I had a modest collection of 40 Transformers (mostly Primes, Starscreams, and a few others I liked), a dozen Venom figures, two MOTUC figures, and just a few others... All on display in or on a collectible case purchased from Ikea... My ex CONSTANTLY was pissed with my collection. I downsized the majority of it, and still there was too many in her opinion. See, she "grew up" and sold almost all of her anime crap, so I was not allowed to enjoy my collection. |

Exactly. This show, if discovered by the wives/girlfriends/whatever, will only fan the flames. Blurring collecting and hoarding together is just not good for any of us.

Yes, yes and yes!!! At least most of the collectors should figure out by now to find out if your soon to be wife likes your collection and find that out before you get married. With girlfriends if you dump your collection for her and she dumps you, what do you have left? If she wants the collection gone she is not worth it! Always learn someone's dislikes!

People are making way too big of a deal out of this. There's a huge difference in hoarding & collecting. Even an insane collection still isn't hoarding. Hoarders live in filth, hoarding garbage among other useless items.
I can totally understand if someone's significant other doesn't want their living room and bedroom full of toys. But if any female tries to make a guy sell or get rid of something that is truly that important to them. They need to put the bitch in check with the swiftness. They don't have to like what you collect, but if she doesn't let you continue to do something that brings you joy while harming no one else. Then she doesn't love you and you don't need her. Honestly, I couldn't care less if someone wants to look at me in a certain light because of what I choose to collect and how extensive the collection may be. It doesn't concern them and outsiders opinions of myself & what I do don't mean shit to me! |

And not to be rude but that is probably why she is your "ex". Too bad you didn't know she would be controlling like that when you met her. If you had she may have not been your "ex" now.

I don't think it is much of a leap of faith to guess that *most* action figure collectors fall somewhere on the danger zone side of the OCD spectrum, with true hoarding at the extreme end of the spectrum.
I'm not saying that every collector is OCD, but I am sure there is a distinct OCD spike among the AF collector community vs. the general population. Assembling/building a collection truly is an uncontrollable impulse for many collectors. I will wait and see how it is portrayed, but if the professionals on the show convince people to sell certain peripheral parts of their collections to better display their principle interests, reduce clutter, and save a strained relationship, then I can't believe I'd be against it. If they make all collectors out to be people with serious mental problems, then they will definitely have gone too far. I know I could stand to better organize some of my collection, especially considering how frequently I move. :/ There are some comic book stores I frequent that definitely wouldn't pass a fire code inspection. I can only imagine some people's clutter problems behind closed doors. Last edited by hrothgars; 07-30-2012 at 05:45 PM.. Reason: grammar |

I don't really care about the format... I'll just watch it for the toys and collectibles and stuff. I sat through Where the Heart is and Anywhere But Here just to see Natalie Portman... no way can this be worse than that. LOL.
I hope they make more toy/collectable shows... Toy Hunter on the Travel Channel... ...which was recently picked up I think, but has yet to air new eps. Adrianne Curry's Super Fans... ...which I think starts in September on YouTube. That other Syfy toy show whenever it airs... I will watch them all... at least the first ep. LOL. |

Okay, I finally made myself watch most of the episode. I couldn’t finish it. As I expected, this woman is forcing people to give up their items. She is totally going about it the wrong way. If she really wanted to help, and wasn’t so concerned about how she looks on camera, she would help these people pick out and sell the items on eBay, rather than being raped by dealers.
I sincerely hope this show DIES like all other things Syfy produces. |

I didn't think collection intervention was all that bad. I don't think it's "can't miss television" but it was alright. The woman helping sell their collections looks like she uses hand sanitizer after looking at nerd stuff, real out of place. Like all "reality" shows, I wonder how much is staged and how much isn't.

I sincerely hope this show DIES like all other things Syfy produces. Or the thing of "making" people get rid of their collection? Don't people ask to be on the show? No one can just walk in the door and say, "I am selling your collection!" without asking you first. This kinda reminds me of some house cleaning/organizing show from HGTV. The would pick a favorite item the wife had and a favorite item the husband had, like a pots and pans set and a model car set. Then they would put names in a hat or make them do something (I cant remember which, this was around 10 years ago) and whoever won got to keep their item and the loser and to personally throw it out. Or the winner picked the item after they won, don't know. But the wife always won and laughed while the item the guy had was being junked. Darn reality shows, STOP making fun of some poor guy getting rid of stuff he liked!!! And yes, I hope the whole syfy channel dies. They don't even play Star Trek anymore. Just those movies with the $2 budget.

Now as for this Collection Intervention show on Syfy, I watched it the other night, I was told about it over a month ago and have been really looking forward to it. I enjoyed it, but I do agree that it could possibly give a lot of people the wrong impression of us. Depending on which episode they see and how they view the people who are being filmed, it can go one of two ways. A.) they think...oh wow you have a toy/comic collection....your not only a geek but a hoarder as well! OR B.) WOW! your a toy collector? thats impressive, I saw a show about toy collectors...your collection must be impressive and expensive...I'd love to see it sometime. thats just my 2 cents.... don't forget the other Toy show on the travel channel. Toy hunters! |

And as far as Toy Hunters goes, it's a joke as well. Everyone involved is better served going to eBay instead of paying that schmuck a fee and getting lowballed. |
