Astra those figs of you are great!!!.
and you say casually like..."surely there is a shop nearby..go get a few made"..lol... I've never seen/heard of any place that did something like that anywhere over here. In fact..in the collecting communities......I"ve never seen ANYONE else with lil' figures of themselves...you are unique in that sense. i'd 100% go get a 1:12 figure of myself to put on display. none the less....those are cool and i'm glad you joined our little community here My shop is called "3D your body" and if your location Brooklyn means New York then you're in luck, I think they once said that they want to expand worldwide, New York and Hong Kong and such. Not sure how far those plans have come, they are still a small company at the start. May take some years yet. 3D your body tries to go into shopping malls. I wonder if someone shopping would decide on the spot to get scanned, as ruffled and sweaty as they look but at least it would bring attention for you to return later. I also know of a company that at a sci-fi convention scanned fans in their cosplay costumes which surely was wonderful. When I first wrote about my figures back in March I also got contacted by someone who actually scanned fans together with their stars, instead of taking mere pictures. Last year or so a friend of mine did a scan of herself in the UK and gave it to her grandmother as Christmas gift. It's all still a bit expensive but I hope that over time it will become cheaper to do. So, keep doing some digging around, who knows what will turn up! If there is enough interest, we always could do an extra thread to discuss it, with others joining in, collecting links to companies that offer it, etc. Here is one that seems to be New York, L.A. and San Francisco based: https://www.doob3d.com/ Good luck and let us see your results please! |

LOL true! Well then
The first I heard of these figures was some years ago when it was the big new trend in Japan. Someone had retweeted it. I also had no idea that there was a shop right in my city before there was an article in the newspaper. I thought it was a thing for the future. I wrote an essay about a decade ago about trying to create a toy of oneself, but the internet seems to have eaten it.

Of the 100s of gijoes, seems like a lot of people really like Scoop and Dataframe for some reason. Can anyone tell me why? Nice pictures BTW.

Scoop’s headsculpt has always reminded me of Judge Reinhold.

I'm not a huge fan of Scoop, but I had to do a shot of him since I found him complete last year at a flea market. He's a decent figure for what he is. As for Mainframe, he's a great joe. His specialty is still very relevant even though his vintage accessories can appear dated. Skidmark by scarrviper, on Flickr |
