Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Solo, didn't we only see darth maul in the very end for like 30 seconds, and he was sitting on a chair the whole time? Kind of crazy to go out and release a figure for him when there are already 2 other darth maul Hot Toys figures.

Sarcasm about you being “wrong” aside, this offering isn’t crazy, it’s a joke. Hot Toys used to be the undisputed best collectible company in the world, now they’re just lazy, complacent, and apparently a slave to Disney. |

You’re wrong. It was more like 75 seconds. He was revealed 30 seconds in. He stood up for about 10 seconds. And it was a holotransmission the entire time.

This is more of a nod to Rebels and his part in there as well. Because he is both an established character in movie and story continuity in this form played a big part with this I'm sure.

If you think this is bad check out the Haslab Unicron tread at TFW2005.
The Snark is out of control EVERYWHERE nowadays. If everyone tried to point out one POSITIVE thing about a toy instead of being tiresomely sarcastic all of the time maybe threads would be enjoyable to read and contribute to again. We live in the golden age of toy development and collectors are more combative and unnecessarily entitled than anyone has a right to be about a "hobby". Guess we're getting old. Dolemite. |

I think this is great. I figured it'd be some new clothes, same head and accessories but this is ALL new. As a fan of Clone Wars and Rebels I think this is so cool. Granted, I don't have the funds for the Hot Toys Phantom Menace Maul, I certainly don't have the cash for this, but I think this is so cool. Well done figure too!

"To be fair" about what? Making those figures was a joke too. This is what you get when you have to make money off a license and you're too lazy to make the characters you should be making so you make a figure which features several parts you've already produced from a previous one. |

This gives me hope for some more Rebels and Clone Wars "realization" figures. A collector can dream.

So with that in mind, yes, I was making a joke that I admitted was sarcastic. Sorry that bothers you. But please explain how I'm "unnecessarily entitled" because I think this once great company that pushed boundaries with 1/6 scale Hulkbusters, '89 Batmobiles, figures with moving eyes, uncanny detail and a plethora of diverse licenses has become another lazy outlet focusing on pushing out characters from one company with as little effort as possible. I was high on Hot Toys for a long time, had a collection large enough to put a down payment on a house. Those days are over. And for the record, if I were to spend $500 on a character like, oh, I don't know, Thanos from Endgame, I'd really like for it to be accurate. Spoiler Alert: It isn't. Excuse me if you feel that makes people "unnecessarily entitled." |

First off, Dolemite wrote that comment based off of three comments. Three. So I can only assumed I'm one of these so-called "snarky SOB's" you're referring to.

I knew this thread was going to be a garbage fire. Just not for (checks notes)... Making popular characters so they can make money on a license. Darth Maul will always sell, Iron Man will always sell (and sell, and sell, and sell). Fans can complain all they want, but as long as those characters sell, those are the characters that will always get priority.

Seeing Maul in Solo was a fun little way to have a direct shout-out to the cartoons but I wonder how many people were just left confused by it. That's besides the point, Hot Toys has always been too expensive for my tastes.

Damn, this figure looks great, but the moving eyes are what really sets it off.

I just watched Solo over the weekend (which was actually a lot of fun) but yeah if I didn't already know Maul was still alive in Clone Wars and Rebels that scene would've come out of nowhere.

I have to imagine a good chunk, if not the majority, of people who saw the movie were like "isn't this dude dead at the bottom of a pit?" when he showed up.
