I gave up on my search for the Free Comic Book Day issues I wanted. Everyone wants like $5-8 on Rocket Raccoon and GOTG.
Forget about it...I just wanted to read the freaking thing and I have thanks to PirateBay torrent downloads. I was fortunate enough to find a small shop that still had the Mouse Guard hardcover. We got 2 and my girl loves it. So the day wasn't a total waste.

In my province there's only 2 LCS. Both do have some-what high markups on figures, but comics are right on par, and never any issues on FCBD, except I forgot about it this year and worked it last year. 1 of the 2 goes through Diamond for stuff, *(the other one does too probably, just never asked), but I was curious for toys and merchandise if you've tried/considered going through bigbadtoystore.com? they have a section for resellers/store owners, and I'd imagine the pricing to be cheaper, or perhaps Amazon as they offer free shipping. The cheaper you can get figures the cheaper you can resell then, still making a profit and making your customers extr happy. I also know sideshowtoys.com does have a store/reseller type account.

I say we close this thread. This seems like a place to come and complain. This is something we all love. We all know how the game goes. If you dont like it dont buy dont go there save your money give it to someone else. Collecting is a sport you got to beat the scalppers. Its not there fault you guys dont do the homework. Nothing in life comes easy. Before I found ebay in 2009 99% of my collection was store bought and I had one that few could touch. You got to know the times get a couple connections. When I get on the hunt Id go to 4 walmart 2 targets and toysrus. Sometimes I would find nothing and just waist my gas. I was ok with it because it was something that I love to do. No body wants to pay marked up prices. You either have 2 chances gamble and hope to buy it at retail or buy it online. With the prices of gas I feel good buying online then to waist my time and gas. It is a sport. You cant compain if the other guy is better means you need to step your game up or quit. I say first come first served. I cant get mad cause the other guy got there first. My toysrus is full of collectors. I have to get the left overs. Find out when the trucks comes be friends with someone in the store know the managers. Sometime I even beat those guys. For the lcs They have familys to so if you dont like it dont go there. In life everyone not going to do things your way so why complain. You dont have to give them your money. This is something we love guys so lets try to take things to a positive level.

The creator of this thread clearly titled it as a "Rant" thread specifically for complaining about various aspects of toy collecting that he didn't like, and I think that it's better to have it focused in this thread than on the appreciation threads.

Or just buy cases and sell off the extras on eBay.

Not all of us can just 'let it go'.
Plus...I don't think there's anything wrong with addressing our frustrations head on.

Something happened to me today that really pissed me off.
Its Free Comic Book Day today. I went to a local comic shop, that I haven't gone to in a while because I bought a Minimate set and one was damaged from the factory, but they wouldn't let me exchange it for another set because they said it wasn't their fault I didn't notice it was damaged in the store, fair enough. That made me mad but Diamond Select was nice enough to mail me the piece that was damaged. Today I went to a Comics N Stuff since that incident because it was Free Comic Book Day. I'm thinking...let bygones be bygones. I went in to buy some comics and maybe get a few Free Comic Book Day Comics...wrong. They told me I could only have ONE single free comic from the whole table they had. I only wanted 2...just 2 (Guardians Of The Galaxy & Rocket Raccoon...1 of each...that's it.) but they said no. That I had to buy a store membership card in order to get 2 comics. The store member ship costs $10 annually. I said no and left. I called the main store manager and he said that's the rules. Oh well...they're never getting my business again. The store in question in Comics N Stuff on 555 Broadway in Chula Vista, California. They have more stores that have just as shady business tactics but that was the one that soured me for the last time. It sucks Free Comic Book Day was ruined for me but that's how it goes sometimes. I'm gonna write a complaint to Free Comic Book Day site itself and see what they say because I think people are getting cheated. Dude, that sucks! I went to a Hastings and they allowed people 10 free comics! |

... like pop into threads clearly titled with something I know I don't agree with or care about and start commenting? =) Just leave the OP and other folks that want to vent to their business... best possible use of your time and theirs.
Edit: sorry man, that reads really snarky... nothing personal bro, but there's a reason I wouldn't bother clicking into a DC Total Heroes or My Little Pony thread. Nothing of interest to me, and it'd probably frustrate me trying to figure out why either line has a fanbase to begin with. lol I figure it was a cool enough gesture for this thread to be started out of consideration for not derailing other threads, so complaints or not, seems like a good thing to me. Random rant questions and statements
#1: Why do stores stock items with shelf date then refuse to sale said item? DO NOT STOCK if you cant sale! #2: Why case pack a set of 8 figures with 3,3,1,1? the items packed 1 per case(ie BW or SG) definitely shouldn't contain the most important piece #3: Stop with the store exclusives! The Walmart AOE exclusives look HORRIBLE! How you repaint Rippersnapper as Grimlock?? #4: Please work out the distribution for GOTG more than 1 Nova and Rocket in the case please! #5: If I come in the rant and rave section and complain about people ranting and raving isn't that allowed?? |

1. most likely the item is not in the register yet so they cannot ring you out, but the stupid stocker did not look at the big STREET DATE printed on the side of the box.
2. Only Hasbro and Mattel know this. 3. That is how the retailers want it. If you can only get a figure at Walmart, well, then you gotta shop at Walmart. 4. Wont happen. We are talking about Hasbro right? 5. Yup. |

1. because the big stores have run the comic shops and independent toy stores out of business, and since toys aren't there priority they don't give a damn. in short you made Wal-Mart your god now its will shall be done....
2. according to there studies in some far off toy lab three children want captain America and Iron man, only one wants wasp. 3. sadly my friend this hobby is a drug and I'm addicted, if they told me there's an exclusive green and purple wolverine in a tutu that's only available for a limited time in the bottom of the Marianas trench, I would rent a dive boat. that's the game, sometimes it sucks balls but that's the damn game. 4. Here's the official response from Hasbro :" go f*** yourself... and buy more toys" 5. if you rant within a rant you will generate a quantum paradox whereby an alternate reality will form where we are all chatting on a "compliments and praise" thread about all the free figures Hasbro mailed us for being loyal customers, and how we chose to stay home on the one day of the year that stores don't give comics away. |

Considering that is the exact purpose of this thread, I don't see the problem. Better to vent here and possibly learn a thing or two about the industry/business from knowledgeable members (such as ClevComicMan), than muck up other threads with needless bitching.
Oh, irony. How I love thee?

I've gone off on a rant here and there myself, but I think I'm not always the most articulate person, so my rants take time to flush out lol. I don't think anyone is getting style points for their rants so when you've got a point of view and you think others may agree or disagree, put it out there for discussion and let the cards fall where they may!

I think when your bitching about a hobby, collection, or toy company it's a healthy frustration. no one's dying because the new MI Cyclopes has no neck, if you can't find a new Black widow your kid ain't going to get lou gerigs disease. It's healthy to get a bit upset over the little stuff, it's a nice distraction from the insane world we live in full of crazy people, wars, disease, murder, and the fact that at any moment a well placed asteroid, or gamma ray burst could wipe out all of existence in the blink of an eye. I know the common colloquialism is "don't sweat the small stuff" but now days you'll go insane thinking about the big stuff. My point, when a toy company, scalper, or product pisses you off get pissed say it loud and proud, because any day now you're computer might become self aware and kill everyone you've ever loved... just some perspective.

Big shout out to bmorr and ClevComicMan for sharing their knowledge about the inner workings of comic shops and Diamond. You guys gave me a lot to ponder concerning the current status of the LCS in America, and I'm grateful for that.
One of the things I love so much about ToyArk is that people can share their opinions and enter into a meaningful dialogue without having to worry about trolls and self-righteous grandstanders. So, thanks again for the info and the diplomatic way in which it was presented. Much like bmorr said, my opinion concerning the LCS has been shaped by my bad experiences in shops that I have frequented throughout the southeast. Sometimes I forget that there are passionate, hard working owners who make the effort to give their customers the best shopping experience possible. Thanks for giving me a little perspective. |

CCM, does your store have a website or ebay listings? I'll buy from an arker before anyone else. and I love supporting LCS's, growing up comic shops were like church and Disney rolled up into one. If they faded out completely it would be a sad day, the classic poorly lit shop full of one priced long boxes and a surely owner discussing some next level nerd stuff in the corner with a dude with a pony tail, that's how (before the internet) me and my friends got turned on to new things, and found out about indie comics, and movies. And there's the classic discussions on which hero would win in a fight, or who should play who in a movie.

Pretty much anything "geek culture". Comics (from the 60s to this weeks newest releases), toys, posters/ prints, original artwork, Graphic Novels, CCG (magic, yugio, pokemon), heroclix, cult movies/ anime/ animation, Tabletop games, D&D and other RPGs, statues, t-shirts, fantasy weapons (swords, warhammers, etc.). We run video game tournaments, and we are currently getting our Magic, YuGiOh and Heroclix certification to run licenced tournaments for those. We have a dedicated gaming room that seats about 60. We have been playing allot of Cards Against Humanity lately.

As far as a website goes, right now it is in development. We are on facebook at "Cleveland Comics / Northcoast Nostalgia" Newest updates are always there first. If you ever need anything, feel free to like us and then send us a PM. Someone from the store will answer you within 24 hours if not less. Also we can mail pretty much anywhere. We also just started selling on Ebay as a store, (under our store name "Cleveland Comics"). I also sell as robicomicandtoy on Ebay personally. I actually just threw some stuff up yesterday and will be putting a whole bunch of stuff up next week. Some recent hot comics and variants and a couple toys are up now, but I have a bunch of 60's and 70's runs of Marvel going up as well as some walking dead, MU and WWE Elite figs going up next week.
And to keep it on topic, I went into K-Mart last night and saw the grimlock and optimus from the new movie. Took them up to the register and they refused to sell them to me because of street date. I proceeded to bitch out the manager telling her that if they cant sell it, it shouldn't be on the floor for sale with a price tag, AND that they (KMart) had already broken street date and showed her the article from here. She still wouldn't sell it to me, but I felt better afterwards. LOL |
