I'm not a big GL fan (especially compared to some others), but I think this movie and its' "universe" has the potential to be huge, particularly if they get a sequel and start into things like the Sinestro Corps and whatnot. Lots of funky alien Lanterns and such just scream "kid appeal" to me.
I like what they're doing with the alien lanterns...IE making them truly alien, not just a bunch of "rubber forehead/facial prosthetic guys." One of the rare instances where the movie is an improvement on the comics. |

And likewise, the comics are rich with alien lanterns that are more than "just a bunch of rubber fore/headfacial prosthetic guys." Tons of Lanterns that couldn't be done that way, like Salaak, Kryb, and Brother Warth. Last edited by Crazy Jetty; 01-05-2011 at 09:26 AM.. |

Is every other figure so far a hideous monster creature?

I'm guessing you don't read Green Lantern much, right?
But seriously, there will probably be quite a few of the alien Lanterns, should the toy line (and film) prove successful. The GLC is stocked with tons of weird aliens. Some are humanoid, others are nowhere close. There's even one who's also a planet! In fact, if Mattel does things right, they could hit the Ben 10 market with GL and really cash in.

And the hidious alien thing is one of the most unique complaints I've ever heard within a fandom. USUALLY people complain about too many humans. As for these three, I want the aliens, but I have no need for a 14" Ryan Renolds. Especially one who looks no better than the DCU Classics toys does. |

Looks to be lots of the problems Mattel has with the smaller figures. Which is really too bad because I was sort of looking forward to the movie line since the more alien looking figures could have been something really different than the other toys on the market.

Seriously?
Rot Lop Fan, the F Sharp Bell? If he appears in the movie, I will freak out! But if he doesn't, kudos to Mattel for making sure that even the most obscure of characters will get some figure love. |

I think he'll be in it. If nothing more than just a background character. He has a movie design.

I've never been much of a Green Lantern fan, but if they release a wearable replica of the movie ring, than I'll probably get it. Not really interested in the action figures, tbh.

G'hu's facial expression looks treacherously similar to jar-jar.

Toys need more variety so far, but from what I've seen, I like. I'll have to wait and see what's in the 3.75'' scale first though to get. I am loving the more organic power batteries though.

That ring looks pretty nice. I'll definitely have to get at least one Basic figure (most likely Kilowog). Although I'm also tempted to get the board game for the light-up ring. Might also get me a Deluxe version of Kilowog (he's my favorite GL character).

As I said, I was applauding the movie makers for making characters like Tomar-Re (who was one of the aforementioned "basic human body with rubber mask" designs in his comic incarnation) more alien in terms of body structure. The only thing I was basically trying to get across was that I felt that decreasing/deemphasizing the number of basic humanoid Lanterns in favor of crazier designs was a neat idea. If sequels are made and they start digging into the character pool, I'd be perfectly OK with the only "basic humanoids" being the Korugarians (Sinestro, Katma Tui, Soranik Natu), the Earthmen, and Arisia. |

I've read a fair bit of Green Lantern, particularly some of the more recent stuff. I know there are a lot of diverse Lanterns out there, but there's also a whole heck of a lot that are essentially "basic humanoid" types (in the comics).

Also, I think that because there are also a lot of "basic humanoid" characters in the GLC, it will help with the toy line by reusing molds to help fund molds for the more unique members. Add to that the recent Blackest Night/Brightest Day story lines where characters had different colored outfits and that increases the number of potential redecos and remolds possible.

Abin Sur's articulation seems to match up with the Movie Master Hal Jordan.
