Maybe a stupid question, but I've been really busy and haven't been pying as much attention to news and announcements as I would like. So maybe I've missed it. My appologies if so.
But, aside from a few figures, what do we know about this new subscription club Mattel announced for DCUC? Have they told when/where we can join, yet?

To me to pay $30.00 to join a club to maybe get the one or two figures I'm interested in, it's not worth it.

I really want this club to work out, I still want them to finish the classic characters instead of doing reboot characters and this club may be the only place for them to do it.

If you go to www.mattycollector.com you can sign up for the club subscription now. All the details will be there on the Club Infinite Earths page.
There's no guarantee that the club will go forward though, they said they need a minimum number of people to sign up to move forward. |

Wih the pain my friend has gone through with Matty for the MOTU line I really don't like this. They want to lock you in BUT don't want to tell you what your getting. Of the first 3 figures only one is a MUST have for me, so at $23 ea. (after shipping) I would be speanding $66 for one figure. I'll take my chances on sale day.

For those that want only one or two of the figures shown, you could always sell off the figures that you don't want.

Don't really want to take the chance that EVERYONE is trying to unload the same figure every month.

No one here should join this club just for figures. If you do, whatever, you must be really for it for some reason then. But these figures should be available to EVERYONE for a FAIR price. 30 USD just to JOIN? C'mon, that's a little much. I personally am unhappy by this. So seriously people, do NOT sign up for this if you're against the idea. You are only losing money.
DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU HATE THE IDEA When the M3T4L V1KING speaks, the people damn well better listen. Last edited by M3T4L V1KING; 07-26-2011 at 02:41 PM.. |

"With the all-new 2012 Club Infinite Earths, the DC Universe becomes part of the Mattel subscription family for the first time. While you'll still find 6" figures at retail, MattyCollector.com will be the only place to get the most fan-demanded and true collector characters!!"
LOL!!!!! What a joke. Fans WANT to see their favorite characters at retail! It's about the thrill of the hunt! The feel of ripping that figure off the peg, looking around with an evil grin to other people wanting that figure. "This club is the result of requests from you, the fans. In order to make it happen, we need to reach a certain number of subscriptions" LOL!!! AGAIN! What fan in their right mind would want some of their favorite figures to be only available online for a stupid subscription fee to drag you in! I hope you are all wise enough to not subscribe to this BS. I love my DC figures as much as my Marvel figures and you don't see Hasbro taking dumps on fans. Damn I'm going to be sending Mattel so much hate mail. You know the sad thing too? Almost all the figures use the same god damn body mold! I can look past that of course, but damn...excuse my french but...What.The.Fuck. Pull your head out of your ass Mattel, seriously.

Pull your own heads out of your asses.
If the club doesn't get enough subscriptions to get started, these figures are NOT going to be folded into retail. No matter WHAT happens DCUC is getting retailored/retooled/rebranded/possibly canceled after Wave 20, probably to reflect the DC "Reboot" that starts this year. This is a done deal whether the subscription thing takes off or not. Face facts: DCUC was already struggling like hell at retail. This club is offering the chance to get figures we otherwise wouldn't get AT ALL. Not taking figures off of retail shelves to sell on Mattycollector. Oh, and for those of you that don't want to join the club? With the exception of the subscription exclusive figure (Which is what your $30 "subscription fee" gets you, so it's not "paying for nothing") all the figures are available to the general public at Mattycollector.com on their sale days. First come, first serve, at $15 a pop...no more than you'd pay at retail. Last edited by Jmacq1; 07-26-2011 at 07:53 AM.. |

It's just that either you join the club and pay for every figure or you don't. If you don't, you have a say on what you buy and what you get, on the other hand you may be paying even more for that one interesting character.
I'm not saying it's a dumb idea, just that I personally don't like it. Even though there's a good chance it'll be either this or nothing at all. |

Looks like I've missed a lot of discussion today, but I really don't see what all the hub bub is about. This club is hardly any different from the other collectors clubs and con exclusive gimmicks that are commonplace.
To me $255 is a bit much to commit only knowing the four figures that have been confirmed to date (Atrocitus, Jay Flash, Starman, and one of the horrid lineup of oversized club exclusive figures: Shaggy Man, Rocket Red, BL Swamp Thing, & Metron) and the future releases of a revised Sinestro Corps Sinestro & White Lantern Barry Flash, but the worst anyone can do on these things if they are made will be to break even. Keep the figs you otherwise wouldn't have any chance of getting and then sell the others at whatever price the market will provide. I presume anyone who does will make more on the deal than the price per fig less those you keep for yourself. The aftermarket is a b*tch, and these figs won't get made any other way. I promise you that $255 hurts me as much as it would most people, but it will all come back around to you. If a credit card is your only option, I wouldn't recommend anything with an interest rate of more than 10% (you have to draw the line somewhere), but if they plan to release these in reduced quantities, there will be a market for them. Keep the ones you like, sell the ones you don't. Last edited by hrothgars; 07-26-2011 at 04:18 PM.. Reason: typos |

Keep the ones you like, sell the ones you don't. The problem with reselling the figures is, likely the ones that will be easy resells (IE, go for what they're worth, or even slightly higher) are likely characters that will have the widest appeal. Acrocitus and Jay Garrick will be hard to buy, and easy to sell. I can't see Starman,, Metron, or Shaggyman being easy to unload. Black Lantern Swamp Thing, and Rocket Red fall into an ambiguous area. Speaking from purely personal opinion, if they make it out there, I would want them. But if they never got made, I'd not miss them. But I don't want the ones I listed earlier, at all. Then there's the fact that this is likely the only way we'll ever see Larfleeze, Arisia, Saint Walker, Indigo, or Brother Warth (Oversized).

Yes I know many loved them all, I did not yet had to buy them to finish C&Cs. They filled waves with crap characters that didn't sell at retail so many stores didn't carry them. Did I want a Batman in every wave? Sure, just not the SAME (all-stars) Batman. Dick Grayson Batman Jason Todd Batman Golden Age Batman Red Rain Batman KC Batman Superman? Golen Age (E-2) Superman Silver Age Superman KC Superman Justice Lords Superman ( they did superfriends why not JL) Robot Superman There is ten figures, one of theses per wave would have put a Sups/Bats in each wave for two years and many collecters would have gotten them. What did we get? The same Superman over and over, hell we got Barry FIVE times yet no Wally in 20 waves. Yet now they say " trust us to give you what you want" I just have to look at waves 17 &18 and say no thank you. |

They have said that the "reboot" line will have BOTH new DC and old DC stuff. They are just using the bait of the ones we've always asked for to get people to buy the sub. And $15 plus shipping, right now a lot of people are saying$17-$18 is their limit at retail. Will I try to get Jay on sales day? Hell yeah, but I'm not paying $23 for Starman.

There's no reason to believe that nothing characters like Tyr will end up being the majority of the club run, while figures like Speedy II, and Larfleeze will be the rare exceptions.

I think they would really need a good plan of what figures they will have in this sub for me to consider it more. So far from what they've shown, one figure out of several is not reason enough yet. If it turns out the rest of the figures are in fact the likes of Larfleeze, Saint Walker, or guys like Conner Kent or Jason Todd Red Hood, then I would go for it.
Mainly it's just my lack of interest in Jay Garrick and Starman (especially Shaggy Man, seriously, wtf). I mean, in the back of my head I know that if I sign up and I get these guys chances are they'd be the same neat figures we've been getting (hell, I was really surprised when I got Eclipso on a whim, I really enjoy him), and I'll bet Rocket Red will be an extremely cool figure, it's just the characters mean next to nothing to me. I guess I'll just wait to see if they ever give us a full on lineup for me to look through. So far it doesn't look worth it. |

On the site, Mattel claims that this Subscription Club was born from the requests of fans. And honestly, I was very interested (mostly due to the inclusion of Atrocitus). But reading up on everybody's reactions to whole thing kinda threw me in a loop. So fans really don't like it?
I just need to know where Mattel explicitly states that these figures aren't coming to retail (DCUC as a whole). I thought they were just assimilating the "Relaunch" figures into this line. I'm not really seeing this Club go forward though, their "Thermometer" is barely near 20% of subscriptions sold.... |

One thing I'm curious about is the exclusive voting figure. We can pick from Shaggy Man, Rocket Red, BL Swamp Thing, and Metron. I'm wondering if we aren't going to get all four anyway seeing as they have three other oversized figures. I can't help but think that anyway.
And do we think by oversized they mean C&C sized figures or what. |
