I wanted this, as I grew up with this look in the comics. But I saw the price and said wtf. Pass for me, unfortunately.

I know I would regret passing on this for the proton cannon alone--preordered.

It looks great, but year a 50% price bump for one accessory is quite a lot.

That Proton Cannon pretty much guarantees we'll never see a Mafex Modular armor
Damn, that's a shame... |

I'm not very knowledgeable about the classic comics, does somebody want to explain to me when and why Iron Man had roller-skates? XD

I believe he had the roller skate boots very briefly in the 70s or 80s. I only remember seeing them once in an older Iron Man comic from that era.

I was just thinking that! If he didn't come with that and was in the 60 dollar range.... Ahh screw it, I still wouldn't buy it, the Legends version(s) are just as good haha

Well, they'll have the cannon ready if they decide to do the modular armor in the future. This could be rough for anyone that was just wanting to get the classic armor, though. Now they have to pay an additional premium for the cannon just to get the figure.

LOL at the price of this figure. I'm sorry but no.
The best classic comic Iron Man is Mezco's One:12 version. You can still buy it for $90 and it comes with LEDs. That figure is amazing. Buy that instead. |

Looks like the best Iron Man to me eever.
But the sticker shock is real on this one and can't do it. What there justifies that price? |

One would think that for that much money they could finish painting it. Those little circles to the left and right of the unibeam are supposed to be filled in yellow too.

The capcom cannon is really cool but wouldve rather seen some more accessories that go with this particular armor instead.

Dammit I shouldn’t have done this. I read a few of the 1968 Iron Man comics and now I want this guy.
There's just something... truly fascinating about these old comics. They are not a billion dollar movie franchise with millions of fans going crazy over every single teaser or trailer; it’s simply a few pages of paper bursting with creativity and fun. It's not about Thanos or saving the universe, it's about beating up a guy called the "Unicorn". Of course, they got to Thanos and all that stuff eventually and it wasn't any less amazing, but the sheer simplicity of these stories, and their clever execution sucked me in, I couldn't stop reading. Also, it was interesting for someone like me who only knows Iron Man from the 2000-ish comics and of course the movies, how early Tony Stark was forced to wear his Iron Man harness at all times, and the rest of his armor, the helmet, gauntlets and boots made of "flexible" metal were carried around in a briefcase. No epic suiting up, more like Clark Kent searching for a telephone booth for a change of clothes. And the moral dilemma - man that’s something I never got from the movies. Tony Stark needs to keep the Iron Man a secret to protect his technology, it forces everyone around him away, he loves yet hates being Iron Man at the same time as the constant battles slowly worsen his health, and the few remaining close friends are constantly endangered as he attracts danger. Which in turns makes Tony want to abandon Iron Man and the responsibility it carries, before realizing only he can keep its potential of destruction in check. I know this is an action figure forum but man; it's really great to read some old comics sometimes. In my case, for the first time. It is undoubtedly obvious how all of this escalated into the global phenomenon it is today. |

Did MAFEX not get the memo that classic 70s mid 80s Ironman did not have a proton canon? That increase to $120 just for that dumb useless accessory just cost them my $$ as this woulda been my 1st MAFEX purchase had it been in the $85 range. I have stayed away from this line due to the cost but that classic Ironman woulda been too damn good to pass up as comic based IM is pretty much my favorite Marvel character, especially from that era when JRJR & Bob Layton drew him. I'd love to see MAFEX do a classic Thor, Cap, Vision, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Yellowjacket, Hercules & 1st app Wonderman! Then I may be tempted to get into the line.

In place of the cannon, wouldve liked to have seen some kind of block of machinery to pose him holding up (showing feats of strength used to be a superhero trope lol). And a briefcase that opens up and showing a relief of the gauntlets and helmet..maybe even being able to put the helmet in the briefcase. Those kinds of accessories wouldve been way more appropriate for this era of ironman.
Still tho, I dont even mess with mafex anymore and I'm tempted by this despite the price. |

That price just can't justify me getting this for Iron Man's "Sunday Best".

May be the best 6" Iron Man i've seen. With that being said, no chance i'd pay $150 for this. Maybe for a 12" version. Remove that huge cannon that many of us wouldn't want and sell it for $99.

I've never bought a Mafex figure as they are pretty pricey but this classic Ironman has me very tempted to jump in, even though I could care less for the useless photon canon they included with him that actually belongs to Modular IM. I'll probably ended up selling that off if I do decide to take the plunge into this line. But my 1 determining factor is if this will be a one off of classic comic based Avengers. If so, I'll be on the fence about getting him. Now if Mafex announces more classic Avengers such as Cap, Thor, Vision, Scarlet witch, Wasp, Yellowjacket, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Falcon, Hercules & 1st app Wonderman. Then I'll jump into the line as I know that it's not scale compatible with the slightly larger ML line who's 6' scale skews 6.5.
My dream line for Mafex would be if they started making both classic era Avengers & classic Perez Sattilite era JLA figs that along with the big 3 would include Red Tornado, Flash, Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, GA, GL, Hawkman/Hawkgirl, Zatanna & Elongated man. |
