So many people have been singing the praises of this new Dog Alien from Alien 3, that I just had to pick one up.
Alien 3 is my least favorite of the Alien movies, and I already have the McFarlane version, but I keep reading how this is supposedly one of NECA's best Aliens so far, so I just couldn't pass on this guy. I can't wait to see how he compares to the McFarlane version. I also grabbed a second T-800 to go along with the one I already have.

The NECA dog Alien makes the McFarlane one look like a crappy discarded unused concept design in comparison. Obviously the pose on NECA's is way better, but it's also more accurate to the movie puppet in every way and just looks better. I will say though, you may want to be careful posing that endoskeleton. Mine hasn't had any issues, but I've been fairly cautious with it. I haven't heard anything really bad about the gunner endo, but sometimes all of those tiny pipes can be difficult. Sometimes going for total accuracy kills total durability, and the endoskeleton was already designed so damn frail.
Granted, I still like the McFarlane version too, but the two that I have are now definitely bumped down to "troop builder" status. The NECA one is definitely the new alpha dog of my pack of Dog Aliens. Also, pretty cool on NECA's part to throw in a clear stand with that figure. Oh yeah, when I got my first T-800 a couple months ago, I was very nervous, due to my past experiences with NECA. He definitely has to be handled delicately, but he's not nearly as fragile as I had imagined he would be, especially with all those tiny faux-hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders. As long as I can keep my friends from trying to pick them up and re-pose them, I think my endoskeletons are gonna hold up pretty well. I'd really like to troop build that figure. With his "16-bit" aesthetic, he looks like a T-800 from the old Genesis game, but he can also easily pass as a "battle damaged" endoskeleton next to NECA's earlier Terminator stuff.

Was surprised to run into a clone trooper while on lunch at Walgreens yesterday. I saw Yoda too...but just couldn't pull the trigger on the little guy...

I saw all of those except Scarlett Witch yesterday at Target. Thor looks cool but ML aren't really my cup o' tea.

I've seen this guy in person three times now, and I will say if it weren't for my current no prequel trilogy figures rule on the Black Series I would have picked one up by now, it looks cool. I've also seen Yoda twice and I kind of want to get Yoda especially since it's the OT version, but only if it's on sale for at least like $5 off.

Troopers aside, I DO want a Black Series Dooku and Jango Fett with a fiery, nearly unholy passion. After that, unless it's from the Filoni Series...I could really do without future Black Series 6 inchers from the prequel trilogy (unless they give us a Padme with Baby Luke and Leia!) I don't know what it is about Yoda, but I've run into him a few times, and something about both the figure and it's price point really throws me off. I applaud the consistency, however I really feel that Yoda should have been priced differently, considering his size and lack of additional accessories to make up for all that empty space in the packaging. It reminds me of the situation many of us ran into with Rocket Raccoon on the Marvel Legends, and I simply don't feel I'm getting enough there for my 20 bucks. Also, while I am sure I am in the deft minority here...I HATED the fact that it's muppet Yoda, and only because he comes with his lightsaber. I feel that if Hasbro wanted to include the weapon with Yoda, it should have been CG Yoda in the box, and not the old, end of his days muppet Yoda that was featured in the original film. Of course, I am just nitpicking, and I could always just lose the lightsaber should I pick him up so Yoda will be accurate to his screen counterpart, but still...those are my grievances, however finicky they might be. |

And as for yoda's size vs. cost, same issue as R2, but you have to think of it as if you buy more then that one figure. Vader has more tooling than most and Chewbacca is bigger than most. I mean the next 2 figures are a great example as well. Bossk is a lot of new sculpting where Trooper Han is nothing but a reused figure with an extra head piece. |

Mace Windu is the one prequel character I'd really appreciate, for him I'd break my "no prequel stuff" rule for the line. Okay and Jango Fett, and maybe General Grievous, and probably Qui Gon, but after them I'm sure that's it.

I am still shocked they have not announced a Jango , since they would just repaint Boba and add blasters and holsters. I really want a Dooku as well as a Mace Windu, but I AM DYING for a General Grievous w/ cape and jedi lightsabers. He might just be worth the 40$ deluxe price tag.
I think $40 for Grievous would be atrociously overpriced. He'd only be about as tall as Chewbacca (I think a little shorter technically) and his extra arms deal doesn't account for much since those arms are so damn thin. They managed to make a really good Grievous in the 3.75" line that could separate his regular arms into the 4, and it didn't result in him being a super special deluxe more expensive toy. There isn't any reason Hasbro can't make Grievous a normal figure if they ever do one in the 6" scale other than them being greedy about that added expense for a deluxe figure.

Received an awesome custom today from toy community customiser "The Spectre" -
It's a version of Chuckles aka Philip Provost.

While he's a little more plain than the basic stormtrooper, I do have to say that I'm really digging this trooper. Although, now I'm kinda hell bent on trying to find the original trooper to go with him, which I never saw in stores when it was released. Being a fan of the TV series, Commander Cody is on my list as well as Captain Rex when they're finally released. I also hope that we eventually will see a Commander Gree, Fives, 501st, and Wolffe before we are all said and done.
in my fantasy world, they'd make cody, rex, gree, wolffe, and bly.. and each one get's their corresponding troopers to go with them. ugh.. man, that'd be awesome. i can't wait to get my hands on sideshows new rex. that thing looks gorgeous. |

Actually a Jango would have to be all new. His armor had no dents or signs of wearing and age like Boba's does. His gloves are different, his thighs actually have armor, he doesn't have a shoulder cape or scalps, and his boots are different. I'd also rather see the smoother less colorful jetpack he had on Geonosis than the one with the rocket like Boba uses. All in all Jango's armor looks more "new" and tightly put together.

In case anyone was holding off on some of the wave 1 GoT figures. Check your local Walgreens but make sure to open the figures right away as many will need to be exchanged due to breakage.

Ran into one of the new Star Wars two packs and snatched it up. Unfortunately, there were no Sabine Wren packs on the shelf, but, at least I know now she'll be showing up soon enough...
My Chinese seller MU Black Cat also arrived in the mail today, and while I had some slight trouble with it in the beginning (her right arm was stuck at the elbow...I had to finagle it a bit with an exacto knife and a hair dryer as well as a little TLC to get the joint moving properly,) I was pleasantly surprised. She scales really well to my SHS Spidey (my go to MU Spidey) and her paint apps were really well done. I didn't jump the shark on it in price either, as I paid about $14.99 shipped (MU are priced at $12.99 in my area, not including the cost of gas and the disappointment of finding nothing but Iron Man and Hyperions on the shelf...) I'll probably be picking up one of her MOC if I can find it, but if I am not able to, at least I avoided this hunt early... |
