Seems Sony is going full steam ahead with this.
Making a He-Man Movie Work - IGN Here's my dream cast: He-Man Cast: Chris Hemsworth Adam/He-Man (captain america effects for Adam) Teela Rachel Nichols Man-At-Arms Tom Selleck (c'mon, you KNOW he'd be perfect!) Ram-Man Michael Clarke Duncan (think of him as a knight, rather than the cartoon's bumbling idiot) Orko partly CGI voiced by Elijah Woods King Randor Dolph Lundgren Queen Marlena Emma Thompson Sorceress Tilda Swinton (think a cross between White Queen of Narnia and Gabriel in Constantine) Skeletor CGI enhanced Kevin Spacy (stress insane wizard aspect) Beastman Ron Perlman (totally in costume. no CGI needed) Evil Lyn Rooney Mara (brooding, borderline psycho) Merman Andy Serkis (costume only, little to no CGI needed) Trapjaw Randy Couture (CGI arms) Triclops Ken Shamrock Yes, I know lots of characters aren't there... but this is an intro into a new franchise, so think of it like TF1 or X-Men 1. You know if you said Tom Selleck from the 90s I would agree with you, but he's too old now I think.
I remember reading a script, or maybe it was a treatment, years ago for a MOTU movie and it was amazing. I'm curious if this will be something in the same vein as that. |

I don't know. He looks pretty good in Blue Bloods. Also, Duncan is supposed to be an older character.
The only one I'd change of those is the casting for Evil Lyn. Instead of Mara Rooney, I'd go with either Helena Bonham Carter or Catherine Bell. I'd also drop Ken Shamrock for a better actor, but I can't think of anyone other than more wrestlers/MMA fighters. P.S. It's Tilda Swinton, not Swanson.

Your choices for Evil Lyn are too old to go up against Nichols as Teela. Besides, as a dark, brooding witch... Rooney convinced me she can do pure evil! Imagine the climatic fight of Martial artist Teela against the wizardry of Evil Lyn.. and at some point, Teela manages to pull off some magical counterattack... surprising herself, Evil Lyn, and be a nice wink to the audience who know Teela's origins. As for Shamrock, yeah, you can stick ANY WWE or MMA slab of beef for those roles... no different than random martial artists in a Mortal Kombat role. I Like Shamrock's voice for the role. Beastman would be more main-henchman, so would need a higher caliber actor. Look at Perlman's job in the craptastic Conan reboot. He has a rugged, bestial nature that would fit the role of Beast Man perfectly. Serkis would give a creepy, slithery nature to MerMan, and made a convincing enough performance in King Kong that I think he could do the gargling one justice. Quote:
Don't write off the old guys... watch Expendables... most of 'em are aging action stars from the 80s and 90s and still have what it takes to kick butt realistically in cinema. |

I wrote the introduction back in the late 90s for my "dream" He-Man film (totally different actors back then). I saved the file and recently took a look at it. It still holds up pretty good. Now remember, all this was before the 2002 series.
My movie would start with the aging King Miro. He looks at his two sons. Powerful, regal looking Randor, whose new wife is due to give birth soon... and Keldor - Randor's older brother, whose reputation was known throughout the kingdom as one of vanity and an obsession with the occult. The old King is dying. He has to choose his heir. He passes the ancient, chipped Sword of Eternia to his son, Randor, and dies. Upset, Keldor storms out of the room towards the dungeons of the Eternal Palace. Randor pursues him, concerned for his brother. In the dungeons, Randor is confronted by the true evil that his brother has been involved in... instead of criminals, the dungeon is filled with twisted amalgamations of various men and beasts... murderers with body parts replaced by wicked machinations. Randor calls for the guards as Keldor attacks from the shadows. The two battle, and during the struggle, Keldor breaks a lantern of burning oil upon his face, burning him horribly. He and his freak minions make a run out of the castle via the aqueducts, and come out into the swamp behind Eternia. Keldor believes that the old ruins of an ancient civilization, The Castle Grayskull, was built as both a mausoleum to an ancient king, as well as the prison for a powerful demon spirit. This demon would grant him the power to get his birthright. Keldor is helped thru the decayed castle by a muscular orange beast of a man, and he comes to a black onyx skull shrine. Keldor feels as though he is being watched, but he cannot see the falcon hidden in the crevices. He begins chanting, and the onyx skull begins glowing. A voice calls out from the skull, calling itself Hordak, and telling Keldor to place the skull against his face, and he will be cured of his injuries and given the power to achieve his birthright. Keldor does as he is told, and his face burns away... his face is no longer the tattered remains of singed muscle and burt skin, but replaced by the glowing, skull-like face of a demon. This final "humiliation" shatters what is left of Keldor's mind, and Skeletor was born... 25 years later... After decades of war with the forces of Skeletor, Eternia is in shambles. There have been few wins, and many, many losses. The Princess was kidnapped, and never seen again. The Prince, now a young man, is forbidden from leaving the Palace, for fear that he, too, would be taken. He is protected by the young daughter of the Captain of the Guard: a martial arts prodigy named Teela, and his faithful pet, Cringer. Cringer is a green and orange tiger, a species well known for their intelligence and strength... but Cringer was the runt of his litter. With a chipped tooth, a scarred eye, and a nervous personality, he is far from the bodyguard he was intended to be. Prince Adam begged his father to let him keep the tiger, and they had been inseparable since. Prince Adam and Cringer are sneaking around outside of the palace, when suddenly the tiny farming village on the outskirts of the kingdom is replaced by a smoking crater. The palace guards see a young, pale woman, skin as pale as cream, standing in the center of the crater. Approaching her, is the familiar purple panther and it's rider... a man clad in robes that looked regal yet tattered...but it's his face, or lack thereof, that truly scares. Where once were clever eyes, now are glowing embers, seething with hatred. Chiseled jaw and a royal visage is now a cracked skull, floating in a hooded void. The muscle and grace of youth replaced by the grayish-blue skin of death. Withered and consumed with hate, Skeletor signals by thrusting his Ram skull staff in the air, and an army of creatures rushes forth, determined to crush Eternia once and for all. The Eternian army rushes forth to defend the people, but their numbers are few. The alarm sounded, Prince Adam and Cringer head for home, but the palace gate has been raised, and the battle is spreading. A twisted being of eel and man sees the Prince and the tiger, and breaks away from the battle in pursuit. Adam and Cringer flee into the swamp beyond the kingdom. Attempting to hide from their attacker, they meet a falcon who bids them to follow. They come across the remains of grayskull. The castle had been recently mostly rebuilt, under the watchful eye of Teela's father and commander of the Eternian military, Duncan. Adam and Cringer run across the drawbridge and into the castle. As they wander, they come across the Great Hall, and on the far end, is a single throne. Next to the throne, in a pillar of stone, is the rusted and chipped Sword of Eternia. Duncan had convinced Randor that the sword belonged there as part of the restoration process. Prince Adam approaches the throne and sword. Behind him he hears the gargling breathing of the mutant that followed him. He sees the vile creature at the far end of the hall, charging him, pike at the ready! Having no weapon of his own, he grabs the Sword of Eternia, and sparks begin to fill the great hall and before he realizes what he is doing, a deep voice echoes from his throat... "By the Power of Grayskull!"... |

Nice treatment, webz. If Hollywood is able to get anywhere close to that, I'll be happy. That, and them staying the hell away from Earth.

How often does Duncan fight hand-to-hand anyway? he's always using some laser or device... He's more of a General rather than foot soldier. Everything about Selleck works, even more today. Most important is the fatherly vibe Selleck would bring to the role. Not only to Teela, but to He-Man, too, for even tho Randor is Adam's father, he relies more on M-A-A for advice than his own father.

Evil Lyn was the "daughter" of Skeletor, just as Teela is the daughter of Man-at-Arms. Ram-Man was the unstoppable enhanced knight of the Masters, Trapjaw was the knight for Snake Mountain (rather than removing his arm, he had a transforming swiss-army type arm. Man-At-Arms tears off Tri-Clops' visor, exposing two scarred and empty sockets and a computer panel in his forehead. Orko is just a background, comic relief character. During the climatic final battles at the end, Battle Cat knocks Panthor into the creature pits where Skeletor created his army. The massive cat tries to fight, but is consumed by the demons. As Prince Adam, the Sword of Eternia looks like a rusted antique, but as soon as he calls for the Power of Greyskull, the sword is restored. Only He-Man or Battlecat can lift the Sword in it's restored state. Also, when He-Man is no longer needed, he sheathes the sword and the power of Grayskull melts away, revealing Prince Adam again. Duncan takes a magical bolt intended to kill the Sorceress to the chest. His armor absorbs most of it, but he is gravely injured. Later, at the Palace hospital, an orange falcon perches on a branch outside Duncan's recovery room and watches him sleep. Skeletor and He-Man battle atop Point Dread. Skeletor, about to drop Teela over the edge into the great void below. He-Man thrusts the Sword of Eternia into the floor, literally separating Point Dread from the rest of the castle, and sending it into the void below. Battlecat, on the other side of chasm, leaps across and grabs Teela, then clings to the castle wall with his claws. Skeletor falls into the void... but also falling into the void is the black skull shrine, for it was kept in Point Dread. Last edited by webz; 08-08-2012 at 07:18 PM.. |
