Has anyone seen it yet? I just saw a couple of episodes on Teletoon and it's pretty good. It's rendered in CG but it seems to use the Justice League Animated Universe character models. Only thing is that the Red Lantern Corps appear more like the Sinestro Corps and don't appear very enraged or crazy. They also aren't puking burning blood like they do in the comics but I guess that's because it's a kid's cartoon. I think they would've been better off featuring Sinestro Corps and then bringing in the Red Lantern Corps to take on them both. I always got the impression that they were basically so enraged that all they care about is killing (even each other) and only Atrocitus seemed to have his rage in check to a level where he could kind of think.

I'm upset it looks like the whole thing is going to take place in frontier space fighting the Red Lanterns.

Yeah I've got the same feeling. It already reminds me of Star Wars Clone Saga and Transformers Prime in terms of look and feel which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing except I often feel overloaded when they have too many CG toons. Still, might be okay. It looks like it's going to be an odd couple with guest sort of deal with Hal and Kilowog trapped on the ship with their guest, a remorseful Red Lantern I've never heard of.

I'm not satisfied with it. I don't hate it, but it's nowhere near as good as it could be.
We've gotten a movie that for better or worse, was a bit lacking. We've gotten one GL Animated movie that was also a bit lacking (More-over, they tried to cram three full length movies into less than an hour and a half), and one GL Animated movie that was about one of the most stunning adaptations of a comicbook I've seen. Then there's Young Justice, which starts a whole new setting, with beautiful character designs, and great animation. Great writing, and dispite not originally liking the new setting, has made me want to see more of it. When I heard there was going to be a GL Animated Series, I'd inadvertantly let my hopes get too high, I guess. WB had made a great effort in the past of creating a comprehensive animated universe that keeps building on itself, starting with the best Batman series to date, continued it with Superman, Justice League, and bookended it with Batman Beyond. So, I'd hoped that GL would follow in suit building on what Young Justice had started. Or, since a lot of the voices carried over, I'd also hoped that if not YJ, it would use Emerald Knights as it's "pilot," and build from there, with Jordan as a seasoned pro, and follow the rookie Arisia. But, we get neither. Animation: I hate it. The CG is hugely lacking. It's about on par with Prime, only without Prime's beautiful textures (At least it's not overanimated like Prime). Character Design... I can't honestly tell if it's Bruce Timm, or Derrick Wyatt's style. Hal looks classic Timm, but everyone else (Especially Razor, and the very first GL shown) look to be Wyatt. Kilowog could be anywhere in between. However, neither style works in CG. I would have never chosen Wyatt to be the art designer for GL... but his style does *not* transfer into CG at all. Neither does Timm. And Jordan is waaay too buff. He should never look like he could lay superman out with one punch. Plus, once again CG is so limiting that we're never going to get to see as wide and diverse a universe as we would with traditional animation. Story: Not bad. I have no problems with the plot or direction. And given the number of lanterns that have voices cast, I know they're gonna be in the outlands only for a little while longer. I'm disappointed that it didn't follow YJ or EK continuity, but I'll be happy with this. I can get passed the bad animation of Voltron Force, I can get passed the bad animation in this.

I read about it a bit on Wikipedia and yeah, I know it's not always the most accurate source, but it says that Sinestro probably won't be appearing in it at all which uh... what? Sorry. No Sinestro Corps equals high suck factor. I don't care what anyone says, I will always think of the Sinestro Corps as the Green Lantern Corps' mortal enemies.
"the series' main antagonists, the Red Lanterns, led by the villain Atrocitus, and the Manhunters. Carol Ferris, Salaak, Sayd, Saint Walker, and Zilius Zox will be supporting characters in the series." Hmmm, okay, somewhat cool, but they basically killed it for me by not having Sinestro Corps AT ALL. What next? A new Batman cartoon where they can only use Clayface II, Calendar Man, Joey the Snail and Spider Conway?? I'm all for giving non-mainstream characters a chance to shine, but doing away with mainstream characters altogether is just stupid. You don't want to put Sinestro in the forefront? Fine. Have him appear in the first season as a minor background character with the Corps getting their butts kicked by Atrocitus and then getting kidnapped by them. Then have him as a minor background character imprisoned by Atrocitus and the Red Lanterns with the remaining Corps appear on occasion as reluctant allies of the Green Lantern Corps. Sorry, I'm just still freshly steamed from reading this terrible news. < |

Sinestro will be in there- just not right off. In a suprise (and cool!) move, they decided to start with the Red Lanterns- the Reds show up and all the GL Corps are shocked that any other corps exists!
There is supposed to be a mystery as to the villian's motivations and the Guardian's backstory and mistakes will get brought into the light. I'm glad they did this- rehashing the GL movie and the GL animated movies would have been a mistake. Hell, I just wish it was a GL Corps series and they focused on guy, Kyle and John- leave that loser Jordan in Hollywood! Besides..you know they'll eventually do Blackest Night! |

Actually fell asleep watching it.
Got up and caught up again from where I doze off. If it's an alright series so far. Animation takes some getting use to though. Wish the Red Lanterns were a lot more angry though. I'll watch though just to see how it goes overall when it does officially start next year. |

Come on, it wasn't THAT good. And not knocking GLTAS but the budget obviously to the extent of Disney's Incredibles and it had that feeling you get when watching this, TF Prime and Hot Wheels Battle Force Five where it takes place in a desert world or in space because it requires less detailed backgrounds. They think they're "tricking" viewers, but soon this will be satirized on something like Family Guy or Robot Chicken. You can thank "thechris from Canada" for this idea, Seth Green/Douglas Goldstein/Seth MacFarlane. I know at least one of you guys must comb these forums for ideas. LOL. As much as I love Geoff Johns' writing, he's way too obcessed with the Silverage. @thechris, Yeah, Wikipedia was always wrong. Definately not a reliable source in this case. Sinestro Corps has always been intended to be in the series, they're just gonna be coming later. My complaint about that, is I wish they would have had Sinestro as a main character in this early part of the season. If you're gonna retell the Green Lantern story, then let's have a reason to like Sinestro, to feel sympathy for his way, and to feel sad when he falls. As for your complaints with the red lanterns, I can definately understand the changes. They use constructs, because they can't have them vomitting what looks exactly like blood, all the time (And they did some. It's just not their promart weapon). And if they had them nearly mindless like the comics, then they wouldn't be very compelling characters, and they would be very hard to write for. But I definately agree that they're basically a red Sinestro Corps, now. Which is sad, because there is a nobility in the comic Red Lanterns that doesn't exist in the Sinestro Corps. Losing that nobility makes them run of the mill villains, or "Evil Green Lanterns"

I don't know if yesterday's premier was a "Sneek preview" premier like Young Justice was, and we still have a couple months until the series actually launches, or if we're green to go now. (No pun intended)

You really have to go into it with low expectations. I did and I was more or less satisfied with the product. I mean come on, it's about Hal Jordan. I knew it wasn't going to be something I'd be uber hyped for.

Yeah I went in thinking it was gunna be the worst thing ever. I am still not a fan of the artstyle. I was a little surprised with how often there was mention of killing.

Yeah, it was funny, I noticed that, too. It was almost like they wanted to say, "Yeah, that's right, there's DEATH in this show... Hey??? Hey???"

I also kept thinking the team needed to be bigger and I really wish they would move closer to OA so we could get like a lantern of the week type deal.

Like I said, it kind of looks like an odd couple sort of deal with Hal and Kilowog working together and the Red Lantern guy rehabilitating himself. I would not be surprised if they're stuck with the new planet of Jar Jar looking guys for a while but then they did say that there are Green Lantern killers who are going after Lanterns on the outer sectors so there's also a chance of them traveling to these different remote areas each episode to fight off Atrocitus and Zox and probably some other Red Lantern member(s).
