I heard on the radio the other day that they are in works for a third movie. And trying to get all the old cast back together. Any thoughts on how this will turn out?

GBIII is one of those things that's always perpetually "trying" to be made. Akroid wants it. Badly. But Murry doesn't. And it seems everyone is bound to what Murry wants. If he's not in, the studios or something like that won't do it.
I don't think they need him, and would rather see it without him. He didn't really add much to the first two.

I personally feel like I don't think any of them right now at this age could contribute much unless they were just there to "pass on the torch" to maybe a new set of guys/girls.

Well... I think Ray needs to stay. Not so much as an active ghostbuster, but in a simular role as Egon in Extreme Ghostbusters. Like you said, passing the torch.
Maybe I'm biased since he's my favorite character, but I always felt Ray was the heart of the concept, and the character who should always carry over (With Egon being a great second choice. Although his actor, out of all of them is about the least like he was back then). But yeah, I think passing down to younger comedic actors is best. I can see Seth Rogan (Even though I don't care for him) being a near perfect fit. Ellen Page would be pretty fantastic, too.

I'd love one more movie. Jetty is right though; this has been "in the works" for years now, but nothing ever comes of the rumors... like when they fucked around with Superman ideas for fifteen years.

I heard some where recently that they have the script and have made the comment that they will do the movie with or without murray at this point. Everybody else is on board, including Sigorney Weaver. I think something will manifest at some point, the real question is whether Bill will be involved.

I looked into this, into the recent rumors and everything Dan Aykroid has said.
If this movie is made, it would be the ghostbusters, now old broken down men who cant perform the job, training the "Next Generation" of Ghostbuster. I like this idea, however, it will only work if the actors chosen for new Ghostbusters are good. I'ma go through my 4 picks cause I'm at work and not doing anything this moment :P If you had Robert Pattinson or Hayden Christenson, we would riot. AThe guys needed to be cast as the next Ghostbusters need to have some sort of Geek Cred. SNL actors get some Geek Cred, but none of them get my vote except for Will Forte. The Adam Sandler/Chris Farley generation has gotten too old to be ghostbusters in my opinion. The Will Ferrell Generation dosent really scream ghostbuster. Will Ferrell might but he'd make ghostbusters his own with his genius. So I'd have to go with Will Forte as Ghostbuster 1 Number 2 is actually number 1 if I would make this a top 4 countdown, and that is Simon Pegg. The guy is brilliant, and his comedy transends british and american audiences. He wears his nerd badge with pride, writing and staring in the 2011 hit Paul. The only reason why Nick Frost isnt on this list with him is cause I want my list to be more diverse, and 2 British guys dosent work in my list. But he would make my 6th choice Number 3 is a favorite from The Community and recently campaigned to be the black Spiderman. Donald Glover is a hilarious young actor and could be cast as best friend of Oscar, who is rumored to be one of the new ghostbusters and bring Sigourney Weaver into the mix. Number 4 is is Aaron Garfield. guy is funny, he's the new spiderman, and he will be the one I want playing Oscar. the fact that the 4 ghostbusters I have picked so far are different ages makes the cast feel much more like Ray Stanz is hiring new people.

I'd like to see the original Ghostbusters die in the third installment, and the new Ghostbusters lead by Oscar have to bust them.
I also feel like one of the new Ghostbusters needs to be a girl, preferably emo. |

As far as I know, Murray has been the holdup for part III ever since part II was done. From what I remember, he had a bad experience filming the sequel and does not want to do another one at all. But that hasn't stopped Aykroyd from trying to get a third movie off the ground.
As far as whether they should move forward with Murray or not, he was the main star of the first two films. Ray may have been the heart of the team, Egon the science, but Peter was the leader. I'm sure they could write him out (say he died in between films), but it wouldn't be the same to me. You were close. It's a non-toy discussion, so it goes in the non-toy Movies, etc. forum. Moved.

Yeah, as Optimus Vader said, they've been trying to make this happen for YEARS. Dan Akroid (Ray), Harold Ramis (Egon) and Bill Murray (Peter) all own the rights and they must all sign on the dotted line in order for part 3 to happen. Murray is the only hold out. He seems determined to never allow this to happen. He's such a bastard that he even showed up to Spike's Scream Awards in his full Ghostbusters uniform. lol Talk about a tease.
And yeah, apparently the plan is to pass the torch onto a new team of Ghostbuster because the original team members are now too fat and old to do it. Oscar, the little baby from part 2, would be all grown up and be one of the members of the team. And Murray has even been quoted as saying that the only way he'd ever be in a Ghostbusters 3 is as a ghost. Well, the screenwriters actually delivered a screenplay with just that and still no dice. I'm honestly not sure how I'd feel about another movie. I LOVE the original more than words can say and I really like part 2 as well. The cartoons were great too. I really don't think that another movie could ever live up to my expectations. But, on the other hand, I've always wanted to see another feature film come out. And I believe that game on PS3 and XBox is considered canon. So that's technically Ghostbusters 3 right there. One thing I think we all can agree on that would be good is that if another movie were to be made a new toy line would most likely follow. I wouldn't be mad at that at all. |

All of this is correct but to add on to it ... Akroyd does see ones of the new recruits as a girl ... and Murrays big thing originally was that the script they had had been done by the team that did the Jack Black movie Year One ... which he referred to as the Istar of comedies and refused to sign his name to approve anything that was subpar just to cash in. This was in addition to his reservations over the experience of GB2. Recnetly Akroyd suggested rather vaguely as if he they had found a loop whole that would allow them to do it without Murrays sign off.

Since Ghost Busters is Ackroid's baby, I'm confident in the actors he'd choose (Though I'd likely boycot if Adam Sandler was in it. I cannot express how badly I hate him).
So I trust they'd never *ever* go with the trendy hot Twilight actor types. They need to have their roots as comedic actors. Simon Pegg is a brilliant call. If he's not on the team itself, I can certainly see him in the film in some form. I can also definately see Michael Cera and Jack Black involved. Cera seems like a likely choice for Oscar. Kat Dennings, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and as I mentioned earlier, Ellen Page seem no brainers. They're gorgeous, fantastic actresses, hot with the younger crowd, and they're great comedic actresses.

I think they could do the movie with out Murray, won't be the same. But if he isn't willing to let them go through with it. I say they go on without him.

Aykroyd should just focus on making something as messed up but entertaining as Nothing But Trouble. Now that was a movie.
