As many of you know, I'm huge into the MU line and all other 3 3/4 accompanying lines XMO, IM2, and Wolverine and Xmen (only for a few choice figures).
Currently, I'm looking to incorporate some other lines into my collection. I picked up some Incredible Hulk 2008 movie toys and got some Hulkbusters and a new Hulk. I was looking at the old vintage figures from the late 90's from all of the Marvel cartoons which debuted in that time. Most of them seem 4inches and above and thusly out of proportion. So I'm curious as to know what other lines can be used to add to a Marvel Collection. Currently I have -All of MU -Xmen Origins -Iron Man 2 -Wolverine and Xmen -The Incredible Hulk Movie line -Spiderman 3 3/4 line |

Yeah the Toybiz SHS line is a must. The line has a much superior version of Daredevil (in both outfits) and a great Beast (Blue and Grey), Juggernaut, Reed Richards (in 2 different outfits), Invisible Girl (in 2 different outfits and a half invisible version), Thing, Green Goblin, Human Torch, and Spider Man. They also have good but not great Black Suit Spider Man, Iron Man, Capt. America, Hulk, Wolverine, Punisher and Ghost Rider to name a few more.

I think getting the Moleman, Daredevil and maybe Doc Ock from MLSD is a smart move but the rest I prefer the styling in MU better. I like the Venom okay. I got a SM2 Venom anyways and will want to pick up a Sinister Spider-man from MU this year.
Beast will show up in MU sooner or later. Oh, and the Sue Storm (and Electra) is aweful! Which Hulk movie toys did you like? |

I picked up Tunnel Clash Exclusive mainly for the Hulk Busters, I don't know...it seemed obscure and kinda cool. And I got the Abomination which fites Emile Blonsky inside. The artiulation on Abomination sucks reallllllyyy bad but I have the same reason I have Blob....just a nice shelf unit. I want an uber posable Hulk and the best bet I can think of is an ML Hulk or a SHS Hulk. The movie hulks all seemed to have gimicks like SUPER SLAM which turned me off. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated in the SHS line and/or any of the other lines. I Just started looking at the 90's Toybiz ones and they seem a big bigger but I'm not sure.... BTW How's the punisher? He looks cool.....kinda. Does that holster on his left side feature a removable pistol? Last edited by Tarquinius; 04-17-2010 at 08:18 PM.. |

The pistol is molded on punisher.
90's toy bix are too tall to fit with the MU's. There are a few exceptions but there are also better representations that are easier to find (ie thing, hulk ect). Thor is one that everyone is leaving off, he was ten times what the MU version from the comic pack. Then again if you just want the modern one then the MU modern one is good too. I prefer the clasic look so that is that. Thing, Spidey, Daredevil ect are all better in SHS/MLS IMO. |

My fear is is that this line is averaging about 4 inches and actually may be a tad bigger then MU.....can anyone lend me their 2 cents on this matter? The SHS Cyclops looks amazing. I definitely like that version better then the blue spandex/skull cap look that we've gotten/are getting 3 of. I'm also guessing that this line is no longer in production correct? |

There are a few comparison pics here, but I would like someone more ambitious to round up comparison pics of Showdown vs. MU counterparts
Marvel Universe vs. Superhero Showdown - Marvelous Forums Showdown wins on Daredevil, Green Goblin, Classic Thor, Thing, Doc Ock, and Colossus MU wins on Dr. Doom, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Cyclops No one wins on the Hulk, Sue Storm, Punisher, or Elecktra Super Poseable Spidey from the Spidey line wins for my Spidey, but that's arguable. MU has yet to produce a Beast, Ghost Rider (although he's coming soon), and Mole Man, so they're all default winners. |

I was factoring in that the next MU wave we get a colossus whose costume doesn't fit properly and has a silver streak across his abdomen, yes.
I'm torn on the magneto. I have them both, and neither are perfect, but neither are bad, either. I don't think there's a wrong choice there until I get a Magneto with appropriate body proportions and a removable helmet. That version will be the winner. Awesome link for the first wave comparison shots. Now if they would only keep going. Last edited by uberlad; 04-18-2010 at 07:37 AM.. |

The SHS Beast is a beautiful action figure and I doubt Hasbro will match it when they release a MU version, but for the most part the SHS figures are pretty but don't hold together well. Captain America disintegrated one piece at a time (but he had a nice shield). I keep Mole Man and Namor on the shelf, and they usually are face down with at least one arm off when I come in the room. I've always thought that if I took an exacto blade and dug out the seams around the joints that they might hold together better, but then I'd be stuck with he SHS if I ever get tired of my collection, and they don't hold up well enough to pass along to kids.

I think that Hasbro has to really catch up to there big "hulkish" figures such as Hulk and Thing and the possibility of Beast and etc. So I think that the SHS figures will surpass anyways |

I'm seeing that the SHS figures do fall apart a lot, is this because of the range of articulation causing them to fall off or what?
I think that Hasbro has to really catch up to there big "hulkish" figures such as Hulk and Thing and the possibility of Beast and etc. So I think that the SHS figures will surpass anyways As for Wins and analysis between MU and SHS: 1) Thor - The SHS figure hands down is better even if the armored up Thor from MU is pretty cool. The 2 pack MU Thor doesn't even compare. 2) Venom - SHS is not bad and the comparison is the new Spiderman line. I found that if you add the Spiderman line Vemon head to the SHS body it looks awesome. 3) Daredevil (Red & Yellow versions) - SHS by a landslide 4) Colossus - SHS over the upcoming and the XMen Origins easily 5) Reed Richards - Again, SHS (both versions) destroys the MU version 6) Juggernaut - Having only seen pics of the MU version I'd say this is a toss up. MU might have the edge if the helmet is removable, if not SHS will have more articulation. SHS Juggernaut also has an open and closed mouth version/variant. 7) Namor - SHS beats the MU 4 pack version (they are the same "look") 8) Beast (Grey & Blue versions) - The Wolverine and the X-Men version isn't remotely close and I don't think MU will ever top it. The Grey version has a different head than the Blue and both are incredible. 9) Magneto - SHS by a landslide again. No comparison. 10) Wolverine (Costumed) - This is a toss up, but not because of the look of the figures. I think the SHS would win save for two facts. One is that the figure is flimsy (as are most wave 1 figures). Two, the paint apps aren't always done so well and sometimes the legs don't match so well with the rest of the figure. This is a shame b/c I think the MU Wolverines are too big and bulky and the XMen Origins are lacking something in the overall look. 11) Thing - Eh, this is another toss up. MU looks great and so does SHS. SHS has more articulation. 12) Black Spiderman - MU all the way. Black Spider was/is the best Spiderman they have made to date. The SHS is really cool but looks like Spiderman's little brother. It is smaller than the SHS Red and Blue Spidey and again, falls apart quickly. 13) Red/Blue Spidey - SHS easily over the chubby Wave 1 MU mold. The new MU mold coming out with Sentry might give the SHS a run for it's money but in all likely hood I'd still say SHS. The reason is that the SHS Spidey mold captured the figure perfectly. Skinny yet very strong looking plus loads of articulation. There is also a Chase Version with Green Eyes and Static that fits into his back for a Spider Sense look. 14) Punisher - I'm still hoping the new MU Target two pack gets us a little closer to a good Punisher. So far you can pick the SHS too tall and thin Punisher or the Steroid Monkey Headed MU version. The two pack, from the picks, look great and should lend themselves to a GI Joe head swap or two to make it perfect. 15) Dr. Doom - I would have to go with the MU version but the SHS version is pretty sweet. I use them as my Doombots. 16) Doc Oc - Spiderman line doesn't even come close. 17) Hulk - SHS is OK I guess, same with MU, I think the movie line was/is your best bet. 18) Ghost Rider - No MU so far but I know they are coming out with one. I can tell you this, there are two versions of Ghost Rider the modern and original in the SHS line. The modern is cool but not great. The original is pretty awesome though. 19) Sue Richards - Looks like evil Sue Richards in the SHS line but not horrible by any stretch. There are three versions in SHS, two in costume and one half invisible. 20) Wolverine (T-Shirt) - SHS destroys the XMen Origins line version (or animated version for that matter). 21) Wolverine (Motorcycle Cowboy) - Ugh they all suck. 22) Elecktra (White and Red versions) - SHS only, these go from Suck to Blow but there are no other versions. Buy only if you are desparate. 23) Cyclops - SHS is my preferred version but YMMV. I like the skinny Cyclops but I will admit that the XMen Origins version isn't horrible. the current MU version is horrible though. The pics of the upcoming MU version don't look so bad though. 24) Green Goblin - SHS kicks the Spiderman line version to the curb fast. Falls apart easily though. 25) Mole Man - Great looking SHS figure if you are a fan which I am not but until we get a Puck figure he is the reigning midget. 26) Iron Man - SHS figure is actually pretty frickin sweet however the new IM line is pure awesomeness. What is cool about Iron Man is you can have 8 million different versions of the dude. I loves my SHS version but he is second fiddle to the MU and movie versions. My favorite is still the Wave 1 MU version and his repaints. I'm not sure if I missed any of the SHS figures (I probably did). I'd say the SHS figures are totally worth it though. -BB Last edited by boombatty; 04-18-2010 at 10:58 AM.. |

Supplementals from years past in toy biz can be:
=BAF= Sentinel Brood Giant Man Apocalypse Onslaught (second form) Fin Fang foom Modok (although it would be in MU the Modog, the biggest of the modok units) Annihilus Ronin the Accuser =Legends= Ultron BlackHeart The Lizard Danger Beta Ray Bill The Destroyer =ToyBiz X-Men/X-Force= Master Mold Mojo Brood Nimrod Apocalypse (almost any version fits, so just pick one or all =D Poseability varies sadly) AoA Apocalypse Onslaught (First Form) Phalanx Hodge Dark Nemesis (holocaust) Sugar Man Bone breaker Warstar Strong guy Random Sauron =Hulk TAS= Maestro (Legends just can't compare to the trophy belt!) Hulk 2099 Wendigo (slightly shorter than legends, but bigger than MU) Abomination =Hulk Classics= Mecha Hulk Abomination =Spiderman TAS= Man-Spider Symbiote Vampire Man-Lizard The Lizard (but really, legends, TAS or spectacular all work!) Morbius Unbound Swarm Doppleganger Hydroman Steel Shock Spider-Man =Venom along came a spider= Phage Spider-Carnage Venom the Symbiote =Venom Planet of the Symbiotes= Venom (The Madness) Hybrid Riot Lasher Scream =Generation X= Orphan Maker(protector or something like that) Phalanx =Silver Surfer= Beta Ray Bill (toss up between this and legends, better height here, but better poseability in legends) Drax =Avengers= Ultron =Ironman TAS= Modok Hulkbuster =Fantastic 4 TAS= Dragon Man Super Skrull Terrax =Fantastic 4 Classic= Super Skrull (better versions) Dragon Man (better versions) =The Vault= Ultron Stegron =Resident Evil= The Tyrant The Licker The Hunter -Back to Hasbro- =IM1= Iron Monger MK 1 =Hulk (norton line)= Hulk Agents Abomination Bi-Beast Ironclad =Crossovers= Ghostrider =Spider-Man 3= Sandman =Spider-Man Classics= Venom Scorpion DemoGoblin -Mattel- Secret Wars Kang (can always move head and gear to MU body.) -MISC- Man Thing (forgot what line, select or legends) Hope some of these help. This is pretty much almost everything to scale, or slightly larger to be more imposing for scale figures to MU, ROC, Spider-man's 3.75'' line, XMO: Wolverine, or even IM 2. Some I factored in aspects that make them slightly bigger, like the Lizard, and the Symbiotes, or apocalypse and his size changing, etc. The two onslaught distinctions give his normal form the right height, and his second form the massiveness it needs for the finale of his story. Others like Sauron can just be skipped, but since he's a good place holder, I left him for now. Beings like ultron have many forms, so it's easy to just go buck wild on all his figures. Others like Hydroman and Sandman have no real height restrictions either. Other supplementals borderline on kit bashing. Like MU Ultron and Doom combined for doom 2099 Zartan, Wraith Armor, and Impact armor duke body for Purifiers. etc. Last edited by Snowflakian; 04-09-2011 at 06:53 AM.. |
