Okay, evilekim's post was confusing. So you can have the rights to make merchandise for certain movies, but that may not always include the actual likenesses of the actors themselves; in those instances, you'd have to work it out with the individual actors on a case-by-case basis (such as Michael J. Fox, etc). Correct?

Sorry, I don't buy it. They can release the character and just alter the face so it isn't 100% accurate to the actor. They had no problem doing this with Hicks and Hudson.

They didn't do that with Hicks nor Hudson. They're both supposed to be 100% accurate to the actor. I think both Hicks and Hudson are excellent figures and Excellent Likeness.

I concur. The "Game over, man" expression on Hudson is dead-on IMHO and the main reason I bought the figure.

Plus Jack Nicholson for Joker which apparently cost a small fortune from hear-say.
Yup. Star Wars for example, George Lucas was clever and made all the actors include their likeness rights for the film in their contracts for merchandise. Alien and Predator on the other hand never made their actors do any such thing so NECA has to go actor to actor for rights. The crappy thing then is that acquiring an actor's likeness for use on one project doesn't necessarily grant use of the likeness for any and all projects the actor has been in, hence we got figures of Apollo Creed but not Dillon. Creatures such as the Alien or predators have no likeness to an actual person though so the rights to those are included with the license. |

Game Over Man face? Hudson's face looks like he is trying to take a crap so hard that he went crosseyed.

I agree, Gunathar, but I also know that arguing with Dr. Komplaint is an exercise in futility.

Man, I bet James Cameron is getting a big fat check in the mail for his likeness in this line.

They should have done him in a duty uniform like Gorman was wearing when he was first introduced to Ripley. This would guarantee more sales as people would buy it for customs. You could make custom marines in their duty attire which is something we wouldnt get as it isn't scene specific. Also it would have meant Gorman would have been more or less done pending likeness rights for his head.
Also, Cameron needs a haircut. That's not a regulation hair cut lol. |

His armor is graffiti-free so... Custom fodder!
He's got a Canada flag on his left shoulder, plus his head looks a bit like mine. What more could I ask for to make myself into a Colonial Marine figure? I'll be the king of my collection world! Seriously though I wonder what a signed one would go for on eBay...

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread. I still have had zero luck finding this. Never showed up on TRU's site and the only ones on eBay are knockoffs from China. Did he ever even hit stores?
