When I started collecting Transformers in 2003, it started off with the dinobots, then reissues, then pretty much all animal based g1, g1 leaders, and the bots from 1984 and 85. For the first 7 years I collected fairly slowly (especially when Classics and Marvel Universe also came along), but by last Summer I had almost everything I wanted and so decided just to go for it and get the remaining lot.
In the process of doing this I spent a fair old amount, but there was one thing I couldn't get - a piece for Dinoking (the Japanese version of Monstructor). I've more or less checked ebay everyday for 6 months and finally last week it turned up! I was prepared to spend $50 or so but in the event got it for about $10. Woooo! The funny thing was that each day I checked ebay, I also searched for Marvel Universe Warpath (I really want to get the X-men costume variant - hopefully we should see it soon), and in doing so ebay.co.uk has linked the 2 together - if you search for 'Doryu', it will suggest Warpath as a related search! I now have pretty much every animal based g1 figure bar a few absolutely ridiculously expensive Japan exclusives (Black Zarak for example), plus a few Hasbro figures I just plain don't like (the Firecons and some of the Pretenders). I hope to get some photos up soon! |

Congrats on the Dinoking accessory! I have a Pretender Icepick gun and Pretender Skyhammer parts en route this week, and I'll be able to say just about the same thing here shortly

Congrats on getting all the ones you wanted! I'm a Joe guy, but Transformers are cool too... I guess. LOL.

For me, collecting in general started with G1. Would love to see your collection.

Congrats!
What things are going for are crazy. TM Scourge has insane secondhand value, but regular scourge, meh. My friend is trying to collect the 86 movie cast, and was prepaired to spend a small fortune for Rodimus Prime... only to discover that MiB originals are averaging around $50. So I'm trading him my Targetmaster Scourge for half of the 2011 botcon box set. Me, I'm starting to purge my G1 collection. At least the toys that don't have sentamental value to me.

Thanks! There is indeed fuzzyness! It does seem pretty amazing to actually finish a collection - so many are started, but hardly any seem to get finished.
I came very close to missing out on the dinoking bit - the auction finished really early in the morning and I'd forgotten all about it, then just as I was going to sleep something clicked and I remembered, fired up the internet, and got my bid in! Quote:

Actually, the IH display pretty well with Alternators, since they're a bit smaller than Joes, they're closer to scale. I've got Captain Marvel standing on MP Prime's shoulder.
