So I am in the market for an Iron Man figure. I want something that is a nice visual piece. The Hot Toys Iron Man figures are out of my price range. I want something with some nice paint on it (preferably metallic). I've seen photos of the Marvel Select IM, which looks pretty nice. I've also seen photos of the Art Spirits Active Gear Iron Man but can't seem to find any reviews on that one. I read there is an SH Figuarts IM coming out at some point but don't know what it'll cost yet.
Basically, I am just looking for some recommendations on what would be a nice display piece IM that will not break my bank. Thanks! |

Well, revoltech Iron Man figures have great metallic paint apps and enough accessories to fulfill your posing needs. The articulation is good, although I personally am not too fond of the revoltech joint system because they can be limited in that a regular standing posture may have the arms flare out greater than you would like because the ratchet joint wont allow you reach that next click.
They fall into the $45-65 range per figure depending on where you buy from with only the out of production Mark VI and the EX Mark VI currently breaking the $100 price tag on ebay. Then there are the recently announced Figuarts Iron Man and War Machine http://www.toyark.com/s-h-figuarts-i...vealed-117999/ These are expected to be between the $40-$50 range and are in the 5.5" scale. I hope this info helps. The select figures have good detail but I don't care for figures with minimal articulation. Though MS line is definitely improving on that lately.

If your going movie, the walmart exclusive Robert Downey Jr Headsculpt figure is a good option or any of the walmart exclusives. The warmachine from the same line is the best one to get and an amazing figure. Marvel Select figures are good for paint and detail, articulation is a bit lacking and due to their slightly larger scale may look out of place with your other figures, unless u go all select or select ML figures. The new ROML extremis IM is cheap enough and good for what it is, you can add extra hands or a headsculpt from the IM 2pack if you want. Hulkbuster is 1 of the biggest/best figures for your $$ around $40-50 range. Series 1 yellow/red or gold are easy to obtain and look great for an oldschool comic feel, same with the 1st appearance gold and silver figures for a classic golden age Avengers team. House of M Ironman is harder to find without buying the set, but he's amazing for that series line of comics and has amazing detail. Silver Centuion is a good figure to have, walmart movie figures from series 1 such as iron man with remoaveable chest piece and mask is a solid figure same with iron monger. Hope that helps, honestly use marvelegends.net for reference pics of all the diff figures and buy what you like. |

the revoltech Mark III and II also have the RDJ head sculpt. The problem I have with the ML movie figures is that they look like cheap plastic in comparison to the Revoltech line, unless you're a customizer in which case ML is the way to go IMO.
For comic figures, ML is the way to go for articulation and MS is the way to go for strictly display piece that you want to look good and don't intend to switch up the pose often...or ever. An example of what's possible with ML figures with customizer Magic (courtesy of Symbiote)

Awesome! Thanks for the input!
I like the revoltech ones. Is there a big difference between the mk 3 and mk 4? I saw that there is a mk 7 coming out but didn't see a release date and can't find anywhere to preorder it. |

I think 1 of them has a light up chest feature, and 1 doesn't,... could be wrong.

Behindthemask is correct. Mark III has a light up chest and Mark IV does not. It didn't matter to me at all but the only other major difference was Mark IV is sculpted by MATSUMOTO EIICHIROU.
The Mark III also only comes with the RDJ head sculpt and two pairs of open hands (not counting the ones already present on figure). The Mark IV is also, curiously, the only Iron Man that deviates from the standard packaging and comes in a very unimpressive brown cardboard flip open package with only the description on the face of the package. He does come with pretty much all the same accessories as the Mark VI which included hands with blast effects and a flight effects accessory for the boots. The latest preorders have been for the Mark V although ebay dealers are taking preorders for Mark VII even though there is no actual release date I'm aware of.

Gotta be the Marvel Universe Tony Stark or the Marvel Select version of the Mark VI, as I think they offer value for money. I also like the Avengers Minimates version and the Lego ones are quite cute.

I was able to snag a Revoltech Mk IV IM for $65 online. I was going to go for the Mk III since I'm not keen on the painted arc reactor the Mk VI has but really like the molded one from the Mk IV. The Mk III's light-up one is nice when lit but looks dull when not lit. Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it. If there are any other figures I should look into, by all means let me know. I mainly collect Masterpiece and 3rd part Transformers and Star wars memorabilia so I am new to the Marvel thing.

I would get a Revoltech if it were in scale with MU figures but my understanding that is not the case.

I probably will grab that one if the price is right when it comes out. For the time being, this will fill my IM void

It's a real bitch just to get these figures to stand in a basic normal standing posture at times. They're great for dynamic poses especially with flight stands. But I'm very close to selling all mine and just using the money from all four towards a Hot toys iron Man.
