This....doesn't seem very LEGO to me. I think its an awesome idea, but why would LEGO pull the trigger on an old zombie comedy?

Maybe. I like the idea, but it just doesn't seem like something LEGO would do.

If you browse the Cuusoo site, you will see that there are numerous adult targeted items. The Shaun of the Dead items isn't even the only zombie set proposed there. But others include things like Blade Runner, Duke Nukem, Halo, Aliens, etc.
Not that any of these are guaranteed to be made. But if there's money to be made, then they will make it. |

To expand on what Joe said, Cuusoo is a basically a Lego customizers site where fans can create professional-looking setups and customs. Other fans then vote on the customs and if the set gets 10K supporters, then Lego will consider making it into an official Lego product. If that happens, the designer/customizer gets a royalty. See here for more info.
Of all the different products and ideas floating around on the Cuusoo site, only 3 have been officially made so far: Shinkai 6500, Hayabusa and Minecraft Mini World. Good luck to the designer of the SotD set. I'd love to see that one made too. I'm also rooting for Back to the Future, but there may be an issue with Art Asylum's licensing deal with Amblin/Universal.

Question: Where's the cheapest place to buy this and how much?? Also, IMO, that looks more like Ricky Gervais than Simon Pegg.

LEGO themselves explain how they'd be able to produce this set despite it being from an R-Rated film.

Congratulatory message from LEGO for +500 votes
2012/03/05 Congratulations on all of the supporters! Your model is very well done, and you've presented the project in a fun and engaging way all around. Since Shaun of the Dead is a comedy, and you present your work in a humorous fashion, we believe this is within the realm of the LEGO company brand standards on violence. Note that the zombie theme does put this project at the edge of what we produce, however we recognize that the LEGO Group produces other products where themese of violence and death play a significant role. Please understand that this initial green light does not have an effect on the LEGO Review that will take place if the project reaches 10,000 supporters. The nature of the work would require some significant internal discussion before we make the decision to produce such a set. In the mean time, we wish you the best of luck on your journey to 10,000 supporters! The LEGO CUUSOO Team |

Correct. As of yet, Lego itself has not done any sets based on an R-Rated IP. Personally, if you remove the gore from the film, I don't think the violence in SotD is all that different than DC, Marvel or even Harry Potter.

If they do this. I hope they look towards Doctor Who next. That red phonebooth/box just screams potential lego tardis to me. xD
Overall, really dig the building. I'm over lego minifigs, but that'd be pretty sweet to have for Marvel Megablok minifigs or Halo minifigs. I know. I'm weird. I love lego sets and how intricate they are over megabloks sets, but love megabloks minifigs over lego's. Hopefully this comes to fruition. |

LEGO® CUUSOO | Firefly Serenity playset
Like most of you, I would order this set the moment it would have become available. Unfortunately, the response to the proposed Firefly Serenity just about pulls the plug on any theme deemed too adult in content by LEGO. |
