i just watched a video with the guy that owns Mile High Comics and the question of Insurance came up- he said that only the cover price of any given issue could be considered for insurance purposes- (i imagine high value books with proof of amount paid- like the Amazing Fantasy #15 sort of books get special consideration) but if that's a standard for collectibles I bet $20 per figure is going to be a good starting point... great question.... i would talk with my Home Owners Insurance people, find out how they value collectibles- then get back here and let us know.

Customs would be difficult to Value as they are not in Original Factory conditions. We know that once a figure is OOB it's value decreases, much the way a car does when it leaves the Lot. That said Figures can and do get dusty in MIB condition (I've seen it). In truth Anybody's guess.

Repost: Just need a few more opinions. Thanx.

A few years ago, when we bought our new house, I talked to my agent about insuring my collection. I don't remember the exact lingo, but it boiled down to a max of 50% of MSRP if opened, if the figures were in like new condition. For unopened, they recommend getting an actual appraisal, if you want to get market value. Otherwise, 100% MSRP.

for the standard figures as they are (non Customs) I'd say 50% less the value of Mint in Sealed Box.. Customs worthless (Please understand I do not mean this to sound harsh) you took the figure as it was, painted it, changed the head, redid the body, and otherwise destroyed the original figure. It has no value anymore.

e.g kenm2474s batman figure with the dirt bike is a figure you might not get from a Normal DC collectibles figure unless they made it from the movie about that storyline i.e the dark knight returns armour was seen in Batman V superman so they made a classic and movie version. That's another reason they cost more they are 1 of a kind, unless the customiser makes molds etc. Last edited by warmachine6; 12-27-2016 at 04:28 PM.. |

Ah correction , you know how to paint it, you know how to change the head, you know to redo the body. You created a new piece of art. You're right that figure has lost its original pricing but your paying for an artist's time and skill which makes a custom figure worth more, varying on the skill , detail and paint apps, the artist is using figures as a base to make their dream figure or a client's one.

Also, I could be wrong, but I think Mattel is saving most of their DC stuff for tomorrow, probably after a panel.
