Comic-Con Special Edition Announced For San Diego on Thanksgiving Weekend
They really don't want people calling this San Diego Comic Con though.

I get that everyone needs to eat, and they have bills to pay. To do that they have to put on live events. But to do it on Thanksgiving weekend is a dick move.

This is partially selfish since I'm in San Diego haha, but I think that's a good idea. Get all the press etc that comes with Comic Con over a couple days, and don't entice people to travel. |

Well I personally see it as a good move since it'll mean less people actually traveling to San Diego, if they're still at all concerned about COVID in November.

I'm thinking more of people who are now going to have to work this event who are going to have to give up a big family holiday after having likely skipped out on it last year. For people working, the event doesn't begin Friday, it starts days before. I don't imagine many of those working can afford to fly to SD, set up, fly home for Thanksgiving, then fly back for the show. All during the busiest week of travel of the year.

The crowd is going to be there regardless. By putting it in San Diego, it automatically sets a level of expectation, even if they act like it doesn't.

I doubt there will me much in the way of attendance from across the country. You are abandoning your family on a major holiday that can be celebrated normally after a year of no family gatherings. |

I always thought of Thanksgiving as an overrated holiday, so this doesn't actually seem that off-putting to me. (Of course I've never gone, nor will I ever go, so this is all an 'armchair opinion' anyway...)

I mean it's a limited event, so people SHOULD be skipping it. If attendance is 25%, the "show" shouldn't still be at 100% of the normal stuff. If the show is at 50% I'd be surprised. |

It will be interesting to see how many attendees are from outside of the U.S. At least for them it won't be a holiday. Also people in the region might be able to pull it off.

International attendance might be down due to ongoing travel issues, but as for across the country attendance I think people are overestimating the draw of Thanksgiving dinner over getting to go to the first San Diego Comic Con and possibly the first major Con in general post pandemic, especially after a lot of fans just got an extra $1400 in their checking account. Tickets are going to sell out quick on this one. |

My stimi is long gone. It was devoured by a BBTS PO of Unicron, with some SoC and Diaclone purchases getting the leftovers. Edit: Forgot bout the delicious, and will be long awaited dessert of the Super7 Thundertank. Last edited by 80sforged; 03-30-2021 at 04:37 PM.. |
