I know there is an Ebay section...but this is a question on Ebay not selling items on Ebay.
My question is this: Don't people price check on Ebay? For example, saw a Superman "Trinity" figure on Ebay for $19, then again for $25, then again for $49. But then saw the exact same figure for $180. Now....I'm fairly new to Ebay but I can't calculate why anyone would purchase a figure for $180 when obviously they can get it for much cheaper. This is just one example...seen this several times for different items. Do people post items on Ebay at crazy prices hoping to snag someone who just gets the first one they see? I just don't get it.... (Note I don't get other things as well...like Composite Superman is $49 on Ebay but $90 on Amazon, who would buy the Amazon one?). I think some sellers definitely don't do their homework and look at what the market will bear…especially by checking the sold listings to see what price people are actually willing to pay. But there are also situations, where they may have listed the item at a time when there where no other competing listings (so they value the item at a premium), then when competitors come along and list, they charge less to grab sales.
With toys (and some other things) you also have KOs and Bootlegs which usually are priced much cheaper than the official. Some sellers don't make it very clear that they're selling KO's, so it can get tricky when comparing prices. Then there are sellers (who are also collectors) that are trying to recoup the price they originally paid (sometimes aftermarket prices), even though that item may have dropped in value over time. Finally, there are just sellers that are completely unrealistic or maybe aren't in a rush to sell, so they wait for a buyer that isn't doing their homework. There are probably more possibilities, but those are off the top of my head. |

JLA Classified figure I'm looking at - $34.99 on Walmart (thru 3rd party seller), $31.99 on Ebay, one listing on Amazon for $29.98 (plus shipping)....but another entry on Amazon for $127.70 (plus $10 shipping).
What??? Who is going to pay $100 more than anywhere else for the same figure?? |

arent there some rules and restrictions or bonuses when selling?
Maybe some time people put up ridiculous prices to meet requirements rather than actually making a sale. |
