I'm still on the fence about buying any of these until I know for sure if Mattel intends to do a 2nd wave with characters like Alan Grant, Ellie, and Hammond to at least complete the main cast of the first film. I don't want to be stuck with just a Goldblum figure and nobody else. So hopefully more is shown at Toy Fair next week. Wasn't this line initially just a Gamestop/Thinkgeek exclusive up until recently when suddenly online stores like BBTS starting listing the toys too? Not sure if that's a bad omen for the longevity of the line. Is it not selling well enough at Gamestop/Thinkgeek and now Mattel has to unload extra unsold cases onto e-tailers instead because the limited retail outlets can't even move these? I'm surprised this Amber Collection line wasn't taken by someone bigger like Target, who had a lot of 4" exclusive Jurassic Park figures too over the last couple years. It's really not a good sign when no major retailers want the line and it has to be reduced to an online exclusive instead. If nothing new is shown at Toy Fair, then we can probably assume that Goldblum and Pratt and the raptors are all we'll ever get.

I feel the same way. I'm planning to get the dinos but I'm hesitant to jump all-in for the humans without any guarantees that we'll ever get Alan Grant (Ellie and Hammond would be great too). I've heard rumors about Nedry and the Dilophosaurus being the next ones for the line, and while that would be great, I still need a Dr. Grant to fully commit to the line goddammit.

That's impressive. What did it originally retail for? Strange that they offered it back then when they at the time didn't have any 6" scale JP figures to go with it. I wonder if they'd re-release it now with a darker repaint like the T-Rex in the first film.

$55, I feel like I've seen it stores still in the last year. Walmart had a battle damaged one. It wasn't marketed as a 1/12 scale T-Rex, just "Super Colossal."

Correct. And it could be argued that it’s really 1:18 scale, as they did offer humans and vehicles at this scale at the same time. A gimmick of the T-Rex is that it can eat the figure. There’s an opening in the stomach to get them out. A 6” figure doesn’t quite fit. Regardless, the size is big enough that it easily displays well with 1:12 figures, as shown in Jester’s pic.

"A lot of people gon' be using that head for Star Lord." Is there something I'm missing that Hasbro didnt cover? Besides the trimmed hair seems entirely pointless.

I was super tempted to pick one of those up on clearance too but I just couldn't justify it in the end, it looked fun though.
Yeah Hasbro did a couple of fantastic Star-Lord heads for GotG vol2, one in the Mantis wave and one in a pack with Ego.

Then again, the dinosaurs in the films are vastly oversized in many cases (such as Velociraptor...who is closer in size and appearance to Dinonychus in the film as opposed to being turkey-sized like the actual dino) so it wouldn't be a stretch to use it for that scale. |

They came out with several T-Rex's when they had the 1:18 figures. The Extreme Choppin' T-Rex is more in the 1:18 scale.

Having been to the American Museum in New York, that Rex was way too big to be 1:18 scale. 1:12 is about right.

Yeah, they've made several very nice 1/18th-scale Tyrannosauruses. Some of their other dinosaurs, most notably the Triceratops, ended up being a little underscaled (on the other hand, the Protoceratops released in the carded range of small 1/18th-scale dinos is actually closer to 1/12th, being nearly the same size as the 1/18th Raptors). |
