I thought Ben Kingsley was in it? Anyway, from what I read the Mandarin would be a lot different. They don't think having rings or anything to do with aliens is a good idea :/

I keep hearing different things, I heard they were doing filming in china or will be. And that the new director wants to take us back to the first movie where he's in the cave, not litterally but physically make us feel like he's near death and needs to rely on his own genius to save his own life,... I also heard that nanobot technology was going to be used and mentioned and that was one of the main threats to him. I would love to see Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom, but I don't know if they'll do it.

In IronMan 1 didn't the bald terrorist mention the TenRings in his speech to Tony Stark? In the context of like "clan of the ten rings" or some such thing?
I still think alien tech in the form of ten rings isn't undoable, but I doubt they would go the mystical/alien tech route, even with Avengers fully embracing it. I wouldn't mind seeing Crimson D or Titanium man if they won't do Mandarin "right", but I'll keep an open mind. Favreau isn't directing I heard, is this correct? @DFD: That's some funny stuff right there, lol! |

Why wouldn't Favreau be directing? I think he did an alright job with the other two. I know my IM buddy didn't agree with the way they set up the story of Whiplash and Obidiah Stane because he wanted the story to be more comic accurate, but even he said the movies were pretty solid otherwise.

I'm just trying to figure out the details, so anything you find from a reliable source would be much appreciated. That said, we all make mistakes.

This is completely different from what I heard. I heard IM3 was going to be based off the Extremis Storyline, and the new Director said the Mandarin wouldn't be in it because he didn't want a racist stereotype in the movie. Can someone clarify or confirm all this?

I was going to post something about this last week but I keep getting sidetracked.
so here ya go. Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black is taking Favreau's place as director. Downey Jr. Talks Iron Man 3 - Movies News at IGN So far the only official actor cast as a villain (still no confirmation as to which villain) is Ben Kingsly (Hugo) Who Is the Villain in Iron Man 3? - Movies News at IGN Movie will be co-produced and filmed in China: Iron Man 3 to Film in China - Movies News at IGN So far two actors have been confirmed to play characters associated with the Extremis Storyline...well except for Maya Hansen, who although not actually confirmed in this article, it would seem very likely that's who she's going to play. Guy Pearce Joining Iron Man 3 - Movies News at IGN Iron Man's Sexy Scientist - Movies News at IGN So based on all this info one could surmise the following: There will probably be two villains. One guy will probably be trying to resurrect the Mandarin and another will actually play the Mandarin. Extremis will be woven into this storyline and maybe combining elements of the Haunted storyline making this a completely different story while including two very huge fan favorites as far as Villain and Armor are concerned. If they somehow manage to successfully pull off the above this might be my new favorite individual superhero movie...hopefully.

UPDATE: Ben Kingsley In Talks For IRON MAN 3 Villain Role; Movie Will Be Based On "Extremis"
Looks like the Mandarin will be in Iron Man 3. That's fine by me. Either way, I know I will enjoy it. |

yeah I think this was pretty much a given once co-production/filming was confirmed with Disney China.

I still think alien tech in the form of ten rings isn't undoable, but I doubt they would go the mystical/alien tech route, even with Avengers fully embracing it. As to the first movie, YES- the terrorists wre "The Ten Rings" nad the bald guy even sports a bigass ring he keeps playing with. In the comics, the Mandarin occasionally gives a lackey one of his rings and puts him in charge of a group to command. The lackey gets to use the ring as he wishes- making him minor badass unto himself if he hets something like the Fire, Ice or Darkforce ring. But the Mandarin gets to "see" through the ring and if the lackey gets defeated/killed, the ring teleports back to the Mandarin. Beats making a bunch of Doombots, right? Anyway, it's easy for them to establish that those Terorists were working for the Mandarin to aquire Stark weapons in the first movie. |

They foreshadow the 10 rings in both IM movies. In the second one Vanko meets with a member before he leaves Russia.
