I saw these at Toy Fair in person, but at the time they were not allowed to be photographed.

Another cool angle to these figs is that the bases will connect. So if you get Gordon, Catwoman - you can combine the bases into a building front with fire escape etc.

Odd choice of three; no Bullock, Fish, Falcone etc.
Now a Bruce & Alfred 2-pack like with Thanos & Death is a set I'd buy

So... these are not done by DCC?

Penguin and Catgirl look okay, but that doesn't resemble Gordon's actor at all to me.

I agree, she'd be the one I'd want.

Penguin doesn't look right either to me. He should have a more pointy chin with a skinny face and much darker hair, black hair would be good. Selina looks really good! I may pick that one up.
What bothers me most about Gordon is the articulation. Particularly in the legs. Looks like he's wearing knee pads! The thigh swivel makes his leg look like it's gonna fall off. These remind me of Funko's series 1 GOT figures, that's not a good thing. The Penguin needs extra attention. He's such a popular character, honestly he makes the show IMO. They should push out a better likeness than this.

What's sad about these sculpts is that the actors (or at the very least, Penguin) had their heads scanned for these. I remember when Hardwick let that fact slip while Robin Lord Taylor was on Talking Dead as a guest.

You'd think they would be more accurate.

Well yeah, but that's a problem with loads of figures these days - the actor does a load of stuff with the toy manufacturer, but the likeness ends up looking like sh*t

That face scanning is the biggest joke in this industry I swear. It almost goes with the term "waterproof " or "scratch proof" lol Companies like to say "exact likeness" such bull crap! McFarlane, Funko, and Gentle Giant are notorious for that. Diamond, words of advice, ditch this technology! Look at high res photos of the subject, then sculpt it. Stay old school, the results are more rewarding. Pick good photos too, with expression. Ever notice that all the scanned faces have no expression? or mouth open? It's a weird blank face lol

These will be a wait and see type product for me, I am hot and cold with the show, it has moments of greatness and causes much frustration. They will have to look good in person, and the show will have to be on an upswing.

McFarlane Toys seems to make the best use of the technology. Right from the beginning, those Walking Dead sculpts were great. It's the paintwork that has always dragged those items down. When customizers took it upon themselves to repaint series 1 Daryl's face, it was amazing how accurate the sculpt actually was compared to how the retail version looked.

But yeah, in most cases these companies should stop using it. I have to wonder if DCC uses it for their Arrow and Flash figures. Flash looks exactly like Grant Gustin - but he also has the extremely blank, lifeless kind of expression like you mentioned. If any character should have had a smile, it's him.

But yeah, now that attention was brought to Penguin's chin, it doesn't seem like a purchase to me. It was "meh" enough at first glance. I don't know. If Gordon and Catgirl's display bases are good, I'll probably buy them for that reason and try to sell the figures.

Yeah, McFarlane makes some good use of it. "Exact likeness is too far though" It should be an illegal term IMO.

Glad you see my point about the blank faces.
If you look at figures that NECA has made, they're likenesses are sometimes spot on. None of that "facial scan" technology is used, trust me. They look at high res pictures, and trust the sculptor to create there vision. Look at that Bill paxton Aliens figure for example. He has this really scared expression. That's what he looked like most of the time! His expression makes the likeness that much better. With a blank face he would've looked weird.
These blank face figures are turning into something out of "Invasion of the Body snatchers" lol.

You know what it is with Penguin, I've just worked it out; his nose is too small. Extend that nose into more of a beak and it'd look much better

Regarding scanning people's faces, could it be that when the scanned model/data is scaled down drastically, the details and therefore resemblance to the original person become reduced? I've always wondered about this.

That sounds like it has some validity to it. If everything is left to the computer alone then I could see key details getting booted in favor of keeping the general shape roughly present.

I read in a Hot Toys forum that they have the actors do blank faces so that they use fewer facial muscles for this reason. Idiot proofing a sculpt I guess.

Gotham is an ok show but I don't think any of the characters are toy worthy. I'll take a Det. Joe West figure any day of the week over these.
