We all know that the 1st mold that Hasbro would retire for Marvel Universe was the Punisher mold. They used it at least 4 times, twice for Punisher, once for Blade, and another time for Black Panther.
Upon release, it was the weakest figure in the line and not really missed(Punisher). So the question is, which figure molds do you want to see retired next? I think the following won't be sorely missed if retired:
Now don't get me wrong, I still WANT TO SEE Black Spiderman, New Captain America, Daredevil, Union Jack, Hulk, and Daredevil figures in the line, just not using the original molds! Daredevil should be athletic and tall, Hulk ought to have functional hips, any character with more than one weapon ought to be able to use both weapons simultaneously, and Black Spiderman should look slender and especially not hindered/funky articulation. I mean come on, SPIDERMAN? Seeing New Captain America, quite possibly the most highly anticipated MU figure for me this year, end up using the Daredevil body was the final straw. New Cap, a character that Brubaker made into an AWESOME temp Cap, deserved better. Surprisingly enough, I think the decent Iron Man from wave 1 will be outdated the minute the Extremis version comes out in a few months. The Extremis version is more articulated, and looks so much better. I thought the Hulk would be great until I tried moving his joints. The hips are terrible. Articulation at the hips is nearly non-existent. So which molds do you want to see retired?

First off, "SPIDER-MAN". Second, I am a fan of the Black Costumed Spider-Man mold. Especially in its use as Iron Fist. I don't really see it as very hindered.
What we truly need is our Daredevil mold to become as tall as Black suit Spidey or MU Wolverine, and our Wolverine to become as short as Daredevil. Some swapping and remolding could make that pretty easy. Honestly though, I see the awesome Guardian mold becoming heavily used heavily quick (which is probably good).

The mold they have used for all of the females so far (Black Widow too as it looks) has been the same and should be changed.

I wish Hasbro would make 5 inch figures for bigger characters like Hulk and juggs. I really wish they used Guardians mold for Magneto. as for the Daredevil mold it must go into the trash bin along with Pun and Black Spidey. I love Wolverines mold to much to complain that he is to tall, I couldnt see Wolverine made out of the Daredevil mold. IMO alot of Marvel Universes molds dont look uniform? what im trying to say is if you didnt know any marvel characters and picked up a Pun,Daredevil and Wolverine fig you would think that they were all from different toy lines.

I like the "Black Spider-Man" body, although it was really used first for Iron Fist and Human Torch. It is one of my favorite body types in the line.
I agree with the problems concerning the "Daredevil" body. If they fixed that open left hand and made the torso longer it would be a winner. |

Maybe it was the darker paint that made it better but still needs to be retired. We also need a new PUNISHER!! That mold they used should have never been made.

Actually the "Black Spidey" body is not the same as Iron Fist v.1 and Human Torch. They re-made Iron Fist v.2 from the "Black Spidey" mold. I like this sculpt for Spidey and Iron Fist but it looked ugly on SDCC Namor.

edit: Here is a pic from Marvelous News. http://marvelousnews.com/database/gv...ze=600&start=0 Yeah they are similar and I wonder if they are going to retire the first Iron Fist/ Human Torch mold.

I'd say the Daredevil mold tops my list. The female mold doesn't necessarily need to be retired yet, but an alternate should be introduced for heroes that don't exactly fit (She-Hulk, for one).
The original Hulk mold should take a powder as well, along with Punisher. Black Spidey I'm fine with as long as they don't use it for Spider-Man himself anymore.

The X-Force wolverine upper torso needs to be retired badly.
I can deal with all the other parts in the library they've got to mix and match, but that upper torso just plain sucks. The neck is too hunched over for any decent poses, and for a character who's short, he looks down too often. You can make him look straight forward but then his neck is so hunched over it looks funny. That torso is just utter pure fail. Great figure, ruined by a horrible neck. The rest of the library of parts has much that could be done, as customs have shown with Cable from punishers body, and more. Last edited by Snowflakian; 02-02-2010 at 11:26 AM.. |
