Hot on the tail of Hasbro's press release officially marking their presence at next month's New York Comic Con, several standard character trademarks have been registered for the JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS brand at the United States Patent and Trademark Office:
JERRICA BENTONEach have been registered as "Dolls, doll clothing and doll accessories; toy figures and playsets for use therewith". As some of you may know, this is standard practice by Hasbro to secure created, and they have to be used in order to keep the trademarks. This news continues to build upon the anticipation of the reveals from Hasbro at the upcoming New York Comic Con as it could very well mean that Hasbro intends to relaunch the JEM brand much like it has other brands from the '80s. Of particular note is the "MINX" register, which is a character from the later addition of the 3rd band, the Stingers. Members from the Misfits remain absent from this update, but this is just the beginning of Hasbro's venture into this potential relaunch. (L-R: Jem (alter-ego of Jerrica Benton) in front, Shana Elmsford, Aja Leith, and Kimber Benton) (Rio Pacheco, Jerrica's boyfriend and Jem's . . . urm . . . manager.) (Minx, of the Stingers) Last edited by Superquad7; 02-08-2013 at 01:37 AM.. |

It was only a matter of time, really. They've been airing the original show on the Hub for a while now, presumbably to drum up interest again. I wonder how many other 80's properties Hasbro plans to resurrect?
Still waiting on Silverhawks, though. C'mon Warner Bros., get with the program!

When I saw the Mon-Star cameo on Thundercats, I was shouting, "OHWOWLOOKITSMON-STAR!" I'd really like for Hasbro to be successful with a reboot of JEM for quite a few reasons as well (like you noted). |

Just to clarify, we have official confirmation that Jem is getting a new toy line. Hasbro announced that there will be a Jem presence at NYCC.

There is no way I am going to get suckered into buying Jem toys. lol My friends girlfriend has all of the original ones still in the box with the tapes which looks cool with all those 80's grafics but she collects Barbie. I just don't know that there is enough nostalga or interest in Jem to warrent a convention or toy reboot. Sure I know a few girls who would be all over it but that's it. With all the recent Matty woes, I think Hasbro could be over thre head or they just feel like wasting a few million.

That is true. I bet most of us who collect 1:18 would be all over these. That would be the smart thing to do but I bet they go for the 8 inch doll rout.

Especially Cold Slither customs.
But I have to agree, it will probably be the 8" or 12" scale. Although, it would be kind of funny to see Hasbro challenge Mattel and Barbie in that arena again. IIRC, Jem was the reason Barbie suddenly became a rock star for a while.

I'm pretty excited to see what Hasbro's going to do with the brand myself. JEM is primarily a girls' doll toyline, though. I would like to see a multi-prong approach that has a ton of products to offer in toys and merchandising.
