The gaps are just terrible at both the elbows and the crotch, no boot or thigh swivels, the pink eyes/puffy line work that so many if not all have, and the feet just look too small. Icons so far have been a line that I would give a recommendation of pass on. The QC, articulation, and so forth just aren't up to par. I've only bought one figure and even that one has issues when I tried to overlook their faults. |

The articulation is perfectline fine and the only quality control issue comes on the way Superman is put together. There aren't any other issues. This line easily puts every other DC line to shame. Is it perfect? No, but the line just started 6 month's ago. I'd rather deal with growing pains now than have the last 15+ waves of the line be nothing but quality control nightmares with constant excuses from a dummy figurehead who tries to rationalize the reasons for it.

As for the hips, I noticed that you can't tell they have gaps when you aren't standing him up straight, so that is nice since I barely ever will. What's wrong with the lower torso though? The feet are fine and the ankle joint works great. I do wish he came with flying hands, but oh well. Actually, Superman is really growing on me as I've spent more time with him than Aquaman or Harley right now. He has a lot of great poses he can be put in and the open hands really make him stand out for the Mattel crap that only had fists.

Don't know exactly what you'd call it but I guess the waist? Right above the belt on either side of the the ab joint is,it just looks weird to me.

Looks fine to me. Maybe it just looks weird because we are so used to seeing the ab crunch in the opposite direction?

The back-of-the-head overhang really drives me nuts though. I was iffy about the hip gaps but got over it. The positioning of the head on the neck really just looks weird though, like a factory defect.

I thought I was done with this line but then I saw it other day at local store. Picked up Harley and Aquaman. Really wanted Superman but the paint on his eyes was jacked up.

Yeah, DC has certainly gone against the norm and I think it is actually great. I really love the way the ab crunch and chest rotation work. Plus it is nice to not have to worry about the waist rotation being hindered by something on a belt.
As for the back of Superman's head, I didn't even notice that and I don't think it is a big deal because it allows his head to tilt upward more for flying poses. Something I did notice is that there are also things you don't see on these figures that some reviewers make a comment about unless you are looking at them enlarged. It's one of the reasons I'm not a fan of Jay C's reviews. He will nitpick some areas, but then ignore others and when you make a comment about it, he will say, "Well you can't expect every figure to be perfect." Anyway, some more pics:

I really love the Icons altogether like that, maybe I will get Aquaman and Hal Jordan afterall, though whenever I see him I think of this:

The sculpt and coloring are still overall better than Mattel's stuff. I never liked the way they made Superman's face look, whether it was classic or New 52. New 52 Supes looks like Xander from Buffy and the figures' skin tone often resembles peanut butter.

cause i beez quotin muhself....
I just read Justice League #50 and now the Darkseid and Grail make sense... **you know what would make sense now in those accessory packs...the baby...to complete this setup** and damn @ there being SIX MONTHS in between time that figures were released... Quote:
It's not a reboot exactly, it seems to be sort of smashing the old 52 and New 52 universes together. New 52 stuff is still canon, but the old characters and characterizations are coming back as well? I've onyl read Rebirth #1 so far so I'm not entirely sure what's going on.

and i REALLY liked the Rebirth one shot...it's really kinda like them saying ...we can retcon till our hearts desire...BUT..there is always a story behind it. So retconning doesn't make things a moot point..it DID happen..just characters may not realize it happened....Enjoyed the Wally West story there. Really liked the twist at the end(the culprit) that I'd assume may be the merging of universes.

Damn, that just reminded me I meant to get the first JL Darkseid War trade when I went to the comic store the other day.
The Rebirth one shot is definitely a good read, and its a great wy of reconciling continuity issues across reboots and undoing a lot of the issues people had with New 52.

So DCC has just announced a JL Rebirth box set, but I can't tell if it is an Icons set or not because the figures are clearly the Icons, but it says they are each 6.75 inches.

It's the same seven pack they already announced but with different paint apps, disappointing. I would assume the 6.75" is a mistake, I doubt they would go to the expense of making new molds for all these figures only slightly larger.

I'd love to get that Batman, but I'm not buying the set just for him.
