So I am only five items away from having a complete MOC collection of Marvel Universe, including variants, packaging variants, gloss vs. matte variants etc. I've collected toys for many many years and this is the closest I've ever been to having a complete collection of any toy line.
But now, I think I'm giving up the quest. I just can't bring myself to pay the money that would be needed to get these five more figures, all but one of them repeats of stuff I already have (the five items I'm missing are light blue Bullseye, dark variant Galactus, SDCC Galactus, blue and yellow Goliath, and mail away Nick Fury). On top of the outrageous price for these last five items, Hasbro seems content to bring out new variants not just with new waves, but now with every revision case that comes out too (I'm looking at you Electro and Doc Sampson). So that's it. I think I'm done. I will continue to buy Marvel Universe because I love the figs, but I'm done trying to have a complete collection and hunt down every lame stand variant and packaging variant that comes around. Am I crazy to quit this close to the finish line or am I finally seeing the light? For that matter, I'm about ready to have a toy opening frenzy and put an end to keeping things MOC...

I can see why you are so annoyed with the prices of things, how you must aquire cetain things and so on. But hey man, you came this far, why stop now? You don't HAVE to have it right away do you? I am sure whoever has doubles, or just isn't interested in a variant figure would be more than happy to hook you up over the ark.

I could never be a completeist... I could never buy figs I don't want that's why... plus, I'm poor. LOL.
Nah, you are completely sane IMO. Just like when those people who attempt to climb Everest are only 100 feet from the summit, but there are only two hours of daylight left and a storm is coming... that's when you are supposed to go back down to basecamp and live to climb another day. |

Ha ha =) I say you're complete! IMO. Although I know that feeling, trying to complete the mail order and ordered a Nick Fury on that high price. Ugh.

I cherry pick the figs I want and I open them, so I say fuck the variants and open some toys.
I have six MOSC MU figs and they're all just doubles of figures I already have. For the $8 a piece these things are I just thought it would be fun to keep a sealed version.. maybe look at them with my future kid in a few years or something. I don't look at this stuff as good or bad investments and worry about value and what not. It's just a fun stupid little hobby.

thats why i made my own nick fury. I could never justify paying the high price when i used the same exact body from the henchmen 3 pack and a head from a three dollar toy

I WAS 100%. You know what made me retire? The Von Doom Exclusive. I broke down. I knew I couldn't keep up any longer. I didnt want to pay $170, but I didnt want to wait a year or whatever for the digital subscription.

So just 5 figures you say, but there are more waves to come so you cant really be 5 figures, its more of 5 figures for now till the next waves.
Its awesome to see a MOC collection but its not for me , I release my figures and set em free from their plastic cages. The only thing I keep MOC are the variants that I like.

this is exactly why I am not a completionist. I hunt for characters. I dont need 4 iron fists when I only want one specific one.
this is why I sell or trade my doubles. if I get somthing better, the old one goes out to fund a new one. anybody want a xmo astonishing wolvie? lol

The reason I keep going is that I enjoy trying to find all these figures at the best deal possible. $3 a figure? Awesome! $1.80? Even better! It makes the hunt more satisfying to know you have them for less than retail. Not that that will work with everything, or for everyone, but it's just what works for me. |

in all honesty, being one of those varient stand collector is stupid. not trying to be rude and all but come on, so wat if its a different name on the stand? or ouuuu his pic is faced differently, i really cant see why that would be a choice to get both, i throw out my card art, cuz at the end of the day u bought it for the figure not the cardboard. thats my opinion, but to each there own right?
continue getting MU but dont waste ur money on lil ridiculous "varients" cuz thats just another 10 dollars u could have spent on something else like gas food? cuz u have the original so forget the "varient" |
