Sorry for the long write up. Wound up being way more wordy than I expected.

Man, that Shatner head sculpt is so good.

Best Shatner sculpt I've ever seen by far.
Both of these figures are great, but are ultimately ruined by poor digital face printing. Every figure I've seen at retail has crooked/off-centered eyes, mis-aligned lips, and overall fuzzy applications. If I could find a decent one I'd love to buy both. |

For the most part these are pretty good, price point and everything. What's really throwing me is the two vertical lines on the chest of Picard's uniform, I do not ever remember the Starfleet Uniforms from any season of TNG having those lines. Weird nitpick I know.
I hope they do figures from the original movies. Mezco One 12 has me set on a few original series figures, there aren't too many TNG characters I'd want, but beyond Diamond Selects offerings, it's been freakin ages since anyones made figures from the movies. My favorite uniforms are the movie ones. Last edited by Alucard1138; 09-25-2018 at 12:50 PM.. |

I bought a Kirk but am waiting for replacement as there were several black and white dots on his face. I was just wondering why his communicator was painted silver? Shouldn't it be golden?

I’m pretty happy with both...these are easily the best new McFarlane 7” figures yet. Definitely need a Spock to follow these up.

I’m not sure if they were always present, but they were at least some of the time: Jean-Luc Picard | Movie Morgue Wiki | FANDOM powered by Wikia. A lot more subtle though.
Checking... Yep. These were the "transitional" uniforms mentioned here: Starfleet uniform (2350s-2370s | Memory Alpha | FANDOM powered by Wikia) Seems they were already replaced by the "clean" front by the episode "The Price" (S3, ep8), which makes this a weird choice for McFarlane toys. OTOH, given the weak headsculpt and issues with digital faces, maybe they'll have the issues fixed for a more "classic" S4-7 Picard. |

Are these figures brittle? After my personal Walking Dead figure crisis (broken limbs and accessories out of the package), I vowed never to buy brittle plastic again. But I really like that Kirk, and yeah, if they do figures of characters from the Second Movie Era (burgundy uniforms), I'll probably collect most if not all of them -- just no brittle plastic, please!

I'm still disappointed that Mezco stopped their Star Trek line, although I will say the face sculpt on Kirk is 1,000 times better than theirs.

When figures look this good at $20, I start wondering why certain others cost $60 or more.

I haven't actually seen these in stores yet either but I also haven't actively been looking since I just ordered mine from Amazon. I'd imagine Target, Walgreens, and Gamestop would be the stores to check since I've seen all of the other latest McFarlane stuff at those stores. Maybe Go!Calendar stores too, I don't have any local ones to check but the few I've been to were well stocked on what was new at the time.

Kirk definitely came out better than Picard (although the head on Kirk may be a little too small proportionally), but Picard's main issue for me are the eyebrows, which are too dark, and the jawline and chin.
I think what made the previous toy lines in this larger format more or less successful was that they were all pretty big when it came to the number of characters, so McFarlane needs to crank up the character volume for this line, even though this figure line is effectively about shows that are 30 years old or 60 years old, so it's not quite something that people are stampeding toward in stores. |
