Basketball has got to be one of the funniest sports out there. I can see why a lot of people are upset with 3-4 plays but heck, a little roughness in sports is fine, as long as no one breaks a neck or something.

True true, but you can tell by the video that the kid was just being a straight up thug. He'll probably end up being a cop in his hometown :P

Haha yea, but look at him, the guy is HUGE. He should be playing football, not basketball! Maybe even be a good slugger in baseball! Poor kid can't jump so he close lines .

I'd say 3, 5, and 6 are so painfully obvious that the offending player should have been ejected by the officials or at least benched by the coach. I'm not so much upset at the player as much as I am the coaching staff and officials for letting that shit happen without any real consequence.
I mean, if they are willing to let a player get away with that kind of conduct, then why wouldn't he do that to help his team win? I'm curious what the opposing team's coaches and players had to say about it.

From what I learned from the NHL, is that you never, EVER question or call out the reffing of the game, ever. When you do that shit becomes personal. God knows if something was done or said that made the refs feel they need to get even or some shit. In any sport reffing becomes personal no matter what.
Also each sport has vastly different rules regarding player contact and what is considered a foul. And it doesn't hurt that NFL, NHL, NBA and most NCAA games are all nationally broadcast. Believe me, if shit like that went down in the NBA, the officiating staff would have hell to pay.

NHL reffing is different from other sports, though. Sure, refs in football and basketball can sometimes overlook things as a payback, but it has to be really subtle, otherwise they risk losing their jobs and being blackballed by the industry.

I bet fat boy doesn't play like that when his team is playing against a team that isn't 100% white boy. He does look pretty tough playing against The All-Harry Potter team though.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Officials at the pro and college levels have the league owners (and maybe team owners) to answer to if they f*ck up. And that's really only because money is invovled. High school programs maybe have to answer to the local Board of Education or the High School Athletics Association.
Good point.

The fifth one was ridiculous, he clotheslined the shit outta that kid. Hopefully this video results in some action being taken.
Like Treble said, good point Vader. Let him try that mess in a Philly high school.

When did high school b-ball players get so fat and unathletic? There are at least four players in that vid who have no conditioning to be playing high school ball.
Yeah, the refs need to keep control of the game and watch fouls, but whoever made this video is a sally. The #34 guy is a fatty with no hops, but he is obviously stronger than the other kids. He has no technique and every blocked shot attempt ends up looking like a hay-maker. Even worse, the guy doesn't leave the ground when he jumps. This video is getting blown way out of proportion. Porky pig is out of shape and wouldn't get playing time if there was anyone better on that hilljack team. #42 is a lazy thug who would rather foul than move his feet to get into position. He gets a warning on the two-handed shove offense, then a Technical if it happens again. 2 T's and you're ejected. Like it or not, basketball is a contact sport. Many college & NBA slasher-types are wearing those padded undergarments that go under your shorts (see: McDavidUSA.com - Basketball Sports Medicine, Basketball Protective Equipment and Protective Apparel). Sh*t gets rough. This video is nothing compared to some adult competitive level rec league games. tl:dr - Refs need to be less afraid to throw the T, but parents and weak kids with no game need to stop being total sallies. |

Yeah, 12 times is overkill. But it could have just been a momentary break with reality, or even simply survival instinct overriding anything else.
Regardless, I miss the days when this is how you took care of a bully:

The funniest part about that is there are people who watched the movie years ago and swear the actor playing Scut Farkus really did have yellow eyes in the movie. Even to the point of saying he wore contacts while filming.
Which is completely untrue, as there are several close-ups of him in the film and he clearly has blue eyes. There's a special feature on the DVD where they interview him about it.
