Hello everybody!
Link Removed. - Toyark Staff Scorpion is a fan favorite Mortal Kombat character and I love the new design they created for him for the latest game. I also really liked the new figures Jazwares made, but they were lacking, especially in the accessory department. So I aimed to fix that. I gave Scorpion a realistic paint job, with a dark wash on his skin to give him shading, and dry brushing silver and gold on the apporpriate parts of his armor. Scorpion included the blade that goes on the end of his "Get over here!" chain weapon, but sadly didn't include a chain. So I took a length of small chain and attached it! Now he can throw it at his enemies and even wrap it around their necks and pull them toward him.I also threaded some thing jewelry wire through the entire length of the chain, so it's now completely and fully poseable! Next I went about recreating Scorpion's most fatal and famous attack. His fatality. To do this I took a movie Ghost Rider head and repainted it to look like a real skull, gave him yellow glowing eyes and made sure it fit on the ball joint of Scorpion's body. After this I felt it was still missing something to fully recreate his fatality attack. The FIREBALL. I knew it would be a challenge, but I wanted to fully recreate the attack so I did something I've never done before. I took some aluminum foil and made the basic "skeleton" of the fireball with this. Then I took a hot glue gun and smothered the foil with it. It took several glue sticks to accomplish this, but I got the foil completely covered with hot glue. Then I went about "sculpting" actual flame detail all over the fireball to make it look as realistic as possible. After it cooled I painted it with clear yellow and red making the colors blend as they would on real flame. Meaning yellow where the flame is hottest (the source, in this case being Scorpion's mouth) and red at the coolest part (the end of the fireball). To make sure the figure could be posed lookling like the fireball was coming from his mouth, I drilled a small hole that a figure stand could fit into (the stand came from a movie Green Goblin). Thanks for looking everybody! Last edited by Joe Moore; 01-08-2013 at 07:44 AM.. |

I love it! Just something as simple as the nice paint wash you've given him really gives this figure the "pop" he was missing right out of the package.

^^ Yeah, you should really think about ripping out the flames and sculpting on a bare skull.

Thanks guys! I thought about just giving him a bare skull, but all the artwork and game stills I've seen of Scorpion with the skull head had it covered in flames. I know in the first game it was just a bare skull, but this custom is based on the latest game and I see flames all over his skull.

Sweet drybrushing, looks really good. If I had any luck finding this damn guy, I had planned on doing the same thing with added chain to the spear. I was gonna put floral wire in there to bend and hold whatever pose/shape. Keep it dude!
