I grew up on Marvel and DC so my Top Ten is fairly straight-forward:
1. Cyclops 1A. Superman 3. The Joker 4. Captain America 5. Harley Quinn 6. Hal Jordan / Green Lantern (Thanks to Geoff Johns) 7. Bucky Barnes/ Winter Soldier / New Captain America 8. X-23 9. Dick Grayson / Robin / Nightwing / Red Robin 10. Marvel's Ares Honorable mentions: Hit Girl, Human Torch, Daredevil, The Flash, Magog, Power Girl, Deadpool, Spider Man, Rorschach |

10. Kyle Raynor Green Lantern
The ring needs to be in an artists hands. Hal and Guy are okay, but a bit tiresome. Hal was cool while being a villian though. Kyle having the ring works perfectly for me though, an artist is much more creative with his constructs. Ditto to John Stewart and having been an architect. 9. Hal Jordan Parallax. One of my all time favorite villians, mostly because of how understandable it was with how the guardians interrupted his moment of reaching closure in emerald twilight. He was lost in a see of grief because of the psychological damage that interuption did. It's a shame it ended the way it did with one massive yellow demon retcon. While I dig the sentient cores of the spectrum, I just wish it was handled better instead of being so insulting to the original material that really pushed a good reason behind why, being the guardians' arrogance and lack of emotional understanding. 8. DarkHawk I've always been fond of this costume and the possibilities it presented, I had just always wished it had a better origin. Finally with war of kings I had gotten my wish. DarkHawk finally has a cool origin, and more versatility and potential in his armor... Yet now they still don't do anything with him. T_T 7. Nova Prime Ever since he got the prime upgrade, I've been happy with his design. I've loved the previous incarnations but the design always irked me a shade as being dated. This new design though has been wonderful. I can't wait to see how this character continues to grow after everything he's been through. Just wish figures of him besides the lone minimate reflected these duds. 6. Anti-Venom I love the costume, the name not so much. The potential is here for a lot, but instead all his issues just seem to retread original spidey material like the sin-eater but with a new name. He's become essentially a venom turned spawn like character and it's a shame for the potential he has to grow and become something unique while still frightening. 5. Doom 2099 To me this will always be the pivotal Dr. Doom. He's everything doctor doom should be without any of the corny attire. This is one dr. doom who's been streamlined to reflect the genius he is, and the cunniving politician he represents. It's a shame he's fallen away to obscurity, I would have enjoyed seeing him replace the current Dr. Doom and taking on the 616 universe as he did the 2099 world. This was a capable Dr. Doom that didn't get surprised by the unorthodox changes a hero might undertake to beat him, he even calculated for the offbeat chances of heroes doing the complete opposite of their nature, or what was dentrimental to their home. (Cough* black panther *cough) 4. X-Nation 2099 These kids were the 2099 version of Generation X/DV8/Gen 13/Academy X. A title that was very intrigueing and fun to read, but sadly had a shortlived run as the 2099 world caved in on itself. It's a shame they also didn't get thrust into the 616 verse in some final story arc or mis-adventure. I'd have loved to see how these characters developed and grew into the heroes they were destined to become. Instead, like Doom 2099, they'll fall to the wayside. The art itself here was also a large draw. 3. Ironman and Rescue Being a big fan of technology as I am, it's no wonder I enjoy Tony Stark's adventures. I love the possibilities within his comic, the constantly evolving suits of armor, and the application of the suits themselves from form to function. The only thing slightly disheartening about it? Rescues design feels off. Like it's just iron man but with a woman inside. It'd be nice if she had gotten a suit more original and fitting to herself, and less a carryover from the iron brigade ultimo issues. 2. The Knight Sabers. Yes those 4 from Bubblegum crisis fame, thanks to adam warren doing a brief oneshot of them, I can include them here as one of all time favorite armored heroes. These girls wore agile suits that enhanced their natural attributes. No jet boots and aerial combat, this was all about speed, power, and efficiency. Throw in cool bikes, and technological terrors with corporate secret acts and deeds, and this was probably what I'd call the pivotal armored hero. Taking the tech of ironman but in an opposite direction that's endearingly more fun. 1. X-23 Gee, who didn't see this one coming? She's outright one of my favorite characters. I love the pinnochio essence here, the depth of the psychology and science the creators took, and more. She is the yin to wolverine's yang. His mowgli and caged animal schtick is his alone, whereas X-23 is someone who was raised, trained, and created to be solely an assasin, cold, clockwork, methodical and strategic to wolverine's berserker rage. Even in the face of science and purpose the facility gave her, she grew into her own as a child. While still coping with what she's done, she's by far more than simply a 'wolverine clone'. So much so to the extent she's not even really a wolverine clone, as her own Mother so much admitted to the committee she worked for before her creation. (X-23 innocence lost issue 1 page 15) She's an interesting character who was raised abused, and told she was less than human, just to rise above it and slowly grow to be more human than her creators ever could be. Now if only Marvel would let her continue to grow, and let Beast or other science minded heroes test her genetics to prove to her what she really is, as truly her mother's daughter, as opposed to the lies and abuse she was fed all her life. Then again, that's probably one of the main interesting draws to her. When will she get that self-realization that she's as human as anyone else instead of what the ass holes who created her would have her believe. At least she knows to keep her genetic material away from them, so that she cannot be cloned. Last edited by Snowflakian; 09-20-2010 at 08:02 PM.. |

While I still read comics in addition to the collecting of MU, most of my "favs" are based on my childhood loves and the memories attached to the various characters so my favorites would be:
Heroes: Wolverine Iron Man Thor Capt. America{Steve Rogers} Hulk Villains: Juggernaut Dr. Doom The Lizard Sabertooth Venom/Galactus{tie}* *Is Galactus really a villain or merely a neutral character? I kinda see him as neutral course in a way that makes Hulk neutral as well I guess. |

Judge Dredd is like Dirty Harry and Dr. Who combined, he has a kick-butt motorbike, and his rogue's gallery falls somewhere between Batman and Spider-Man in terms of depth.

Im gonna be kinda weird and say these.
First off, Im exclusively a Marvel fan (nothing against DC, just don't have the time to follow it). So I'm going to say that my favorite Marvel Superhero is The Sentry. I love everything about him in a weird way. I like the controversy surrounding him when he first came out, the way that Stan Lee and all the writers played a long. Sure he may be somewhat over powered but his instability in his character makes him so dynamic. The fact that he has the power to calm the Hulk or be anyone's worst nightmare. Espicially in recent comics, he has become a pivotal character. For Villians I like Norman Osborn. A bit inoriginal but he is a classic. I really like characters with a lot of dimension and who better then the sadistic murderer ultimate super villian then Norman? |
