An older custom that needed it's head painted. Banshee in 275 school uniform. I had bigger plans for this one ie bigger flight cape and the ability to put down his arms. Since he can't put his arms down should probably have his shout going. Also I probably could have went lighter with his hair but nitpicking aside I think he turned out pretty well.

Me too I'd planned on adding hair coming from the helmet but there's not much room to work with and looks like it would hinder movement.

Mary Jane, my most annoying custom to date! I spent hours and hours... and hours, trying to get her eyes to match. She may have had 30 botched left eyes before I got one to be close enough to move forward with the custom, frustrating. Close inspection she looks a lil' rough in the face but at arms length she looks really good

I will do my best to critique these, however I feel the camera quality seems a bit shoddy for me to do so properly so I'll keep it to the point.
Vulcan appears to have some paint build-up on his right shoulder, could be bad picture quality however other than that, he seems solid. Ghostrider.. I like the flaming bike, but I personally feel you went a bit glue gun happy. Too much of a good thing and all. Good application, just overboard. Bamfing Nightcrawler, one question: Can he be removed? A+ Banshee looks good, the hair looks a bit brown, but good. Moleoid.. I will let this one slide as I cannot complain. It's a moleoid. Mary Jane, this one bothers me. I agree the eyes look odd, but I just don't see this figure as Mary Jane. Black Knight, A+. Keep it up! The Custom Fig Critic. |

Pretty much yeah. A lot of the time he sported that mullet. To me it just looked like bushy hair. I wanted to make him as close as possible but he was drawn differently from comic to comic.. Sometimes with the mullet, sometimes with brown gloves, sometimes his boots were different.. etc etc.

I've had a lot of fun with the glue gun! I paint the glue and you can use whatever will give ya the look ya want. Right now I have two brands for clear paint. Tamiya which is very clear and glossy. The second is Vallejo Model Color which isn't glossy at all and not as clear.

Also in regards to the camera, its an 8.0 megapixel phone and captures flaws really well. I'll post a custom on ebay, go over it with their microscope tool and find flaws I didn't notice before. Also because the camera is very unforgiven the figures most of the time look way way better in hand The phone's white balancing is ok but not that great. I work under some really ugly lights one being an ugly orange pink look to it so I've been using my magnifying lamp which seems to be better but makes some colors like orange and yellow look like dayglow. I could use flash photography but I personally think it's the worst choice for photographing figures. So.. if there's shoddyness to the camera it's in it's ability to correct bad lighting. Anyway on the the figures. Vulcan - There is. The red I'm using bleeds so I brush on a dullcoat and I've recently learned that dullcoat likes to be thinned down as much as paint does. His head could be touched up better too. Ghost Rider- I thought it was a great idea when I was doing it but came to the same conclusion as you. I definitely overdid it with the flames. Still.. it's grown on me and I've made a few other ones trying different variations with just flame tires and while I personally think they've looked better I like the overdone one the best. Nightcrawler - Yes he is removable. I'd like to make some variations on it because I've made two so far and both with a similar pose. I'd like to do one where he's crunched more into a ball like how he used to be drawn. Banshee - I have no good answer for this. I'll have to look at him in normal daylight. I think my rooms lighting might make it look browner while my lamp light makes it look too orange. Moleoid - This is another one where the color varies quite a bit depending on the lighting. This is a custom that more than anything just requires some eyes slapped on it. As easy as that may sound, it gave me a lot of grief trying to get those eyes proportionate and also with the symmetry of the lines. I think I got to the point where I said this is close enough. Mary Jane - Well it is the same head Hasbro used! I was talking to a friend about her who told me he basically hated it and that the outfit didn't make sense. My thought process was basically I looked at the figure and felt it had a fashion feel to it, something out of the ordinary that a model might wear. I had tried a few color schemes before settling on the one I used which was basically a blend of the Hasbro black and brown with Spider-man's blue and red. I personally think it turned out awesome and the flaws you see are virtually non existent in person...with exception of her head.
Her head. First off.. I don't think I'm ever going to produce beautiful faces. It's gotten me so frustrated that I don't feel like it's really worth my time or effort. I probably spent 2 full days on the MJ head alone. I got one eye surprisingly decent and spent the rest of the time trying to get her other eye to match. The cycle basically went like.. paint a white eyeball.. paint black outline.. line was too fat.. try to scrape it away thin.. scrape too much. add more black.. black ran into her white eye.. add more white.. the white smeared this would repeat over and over.. several times i would be happy with the eye then time to add the iris and pupil.. the green was too thin and filled the whole eye.. time to start over.. or the iris was fine but the black dot was too big. I kept trying to fix one mistake or another and the paint would build up to the point where there was no other choice but to scrape it all off clean it up with some paint thinner and start over. One time i got it where I was satisfied and decided to add dullcoat in case any flesh tone ran into the eye while I was fixing that.. because that had happened to me and I had to start over.. so putting on the dullcoat I screwed up the eye again and had to start new. Well that's just the short story of it. I finally got it to the state it is now.. a bit rough and with one eye slightly bigger than the other. I've seen worse from Hasbro. With that said she really doesn't look bad in person. If I hold her up close to my face I see the roughness, but even then I'm not really disappointed; At arms length her face stops looking rough. I really dig the figure though. I can see how you and others might not see it the same way, it's a bit out there.. but to me is very MJ and the head fits better on that body than on the Marvel Universe one! Anyway I appreciate the input |

Two other Ghost Rider bikes I did. This first one is my latest one. It's more comic like and the colors on the bike blend really well. I left black on the bike intentionally but I'm not crazy about how it turned out and if I try again the bike will just be yellow and orange.
This second one is my favorite of the two. It looks more like an orange bike with flame tires and it's gorgeous to look at. |

This is an older group of customs I did. The paint apps are a lil rough but a pretty cool set just the same and look good in hand. I never got around to making a Beast since I didn't see any combos that I liked. I made Cyclops the tallest and skinniest basically to fit his nickname "Slim." It works well for me also because he was such a cry mongering wimp early on. Angel is a spider-man base but with more muscular arms. Marvel girl's chest ended up enormous which wasn't intentional. Happy accident if you are into that. Iceman was made with some DC figure. I thought it would be cool for him to be the smallest since he was the youngest. |

Dust.
I think she turned out well. I made this sand stand but I think I need to work on it still. It's the first time I attempted sand and it looks really cool but as far as the paint app goes it reminds me of a peanut butter dog crap. |

These are all great.
I love the glue gun effects you’re creating. I think the motorcycle looks cool completely covered. |

Very cool! I like the Vulcan, Goblin (great idea to make a stand out of the smoke), and the Dust! Great job visually representing powers and FX'S!! I'd like to see what you could do with a Vulcan vs Blackbolt scene straight out of the conclusion of War of Kings! Or something made up like Sandman vs Dust...it'd be interesting to see the different hues of the sand based powers pitted against one another!! Cool stuff man!

Ty for the comments darkart. I made some tornadoes you might like. As for me, I'm not crazy about how they turned out but I like 'em well enough and they get storm up in the air.
TheBlueMarvel - Ty, I haven't read War of Kings yet so I'm not familiar with it. I'm not crazy about my dust cloud. I think it looks neat but the coloring seems wrong. I like your ideas though; It's definitely fun to think about. Last edited by Diabolical; 02-19-2014 at 11:34 AM.. |

Leech. So I had Bilbo left over after making a moleoid from Gollum and figured why not.

Strong guy. My plan was to make a modern Strong Guy with the orange and black outfit with the jacket. It ended up being a pain. The jacket I had for him didn't fit well so I shaved down his shoulders.. then decided to scrap the jacket and just go with the orange and black so I had to resculpt the shoulders and I think they were better the first time around. Next I would have had to modify the head and I really didn't feel like painting the tiny white line separating the back and orange so I figured I'd just go this route. I need to match the head a lil better but it's basically done. Hopefully if Hasbro makes a strong guy it will be the orange and black so I don't have to feel the sad.

Modern Baron Zemo - I originally painted him all black but thought the purple looked cool. What do you guys think?
