Okay, so this is the final version of the Animated Series Batmobile customised to my liking.
** warning - long post ** I was initially disatisfied with the fact that you couldnt fit a 7-inch figure in this beast. I was also annoyed at the color (or lack thereof); I felt that simply leaving it the way, with the color of the plastic, it made no justice to how beautiful the Batmobile actually is. To correct all the stuff I mentioned above, I had to basically take apart the Batmobile. 1) As I said above, I was very dissatisfied that the only figure that could (comfortably) sit in the Batmobile (BM) was the Animated Series Batman (or a similar size Batman). At the same time I thought that TAS Batman was proportionally incorrect to the size of the BM and that a larger figure would in fact be more accurate, comic-wise. As my preferred Batman, at the moment, is basically the Arkham Knight Bats (by DC Coll.) with another head, I wanted to be able to fit that figure in the BM. As you may know, the AK Batman is way over 6-inches and possibly bigger than 7-inches. To fit him, I opened two holes through the cockpit - at the extra space of 1-inch, there was nothing to obstruct him from sliding all the way in. 2) The paint job was a bit more of an elaborate process. Initially, I tried a clear laquer coat (twice), just to make it shiner. But the gloss was excessive and it made all the imperfections on the surface pop. I then tried a matte black paint (twice). This ended up looking "cheap" and really didnt make much difference from the original. Then I thought I could test out a Satin Black. Turned out to be the perfect choice as that particular color has the best of both the aforementioned choices. The last thing I touched upon was the paint of the "metallic" parts. I simply used a silver variation called Honda Blade Silver. And the result Comparison with in-show image and older version (random pic from Google cause I didnt have one at hand) : Well, thats it ! Hope you enjoyed this post. Will post more with Batman standing out of the BM when I get the chance Last edited by magma169; 03-20-2016 at 02:57 PM.. |

That looks amazing! It takes guts to take apart such an expensive piece like that and customize it. Did you spray on the silver or brush it on? It looks so smooth and clean! Also, how did you repaint to cockpit canopy? Does the windshield come out or did you tape it off?

Okay, onto the questions. 1) The silver is sprayed on, and then I applied a clear laquer coat to give it that glossy, smooth look. The tires are removable so that made things easier. The black in the spokes is hand-painted. 2) Haha, its quite interesting to mention that the canopy is in fact one whole separate, transparent plastic piece.... I initially thought that the windshield was a separate piece but all that DC did was use a thinner plastic for the canopy and just paint the top black. In anycase, yes I masked out the windshield with tape and then applied the paint layers as described in the OP |
