Collection Intervention Series Premier August 14th On Syfy
Collection Intervention follows Elyse Luray, former Head of the Collectibles Department at Christie's, as she helps couples, families and individuals whose pop-culture memorabilia collections from Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica to Catwoman and Barbie have become damaging obsessions, creating financial strife and a huge strain on their lives. Elyse will create a strategy that helps these collectors curate and showcase their collection by assessing where the true value lies and then allow them to decide what's worth keeping and what they can sell. These massive collections include dining rooms stuffed with 30,000 comic books, a garage filled to the rafters with Catwoman memorabilia, and an almost uninhabitable house filled with Transformers. For each collector, parting with some of their collection may free up some much needed space in their home, provide cash windfall to get out of debt, or even just allow a couple to become more focused on their relationship. Oh good, cause we needed another hoarder reality show to make collectors feel self-conscious. Not to mention posibly putting a sour image on toy collecting in general.
I'm sure this is a real thing, but we sure as hell don't need a show aobut it. This kind of crap should have stayed as special episodes of afternoon talk shows. Not whole TV series. But I digress. Ef you SYFY, and your dumb postmodern hipster spelling. |

I actually want to see this show. There's a difference between collecting and hoarding. Hoarders save trash, garbage, anything and everything. I look forward to seeing some bad ass collections! Of collectibles that is, not some fat slobs collection of dead cats & used adult diapers!

There's a line between collecting as a hobby and a problem though. If its affecting your financial stability, your marriage or relationship, or making your living situation uncomfortable for yourself or others then there is a problem and you should probably think about downsizing. I'm already contemplating that I have two many comics when I only started collecting a year ago and only have one longbox, but it's like where am I gonna put all this shit eventually?

My main personal problem with stuff like this is as much as the show is going to try and say it's helping people, in the end it's just turning this sort of thing into a sideshow for couch potatoes to gawk at. |

This just puts a Bad Light on people who know how to collect. Just when you think you gained a few steps forward you get hit and pushed back.

I think if you collect , display or store your collectibles properly and you value how they are kept then it shouldn't be a problem. Like I see this guy who collects motor oil cans , I dont see the logic behind a collection of used old motor oil cans but he kept it in a way thats its properly displayed that for a person like me who has no clue about motor oils cans , appreciate it because it was well kept and displayed.

this show seems up my alley, as I'm comic collector *17+ Long Boxes full of comics which the wife doesn't mind as they are in storage @my Dad's* and toy collector with 600+ action figures, moc & loose of varying sizes but I know how to store my stuff in such a way that it doesn't get too cluttered, so far anyway. My wife loves me and my son loves me so in my mind there is no such thing as a bad light just people's prejudice |

I have a collecting problem. I don't have enough money to get more cool stuff. It's this damn "living" thing. If there was some way to cut that out, then I could buy loads more figures...stupid human body

More people will watch the 10th tremors movie |

I'll try to answer that question , when you collect theres actually a word to describe what youre collecting its called a collection. When you hoard something is there a word to describe what your hoarding ....... Hmmmm .........."trash"?

This show is just a bad idea. Thankfully it's on SyFy so it'll hopefully be cancelled soon.

I would compare this to a vegan going to a burger joint and not liking whats on the menu. You should have figured out what the place had by the title, DUH!
I know people that hoard junk, most of them are nuts! But I know people that collect stuff, they are all very normal. Hoarding is getting random junk and keeping it for no reason. Collecting is figuring out what you like/want and getting just that. Sure some collectors go overboard but that's not the norm. Maybe just the crazies you hang out with and the people on sy "crap" fy's show are the ones that do the overboard stuff. So did you learn this idea that collecting and hoarding is the same from them or are you like my Grandmother who thought I was too old for toys when I was 8? If you think collecting is bad or just for kids get out of here! We wont miss this dribble.

Not really interested in the show as a whole, but I wouldn't mind seeing that episode with the Transformers collection. If only to show my wife that I do have some restraint when it comes to my collecting habits.
