I am reading Batman and Detective (haven't read through 4 yet, its on the table) and I am really enjoying them. Who else enjoys them?
Be Warned there are Spoilers I like the Owl Court storyline playing through Batman with the fact that Bruce Wayne wasn't invited or Batman never found them. The portrayal of older Alan Wayne as loose in the head was neat and I like the mystical background in it. Of course the Face Stearlers in Detective have gotten my attention. I think it will keep you jumping I just can't figure out why Joker let them take his. I do like a good Joker story so I had hoped for a bt more but the ideas are flowing and that is all that matters. Justice League Batman is pretty good, I hope he takes ovber pretty soon. I know Hal and the others look him as the weakest link so he needs to step up and prove his worth. Of side note Aquaman did come off as badass in his appearance. Any thoughts? |

She did look nice. I tried all the titles but just stuck with Batman and Detective. I just finished Detective 4 and it was a good issue. I did like the way they wrapped up Dollmaker and the last face was good. Wonder where it shall lead from here.

I have so far enjoyed the first 4 issues of New 52 Batman and will stick with it so long as they don't kill it by somehow managing to reveal the Talon as actually being Lincoln March which would be so terribly predictable of DC for me.

I haven't read much Batman in the last few years, while the name sounds familiar who is Lincoln March?

All I know about him is based off this New 52 series, of which he is currently running for mayor of Gotham.

I think sometimes they introduce these characters under the pretense that they have these vast histories with preexisting characters when in fact they are brand new.
I felt the same way about Morgan in Batman and Robin only to find out he was introduced months prior in a mini I didn't read.

What they need to do is make up a few back ground people and let them sit to be used later for whoever needs them. Would be a great way to get them out there. When you read most books (Spidey/Supes etc) the new face shows up and is almost always the bad guy some how.

Just read issue #5 on digital from my phone and without spoiling story I will warn that what I am about to say may be an experience spoiler...
The intent of this book is to make the reader share in Batman's mental frustration and apparent breakdown. While this will be immediately noticeable in print, let me tell you first hand that this shit drove me (pardon the pun) Batshit crazy! I damn near tossed my phone in frustration, strained my eyes and neck trying to orient the image in a way that was readable. Because this didn't happen until the middle of the story it was completely unexpected to me and i really just thought it was an App malfunction which is very plausible and more surprising than thinking your book had a misprint. Take it from me and trust that if you were casually interested in this series before and aren't much of a collector, this issue is best experienced digitally as you will get the full effect the writer intended. If you buy the print and there is a digital option included with it (doubt it, but just in case) read the digital first the print. Wonderful issue and a reminder of why I love comics. Best in the series so far for me. 5 stars!

You are so right it was a good book. It must have been hard reading it on the small screen. Every issues has impressed me and this only wanted to make me read more. It is going to be a long wait for the next issue.

Besides, I read it in print also at my buddy's place and digital on my laptop. I've lost track of how many times I've read this now.

Digital is only something I would recommend if
a) you have money to burn b) you don't collect single issues in print already c) you want to read a story and can't wait for the TPB or HC d) don't have a friend with these stories in print who will let you read them e) want unlimited access to reading a particular comic series but do not want to invest in the physical storage space in house to own them Consider all of the above before venturing. I personally prefer paper in my hand...however categories a&e is the deciding factor for me. I still get HC and TPB. However, I only get them if the story is phenomenal and i simply must own it in hand.

I like dead trees over electrons but have so I should skip. I liked how Marvel had the big list of books but I buy the ones I like even if I find a trade. I own a bunch of Marvel Masterworks but I am trying to get the issues

Please tell me the series gets better. It wasn't nearly as enjoyable as other #1 issues.

If DC did this, I would definitely buy a subscription. Instead I'm limited to buying only single issues of only the characters I feel like reading. I will not pay for a series that I'm mildly interested in. Come on DC, up your game! If DC went the digital unlimited route and offered a subscription on Jason Todd 6" Red Hood figure... Can you imagine what a killing they'd make?! They'd nab me for sure.

I prefer owning a hard copy of something I really enjoy. Reading shit on the computer just isn't the same...although I do A LOT of it.

I do like the Marvel way and it did help me read a few books I wouldn't normally get but the ones I liked I picked up. Even the awful Alpha Flight Vol3. I like Alpha

That's what makes me think there's great potential with Digital. It will never fully replace print, there will always be a place for print, specifically with respect to collectors. Digital is a wonderful "tool".

I think there used to be threads for all these you just made...did those get deleted during the last update? There was some good discussions it would have been a shame to have lost them.

Merged. Back on topic.
Really like the first arc. Not sure if the Owls have been touched on in the past, but I don't remember them. It's a nice new piece of Batman history for me, something that can be a part of long term Batman lore (if it isn't already). I'm assuming even if it is, that this will flesh their background out for modern times. Plus, the issue where all the panels were upside down or backwards - reading that on your phone when the screen auto rotates drove me crazy, which is what was happening to Batman. Thought that was a cool way to use the new media to drive the story. |
