finally came in. And the Watchmen Club figures have completely blown my mind! I was expecting pretty much the exact same thing as the standard CIE, only with a watchmen theme to the package. That's reasonable, right? I opened up the shipping box, and there was the usual white box that Saint Walker was in. But Rory was muuuuch bigger. Almost as large as the white boxes that they send the oversized figures in. And it's not white, it's black. And it looks very much to be themed on a comic cover. It's black. And it has WATCHMEN on top in the usual watchmen font, and RORSCHACH at the bottom in yellow letters, with the doomsday clock at 11:42 (I'll be interested if this clock changes with each release). It's the same on botch front and back. But on the sides, it's unique. On one side, it has black inkblots on a yellow backgrounds, and on the other side it has a black and yellow brck wall pattern (Black bricks, yellow grout), with letters that are part of a graphitti marger than the image, that would say "Who Watches the Watchmen?" I will be extremely curious if future releases form the entire phrase, when put all together bookcase style. That was interesting enough. But it doesn't end there. I opened it and pulled out a friggin COMIC BOOK. Rorschach's package is a friggin' comic book! It's a very large cardboard and plastic clamshell, with the front being the very iconic main Watchmen cover, with the drop of crimson red blood over the tilted eye. The white plastic that contains the figure on the outside is molded to look like pages. The spine was the traditional WATCHMEN font, with a yellow and black drawing of Rory. Inset onto the covor's side of the interior is a large card with Roiry art. On the back of the card is a bio that reads like Prose, and almost sounds like a page from Rory's journal. Rory himself is gently inset inside his bubble, with no restraints save for the molding of the package. He has a very impressively sculpted grappling hook, and behind him is a sculpted multi-dimentional figure stand (To say 3D would be too much, but it is far from flat like a normal DCUC figure stand). Rorschach himself is about what you would expect from a Mattel DCUC figure when they're on their game. There's not much else to say about him, because he's great. He's not a surprise wonder like some DCUCs can be, but he's not nearly as bad as people were trashing him from early on. (Minor note, beware. He does have one of thise clear rubber bands tied around his feet, that will rip through the thin plastic of the sealed bubble if you're not careful.) This is AMAZING! I am SO GLAD I subscribed to the Watchmen sub! This is definately my highlight of the year so far! The Watchmen line is more expensive, and I know that turned a lot of people off of it, but they have truely made this something more special than their standard subscription lines. Also, I appologize if the packaging had been known and reported about. But I recalled seeing nothing about packaging this special when Mattel was talking about the sub.

I'm glad I passed on this sub. Rorschach is the only figure in the line that looks good. Manhattan looks extremely disproportionate, Silk Spectre looks like she got beaten with the ugly stick, and NiteOwl looks extremely limited in his articulation.

The packaging is pretty nice, compared to other things offered. I will at least keep it where I usually toss 95% of packaging I get. I am a total out of the box collector, exceptions are the MOTU classics and anything with nice /painted box art. And they posted a video showcasing the Watchmen packaging a couple weeks before the went up on mattycollector.

I'm the same way. Only really nice boxes get kept for me. This is definately a keeper. I'm half tempted to pop him back in and display him in it.
And a revealed in a video? No wonder I didn't know. Nothing loses my interest faster than a video. Just a lazy way of doing a review, or reveal, I think. Either way, worked out for the best for me, because that was the nicest surprise I've had in a *looong* time!

The only boxes I keep nowadays are ones to my Japanese Figuarts and MonsterArts. American packaging is worthless to keep and not worth it.

My Rorschach arrived today as well and I'm impressed as well...though his leg articulation restricted by the coat it killing me.
I flipped him over to see if I could undo the bottom part of the coat at least and found *suprise!* that he has a peg that goes into a hole on the underlapping coat flap holding it closed... but then its also glued shut (far as I can tell).... It makes me wonder if they had initially planned to have the bottom part of the coat open to free up his legs, and then glued it shut real quick before he went into production? Either way, I was thinking of taking my exacto knife and trying to carefully cut around the peg and see if I can re-open the bottom of his coat so I can finally let Rorschach move a bit more (its hard to kick ass when you can't move your legs!)

I think it was always intended to be glued shut. That's the way these things usually are.
But, it doesn't bother me, though. My only real caviate is I wish he came with two other heads. One identical, but with a different pattern, and one unmasked. As awesome as the 4H have been lately with their headsculpts, a rorschach unmasked head would have been epic.
