Ugh. If he insists on making statues he could at least make them interesting. The Half surrender pose? why? So far the Michonne and maybe Daryl are the only okay looking ones. And that is only if you can find any of them with decent paint. They are going crazy with the eyes and insane with the dark wash. I have seen a ton of Ricks and they all look like crap. I remember when McFarlane figures had perfect paint and decent poses/articulation. You could order one in the mail and not be afraid to get a grubby looking cross-eyed character.

I'm old. BTW, these new WD statues have hit most stores in my area by now and they're all peg-warming like crazy. No one cares. |

Yeah, if you're going to make a figure with non-functional articulation then it's going to need a better pose.

And what is with the numbering??? 17??? And why is he a Blue top??
I thought the 5 colors were for the 5 categories of figures? Movies, Tv, Comics, Video Games, and what ever the last group was. |

Man I feel like we are watching the downward spiral of McFarlane toys.
They were lucky enough to have the Master License for The Walking Dead (Which should easily translate into boatloads of Cash), but instead gave us too many Ricks and repaints and never even completed the core cast. I don't want a Rick and Michonne for every outfit they ever wore, but someone at McFarlane thought that was a good idea. I have seen Rick with an extended right arm like 10 different times in 4 different scales and they are all somehow different??? Who is going to buy this stuff? Cool they are making Jesus, but why give us this awkward pose? Like he is saying "I know there are Zombies and all, but you gotta chill out bro" I feel like since it is Walking Dead stores will order it, but I know we will see these on shelves for years to come, since no one is buying them... |

I would like a well sculpted, well painted, conservatively articulated, screen-accurate 6"-7" figure of Rick in sheriff's uniform. That's my wish list.

The Walking Dead helped reinvigorate the toy side of his company a bit, but it seems he is trying out a bunch of different things to see what sticks. The building sets were super hot at first, and now all on clearance across the board. The 5" figures may have sold well early on, but I'm still seeing everything after series 3 peg warming like crazy. I think the 7" "statues" are another experiment. I love them, but most don't, so I don't see the line living long, sadly. Todd has said that the new line is all about sculpts, and he'll only add articulation when it won't break the flow of the figure. There is a video of him sort of making fun of how articulated the 5" were. While I agree 100% with him, I can see why people are frustrated. That said, how well would a fully articulated, proper 1:12 scale line of TWD figures sell? And, for how long? While The Walking Dead is a phenomenal smash hit on TV, is it any more popular as a toy, as say, Batman? Almost everyone I know loves the show, and none of them collect figures. I think as rabid collectors and fans, we forget that we are a small pocket of the population, like, a speck of dust, in the grand scheme of things. I'd also say McFarlane's overall spotty quality is another reason. NECA does a good job of making figures with great sculpts and paintjobs - far better than McFarlane - while maintaining a good degree of articulation that, for the most part, remains fairly well hidden and that doesn't break up the flow of the sculpt. Todd was right to make fun of the articulation of his 5" WD figures, as it's a throwback to the early 2000's...although making fun of the lack of quality of your own product probably isn't that bright a move from a business standpoint. Needless to say, I don't think many collectors today think highly of McFarlane stuff...I know I sure don't. I did like his Halo figures, but they no longer have that license, soooo.... |
