Another horrible repaint of a crappy ass Godzilla from a shitastic movie.
Also, City on the Edge of Battle? I swear they are just throwing random words into a hat and drawing them for the names.

The anime didn't do much for me, but I did enjoy it more once they went back to Earth. The design has grown on my a bit since it was first revealed. Still not one of my favorite designs. I am interested to see how they handle Mechagodzilla in the sequel.

Can't wait to see how the other Kaiju look too if they show more. Mechagodzilla I'm curious about how it handles on screen, but I'm a little unsure of the Zone of the Enders influenced design of it. It's definitely an interesting take on the concept though, and I like that it seems more nimble than normal sized Godzilla. Haven't seen a fully clear shot of it yet though. |

I like this design. I guess not being a Gojira purist, despite having a better than 3 decade history with the franchise, helps when appreciating new interpretations of familiar characters.

The Godzilla figures and the rest of the monsters from the SH Monsterline are great in sculpt and paint but those prices....ouch! I don't understand why they continue making these figures at 6 inches why can't they make them 8 or 12 inches instead? Since would be better for that price they're asking instead of $107 for a 6.7" tall figure.

The thing is, an anime Godzilla should be agile and mobile like they would do with the Showa ones. What's the point of even making Godzilla anime style if he is going to be super fat? That Godzilla needs to stop eating Americans and go on the Japanese diet.

To the story they are telling, that'd also be antithetical to the concept. This Godzilla is supposed to evoke muscle mass and size. Seismic tectonic plate rattling to each step. Slumbering for ages but still strong and nourished. A sleeker lizard form wouldn't make sense to the parameters of the story and basis for his design. Godzilla's ferocity is not in feral quickness or in a raptor like approach. It's in foreboding and mass. That nightmarish silhouette that's recognizable, of certain doom even if you think you can outrun it. Imposing and a king of monsters by sheer presence and strength. It also needs a more huggable capability for those heroic moments. A better empathic emotive animal presence. So this anime one has hit all the right story beats in the design it needed to tell the story they are telling. From its beginning as a more normal final wars mixed with new Hollywood movie influenced design of the original to yield that more foreboding powerful apex predator of all, to the 1000+ year change to how it evolved and grew as Earth changed to become even more imposing as the overlord of all of this new earth alongside the years of radiation. Godzilla isn't a speed fighter. He's an unstoppable force of nature that atomic breaths even the most agile annoyances as it holds them in place with its powerful arms, or sends them hurtling for miles with one flick of its tail. Its movements that certain, that confident, with minimal wasted motion. The king of all greater beasts that fears none. A king so powerful it has no need to run. Showa era was about proving ground, fighting to gain the name 'King of the monsters' and keep it. Shin Godzilla was about a new evolving creature. This one is about pure imposing foreboding presence and earth shattering steps. A complete unstoppable force of nature. Nothing to prove, nothing to fear. All are beneath it. Mere gnats, mere ants. Barely worth any notice. Last edited by Snowflakian; 05-18-2018 at 11:35 AM.. |

Uhg. Not well it appears. Looks like a 70's wind up robot (and not in a good way).

From the trailer, it looks a bit better in motion. Some of the designs may not show off its full capabilities for fear of spoilers.
So the spikiness may seem better in the film for those reasons. |

You're probably right. However, I still think the noggin' design is atrocious.

How does it work with Bluefin and U.S. releases? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of there figures in stores. If I have to order the figures on the internet, how is that different than just ordering them from an import store?

I run a Godzilla based Youtube channel. I think I know what is best for Godzilla!
Seriously though, where are you getting that from? What part of Showa era did you not understand? Why would I want thunder thighs McG? I want my animated Godzillas to maneuver around like Shannnon Miller, not wobble like Opera. Quote:

1. Are supporting US stores. 2. If the figure breaks or has a defective part, Bluefin will get you a replacement piece or do an exchange. Japanese stores are little bitches when it comes to doing this as they don't seem to comprehend how customer service is supposed to work. 3. You don't have to pay the shipping costs for getting it from Japan. Like I just had to pay $25 for shipipng for a single Figuarts coming from Japan. That is on top of the $90 price tag.

But I do have to give credit to the fact it looks like an ages old ship on the head. Which to a degree for the story makes sense for when it was designed in the timeline of the show. @Dr Kain https://youtu.be/DbFILj44OX0 Last edited by Snowflakian; 05-19-2018 at 06:24 AM.. |

About the aesthetics of a 'proper' Godzilla, in my opinion, enthusiasts are falling into the trap of believing that their fandom translates to some form of ownership. I've shared this sentiment before on the Ark. Regardless of the duration of your enthusiasm, the depths of your study, or the exposure to the subject matter at hand, in the end, you're just a fan along for the ride like anyone else. The only way to control the experssion of - insert whatever you'd like in this space - is to either speak with your dollars or create your own IP. The point being that, as an enthusiast, especially of a movie property, grousing about subjective impressions of a design or direction is largely a waste of energy. If you don't like something, don't support it. However, how easy that is to do is directly proportional to your level of fandom. The other solution for hyper-persnickety fans is to get motivated and create your own concept... Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 05-19-2018 at 09:22 AM.. |

It was interesting to see the significant size fluctuations, most notably, those taking place in the past 10 to 20 years. Thanks for that.

The other solution for hyper-persnickety fans is to get motivated and create your own concept... Some "fans" dislike anything different, but if it wasn't for things growing we wouldn't have anything we have today. It's thanks to evolution of IPs that we have anything. From the various Captain America stories, to much beloved interpretations and chapters of wolverine, to what Deadpool is now as opposed to the carbon copy of Slade Wilson he was. How characters evolve and change is what makes them resound so much with the public and their stories timeless. How even Superman has evolved from his earliest roots to having the emblem changed, and eventually the current look with the red briefs gone. All IPs evolve. They always will. No matter how many fits people throw about wanting them to stay frozen in ice. Some "fans" also seem highly jealous that others get the chance to influence that evolution, so they crap on everything, even if it's intriguing or good work. But seeing how things evolve, grow and the areas that appreciate the work alongside the new IPs is really amazing. Getting stuck in such "hate cycles" and seeing work constantly shat on gets so tiring, but seeing constructive criticism and those reveling in works appreciating it is so much better and uplifting and makes fandoms feel warmer and more open to cooler works and ways to expand stuff and wanting to see more works get created for them. The constant hate band wagon and it gets so tiring and wondering why to even bother. And how some "fans" throw such ego fits when their time is up from contributing too, even though they were helped to get some amazing things made. -_- And it makes you start to realize how selfish they are, and can make you feel so gross after realizing how inflated those egos were and how little they appreciated the help they got. And how much they poison the waters for other fans that could have gotten a shot to contribute if those experiences hadn't left such a bad taste. So it's more selfishness and elitism to prevent others from having that joy too. I mean really, what's the point in even making something for people to enjoy if all they do is crap all over it time and time again, or personally insult people that helped get it made. At that point, you almost can't blame areas for having certain things cease because of mistreatment until areas can learn to play nice. And I rather not keep getting "grounded" as a fan because of some of the bad eggs ruining it for the rest of us. But I digress and am now venting about several somethings else entirely. Pretty much. Everything evolves and changes. Things that don't, get stale and don't last. You have to go with the flow, see the whys, appreciate the whys, and work it from there.
