Sorry tim is a bad cast choice. They guy is just too spindly...even for a young paul. Even in the books he wasn’t described THAT wimpy...jack.

"Small for a 15yr old..." Seems like he's a good fit with that basic description... But I don't get too hung up on movie vs book comparisons anyways.

Which means that both of those got it wrong. Any the miniseries for Children of Dune used teenagers for 9 year old characters.
I'm upset that the Hobbits in Jackson's movies weren't 10 foot tall since I saw some fan art depicting this. Any criticism of look should be compared against the original source material, not some other adaptation. Look at Wolverine too... we have both Hugh Jackman Wolverine and short and gruff comic Wolverine... both relevant enough to have their own version of action figures... and both versions of toys equally popular. It is what it is. Dune though... IMO the thing with Denis Villeneuve is he likes to work with the hottest actors at the time for all his movies... Jake Gyllenhaal, Jeremy Renner, Ryan Gosling, etc... and Timothee Chalamet is the hot actor right now... for better or worse. Also I loved Syfy's Children of Dune... such an amazing musical score and James McAvoy was amazing too. |

The head sculpts show through much better in these shots.
I think versions that are not the suits could work down the road, if they get there. Masks, robes, turbans, the witches, etc - all can be used across lines as background fodder in addition to a Dune setup. With these that's it - you like Dune and these looks, or you're out. |

I have been waiting for McFarlane to do 12" figures again. I wish they would again. I have some of them from back in the day, they were beautiful, heavy, well made and detailed.
I will be buying. I am a big fan of the original and the sequel to Dune. I have little faith in modern movies, but will buy most of these figures. |

They couldn't use clear plastic to similate "floating" for the stick up the fat guy's butt?
Or does the guy really travel around on an anal pogo stick? |

Maybe this flick won't be so boring as its predecessor. The new outfits don't seem any less bland. Can action figures draw collector interest based on character development alone?

Dune has zero potential to make any serious money. These figures will pegwarm like mad.
I mean, they did the Lynch movie and it flopped. They did the sci-fi channel series and no one cared. Now they're doing a remake helmed by the guy that did a pretty damn good version of another "classic" sci-fi property (Blade Runner) that apparently no one outside of the internet cares about either, since THAT flopped. I don't know why they keep trying to make Dune happen, but it's not going to be the next Star Wars. It won't even be the next Buck Rogers. |

I don’t see dune really making a big splash. Not even the splash that SPLASH made.

Hey, no offence to Buck. I loved that show as a kid.
Denis Villeneuve is a great director. Blade Runner 2049 was really good, but sadly it's appeal was pretty limited outside of hardcore sci-fi fans. I think Dune has even less mainstream appeal, and you need that when your budget is like $200 million and you're only making part one of a planned two-part series (that will probably never be completed, sadly). But Villeneuve did a good enough job with Blade Runner that I might check out Dune, even though I'm completely ambivalent about the source material. I loved Power Rangers, hated the movie. There was NO reason for those Zords and battles to be CGI. It looked terrible, like a transformers battle, it's hard to follow tje action bc of the close up camera shots. Lower the CGI, lower the budget and be creative and faithful to the fans. Statistically, people forget CGI, and it does NOT leave a lasting impression like practical effects. People rememberered Dune and Children of Dune, but this movie will be forgettable and in 2020/2021, it will probably bomb. Wish it the best, but will buy the figures, especially the McFarlane 12" ones. McFarlane is legit. Minus that first wave or 2 of DC Multiverse, they have been outstanding. |

Funny that you mention Blade Runner 2049. I finally got around to watching it this week, and found it similarly plodding and dull. The ending is a complete fizzle. I wondered if depth of a book had to be sacrificed to fit the structural confines of a cinematic production, except there's no book!
@Vash: I agree, CGI can't take the place of good storytelling. |

Thats why movies like alien, aliens the og sw trilogy will be better than the newer stuff......they had REAL PROPS and sets. I mean empire had a life size falcon built for that movie. Hell i wish i could bought it to use it as a house!

I think I'm like the opposite of everything right above this post lol.
I liked the first Dune movie as a kid. Not something I watch over and over, but I dug it. Later on after college, I actually read the books. I normally don't read anything like that, but I was in a situation where I had time and it was there, so I dug in. Like that wayyy more. The books writing style does not translate to movies well, it's a lot of inner voice processing of what he's seeing. That's what's interesting, and what can't be done well in a visual format. The Sci-Fi show - more in depth and went beyond original movie, but it had that "made for TV" cheese factor, was before our current state of epic TV series took off. Saw Blade Runner 2049 at drive in. Went more for the event than the movie(s). I did not like the original Blade Runner, thought it was super boring once I saw it as an adult. But, 2049 wound up being really good IMO. Story was way better, and it's visually beautiful in every damn shot. Plus it was slower paced than modern action/sci-fi flicks, less cutting angles and all that. So that took me by surprise and I dug that. Add it all up - director I really like and source material I also like, and I'm looking forward to it. That being said, I do not want a 20 figure deep Dune shelf, any scale. I still think that the obscure and non-suit figures could work, depending on what we get in the movie. Pretty much all these I think have potential, for Dune and then in use beyond Dune (shelves or photography): |

I'm guessing in the world of Dune, they have not invented guns yet?
I'm totally confused about the scale of the toys. Stilgar, Atreides, Jessica, and Idaho are all listed as "7” scale" figures. But the BAF Rabban is listed as "12” scale" figure. Why would a set of 7" scale figures build a 12" scale figure that's out of scale? By the photos of the BAF pieces next to the figures you can see that Rabban is in scaled with the rest of the group. That means he's really a 12" tall figure. Since he's a taller character, Which would mean he's "7" scaled 12" tall". So that would also mean Baron is also a "7" scaled 12" tall" figure because again, he's a larger character. Right? So they're ALL 7" scale? |

I lined up (crudely) the BAF pieces as shown in the pics, and then set it next to Stilgar. So he should just be a bit taller.

I think they copied an pasted a lot of text between their product descriptions, which may explain why Rabban's says that. While the product highlights say Rabban is 12" the BAF pieces shown with the figures looks to be a regular 7" scale figure, maybe just a bit larger.
I lined up (crudely) the BAF pieces as shown in the pics, and then set it next to Stilgar. So he should just be a bit taller. So Baron is the only out of scale figure? Or would he also be in 7" scale since he's supposed to be a larger character? I wonder if the 12" include the stick hovering him. |

Baron is indeed a 12" tall figure, head-to-toe. I don't think he's meant to scale with the other figures though. Just a stand alone 12" release.

Beautiful sculpts, I'm biased on the topic of DUNE itself, been a fan of the books since I was much younger, and the earlier Movie as well. I have Four wave sets confirmed , ordered since 5 months ago, when I first was made aware of the line by my rep. I'm keeping a set. And I'm glad to see the whole confusion on figures/ characters and BAF were cleared up. go Mcfarlane~

I saw the Baron and Jessica at Target. The Baron was nothing more that a curiosity since it is the lone 12" figure and thus of no interest to me. I don't really need a Floating Fat Man.
Jessica looked just as bad in person as she does in the pictures. It really looks nothing like Jessica to me. She is supposed to have a regal air about her but her stillsuit look tends to always be the least interesting of her looks. I wish the stillsuits on the figures didn't look so two-tone. The stillsuits don't look to be two-tone in the trailer or photos. Even for Paul and Leto when they are wearing the new stillsuits for the inspection tour. I've only see one photo of Gurney where his stillsuit looks like it may be two-tone. I also wish they would have given Paul, Duncan and Stilgar the robe/cape since that seems like it is a standard part of the stillsuits in this movie. Especially for Duncan. He just looks wrong without it based on his snippets from the trailer and photos. |
